Fellow AZers,

Doug has made a trip to the Dr. It was NOT good news. He has been told that he will not likely be able to have the much needed surgery for his heart valve.:(

Smorg has been THE most respected poster here for a very long time! He has been a real trooper while battling this condition, making us laugh often while hurting so much himself.

There is a clinical study that, if successful and approved by the FDA, will allow people in Doug's condition to get their valves replaced without having to overcome major obstacles like losing 1/3 of their total weight.

Doug seems to be an excellent candidate to be accepted into this trial. I am starting a campaign to get Doug accepted. If anyone would like to send an e-mail to the administrator of the trial, I am including the link below. It shows how the procedure works and has a link to the clinical study.

I will be speaking to the clinical administrator today to see what we can do to get Doug considered!

****JoeyA is making sure Doug & Barbara get this info too!!

Thanks to everyone that can help!!

Sincerely,

Ray

Probably time to cease the e-mails, we got their attention! Although Doug has to meet the criteria, doctors are human too. Never hurts to encourage them to do what you want them to do.

I'd say this e-mail project is a success, now we have to get Doug's doctor moving. I think we have people working on that end already.

BT if I contact Jodi which I will, what exactly should I say to Jodi? Your post should get a great response. The Smorg is a big part of AZB an we should all pitch-in an do our part. This is a good thing an our entire membership should get envolved...................

Gods speed to Smorg, and am wishing him the best.

I would like to send an email on his behalf, but would hate to write anything that would hurt his chances of being accepted.

What would you recommend.

I don't know what the correct thing to write is. I will call her tomorrow and ask her what we can do.

I will be happy to forward a copy of the e-mail that I sent, to anyone, for ideas.

Thanks again!!

I'll wait to see what needs to be in the letter to Jodi until I write.

Thanks BigTruck.

Ray,

I'll do whatever I can to help Doug, but who, exactly, informed Doug that he would be a strong candidate for this procedure, or, more importantly, that this is the proper procedure for Doug?

I'm thinking the same. Keep us posted, Ray. I'll be more than happy to do what I can if it helps Doug.

Jim,

Read the clinical trial requirments and the original post again.

Doug "seems" to be a prime candidate for this. The study will have to conference with Doug's Doctors to verify qualification.

Thanks for looking into it.

Same here Ray - post the info on what we need to send and anything and everything else we can do for Doug - my prayers are with him - Jackson

Hoping all the best for you Smorg...I'm sure you'll come out of this smelling like a rose.

Thanks, sounds promising.

Just give us all an idea of what type of letter would best serve the purpose.

Please let me know what needs to be said.
What, exactly, is the goal of the email you're asking us to send?
Please let me know and I'll do it!.... assuming it's at least semi-legal and not fattening.

Thanks Ray for being involved and hopefully giving Smorg's AZBers a chance to make a difference for him!

Do let us know the direction our emails should take to help improve the odds.

Hang tough Smorg! You have hundreds of friends here that depend on your guidance and feed off your wit and wisdom!
