Going back to Dave_M's question, if I'm wrong and it's not CNC then how are the patterns formed? I'm looking to be educated like many on the forum. You can decline to disclose and call it your trade secret or just correct me. If you don't like to discuss these things and just want people to go woo and ah then don't post in a public forum.

Thanks for answering my question, Jive. I was hoping Roger would answer, but that kind of went downhill. While I do believe that Volturi cases are attractive, with Rogers attitude, I will never order anything from him in the future.
Roger uses top quality leather!
As for how he tools his pockets I don't see where it is really important I feel it being leather is more important! I do know mine are tooled and I have a few!
Pete Tascarella was asked at SBE how do you get your linen wrap to feel like that and he would not answer as it is his edge I feel Roger does not have to answer JB followers questions as how he does what he does however we do know he does it a lot better than many others who design cases yet don't do any labor on them!

A JB follower? No. I sold my JB Cases. I carry and Instroke and am realizing that it's not great quality. When you sell a Chevy, you go look at Ford. I figured I would look into Volturi, but no longer.
I asked about the tooling, because it does not look like tooling of any kind that I have seen before. I never asked about leather or cardboard in cases. You brought it up, because you hate John. I never onced mentioned John, until now.
Roger doesn't have to answer my questions, but he could have simply said it's a trade secret.

Nice post.
He uses a laser to "draw" the design on the case and the stamping is done with a backgrounding tool called a bargrounder. Its primarily used in Sheridan style floral tooling, but it can of course be used for designs as such. Its normal use is to create depth in a carving to make the flowers or what have you stand out. Heres a wallet I make using bargrounders to create some dimension. Notice the look of depth in the carving even though the leather is less than 1/16" thick.
