Smokey surprised me.

I just recieved an email from Smokey here on AZ.

I have had my battles with Smokey and I think he should recieve some sort of ban for the remarks he made in the "Who Deleted my Thread" thread.

That said, I try to always keep an open mind and be as honest as possible. In the spirit of that I wanted everyone to know what Smokey did.

He sent me one of the most well written heartfelt emails I have ever recieved. He was very polite and expressed his sentiments very clearly and calmly. I appreciate this and applaud him for it.

The thing that really blew me away is that he said he really likes what we do at TAR and in order to show his support. He donated $300 to help with whatever we needed.

We have recieved many donations and we are greatful for everyone and appreciate all that everyone sends no matter the denomination. We normally do not talk about what people send. I felt this occasion needed to be mentioned.

I still feel Smokey should recieve some sort of censure for the remarks he made. I just wanted everyone to know that he also made a hell of an effort to at least with us show the other side of what I now believe is a complex guy.

Thanks for your support Smokey. I hope in the future you can come back and we can all get along without the bad blood.

I think he is probably a good dude that is just a little "off" in the noggin.

I believe he really needs anger management and maybe needs some medication. He doesn't seem able to control certain urges.

i really dont know what happened here , im not on here reading these threads very often, so with ignorance toward what has been said, i meet smokey in vegas a few months ago. he purchased 2 of our cues. he is a straight forward, no punches held kind of a guy. he speaks his mind; and right or wrong he is a very kind person. we just spoke for about an hour thursday night and he had nothing ill to say about this situation.i called him to tell him how proud , as a pool player, i was of him for giving two cues away like he did.we should all be a little more like this guy.
so in closing , remember we are all human , and even though i willl never admit it, we all make mistakes LOL !!

I've spoken to Smokey before, and I too think he's a stand-up guy. His effort to reach out to you, and his generous donation are just two MORE demonstrations of his true character. Honestly, I think any "spunky" responses on his part might be the result of logging on and responding after a good late night at the local watering hole. I believe he's one of the good guys here, just like Justin.

Regardless i think he should be banned just temporarily,he has done this stuff before and maybe its a lesson learned. He does seem to have his heart in the right place but has a tendency to go on and on and let him mouth go to the wrong place.I think he means well but goes about it wrong but we all make mistakes and i am sure the ban is just for a few weeks or a month.

I have spoken to Smoky on the phone on a number of occasions over the last month. I also think he is a stand-up Guy, however, I also think he could relax a little bit, there is no need to lose your cool on a public forum, and I told him so this morning. I think he has just had a hard time dealing with some of the nonsense that occurs here. I think overall he has a good Heart and I think he is a caring person who given the honest need would give some one the shirt off his back. From our conversation this Afternoon, Miles told me that he has been Banned for good. He completely understands what he did was wrong, and I am certain to some extent he is sorry for it, because his actions do not reflect who Smokey (Miles) really is.

Have a great night!!!!!

Agree or not, Smoky does speak his mind and doesn't hold anything back. He may have gone a little (or a lot) overboard, but he knew what was coming, and pretty much went all out in his thoughts. Like others have mentioned, Smoky did have a big heart and seemed to mean well. I am not saying I agree or disagree with his statements, but I do wish him all the best and hopefully he can control his emotions a little better in the future. I have interacted with him a little, and it seems like he could have been a positive member on here. Too bad it went down like this.

That's about where it is w/ me. I think there is a bit of a learning curve to forums, some learn, some never do though.

He went nuts on us and I support his banning, best to nip it in the bud, rather than let it go again...I'd think he's an OK dude tho, if I cared to think (about it).

Well, kudos to Smokey for being a good guy and all. It seems like he's a generous person. And, I agree that all of us "go off" from time to time, but it's just about inexcusable to do that in a written forum.

In face-to-face conversations (or confrontations), there's no SEND button. Once words leave your mouth they are out there and there's no taking them back.

In emails or posting, you can vent and type whatever you like, and before you hit send, you get a 2nd chance to reconsider. It takes at least a few seconds to type a short sentence. That's really plenty of time to cool off and think.

How different would our world be if we had a "take back" button for verbal interaction?

Anyone who posts a message that is abusive, threatening, mean or otherwise outside of their normal character has intentionally ignored a very large chance to calm down and let reason prevail.

IMNSHO (In My Not-So-Humble Opinion) :D

I just want to say one thing about Smokey. I don't know the man and doubt whether we have ever met. But I don't appreciate the insults, profanity and threats leveled at me. I never said anything bad about him or responded in any way. Yet it went on and on for several posts.

I wonder how any of you would feel if the threats were made against you. I for one, didn't like it one bit. I will be going back to Vegas for tournaments later this year, and I noticed that he lives over there. Maybe he will come up to me and apologize and maybe he will still have a chip on his shoulder. I really don't know, but I don't have any bodyguards, just me.

I have met people like Smokey before, one minute your friend and the next a bitter enemy. There is nothing I said or did that deserved the replies I got from him. No one else attacked me for stating my opinion about Fatboy, just him. I just hope he controls his emotions a little better in person then he did on here. That remains to be seen.

As a railbird in all of this, it's obvious that forum posting is not Smokey's thing.

Jay, have you read all the posts Smokey wrote after the threats? He said he respects you and thinks you're a good guy. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I had no idea who Smokey was or if I have ever read any of his posts but after reading this one I think he's right on the money. I don't think name calling was called for but it's sounds like he got pretty upset. The very topic of poor people being taken advantage of can pull at the heartstrings of decent people and except for some unnecessary
name calling I think Smokey is probably a decent person. I read some of Fatboys posts or reply to posts where he talked about his business dealings and I immediately thought that there was some underhanded stuff going on. I guess we pick and choose who we think is right or wrong but Smokey got my attention and I'm going to write him in as an independent for President. Phil
