Since WWII, what cue sport invention has mattered most?

Accu-Stats has provided some meaningful, demonstrable statistics that are of value to many players. Example - demonstrating a pro tournament winner usually is two feet or less from their next ball with the cue ball during play.

Another magnificent item is the CueTrack. I proudly endorse this product. Please read my full review. And then tell the CueTrack team Matt Sherman sent you!

the most important invention for improving a pool players game since ww2?

heated billiard tables!

Very Funny!

But according to the internet: "The first use of electric heating was for an 18.2 balkline tournament held in December 1927 between Welker Cochran and Jacob Schaefer, Jr."

After WWI but clearly before WWII, --> Please take Pangit's questions more seriously!

I think the improved table conditions (faster cloth, rails, etc.) and air conditioning have made the game drastically different than it was 50 or more years ago.

If today's players had to play under the same conditions that were the "norm" in that era, we may see a dramatic difference in their style and playing abilities.

I t has changed the game drasticly. I f we go just back to the early and mid 70's, it was much more entertaining. The stroke and the Heart wee the true measure of a player in those days.
The two shot shoot out was far more challenging and made for incredibly fun, creative pool.Watching players kicking out of trouble and returning safties is about as much fun as watching Secratariat eating oats. With the push, players were shooting and either making or missing, not poking and hoping. But, It is what it is and that has taken it's place.
One invention I feel hurt the game is the bar table. Alternating break on the bar table is the most boring thing to ever happen to pool.
Jump Cues?? Let's start a big bon fire.

Definately the Internet. Because ayone can ask so many questions to strangers and not get their ass kicked for being a stupid F-ing idiot to someones face.

Measureman! Yes, the quality in glues available today have made a huge difference in construction and repairing.
Epoxy, wood glue, Gorilla glue, CA. All have their special place and purpose.
Good catch.

The balls and the cloth have improved quite a bit over the decades. It is probable that advances in manufacturing machinery and technology have made other equipment more consistent as well.

I am not sure when simonis was invented but it's adaption over the last 20 years ranks number 1 on my list..... I grew up on Charles House and I learned to alter attack angles to make the ball match what was in my head..

The power strokes of the 80s and 90s became irrelevant because of the cloth change.... Today's pros can never let heir strokes out for an entire tourney and make the finals..... Before the change to simonis you had to have more than just one stroke...

Phenolic pool balls!

Weren't balls made out of clay in the '40's and 50's? I've heard stories about balls literally breaking in halves/ pieces.

Would like to see pictures, if anyone has some- and to hear about how they played- did humidity change them much?

I learned how to play way back with clay balls and slow cloth. The main game back then was straight pool. You had to pound the cue ball on break shots to get the balls to spread. Every good straight pool player back than knew the force follow stroke to power the cue ball thru the rack.
Fast cloth has changed the game so that a powerful stroke is not as important as it once was.I never saw any balls break in half.
Humidity did not affect the balls as I remember but it made the bed of the table much slower and the angles that the cue ball took off the rails changed. It was miserable to play in the summer in a non air conditioned room.

Phenolic pool balls!

This! Consistent ball sets from place to place has created a level playing field.

Also, as others have said; the internet. Players now have access to so much instructional videos, match videos, and can keep up to date on the latest news/gimmicks.
