Van Boening I mean, I think I've seen 3 different photos of him on the Front Page, but there are Soooooooo many good new players, why not give em all a boost (along with the sport) with a great front page recognition, honoring their recent win in the next round. I mean this older Sylver Ochoa is a good example, he's hangin' whats he look like etc. , Mix it UP AZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !!!
Need more variety of pics.
I'm by NO means 'knock en' SVB, I know his mom...well.

Thats true I agree, but to play devils advocate the players must be participating in most events to garner the front page. Only Shane fits that bill currently...

I totally agree, currently he has done more in such a short time than anyone in recent history!!

I think he deserves the credit he is receiving, and very little is hype!!! This is kinda rare these days!!!!!!

Not my point; there are 'many' players doing exactly what he's doing and just as much, they are the players that are always forcing the SVB to push themselves and its "those" that I feel need the recognition too, for they force greatness out of the greatest, and they should be publicly noted for those times/moments when they break thru.

i have to disagree Island (btw, how the heck are you doing these days? staying warm?) - there are many great players coming up, but none are doing what SVB are at this time. as a second note, it is hard to put pictures up of certain players if the tour directors don't provide photos of their guys or if good pictures are not available of the individual on hand.

Who is this Island?

He did very well at the DCC, He is younger than SVB and is relatively unknown. Hard to entice the reader with an unknown face. But this kid plays jam up on the pool table and in life.

So you are wanting more recognition for those who challange the great players and force them to use every bit of talent they have and one of those who push the winners to play their best would be you... so.. what you are really saying is that you want more recognition. Or am I missing something?

You might deserve more from the world but the truth is that those who come in second are not very well remembered. That's life. There are a lot of very bitter second place finishers in the world.

I already had my day in the sun, but this pic that Renard just posted is GREAT..it's what I'm talking about, these are the guys knockin' on the door and change is obviously in the air, fresh faces are nice too see. Archers game is on the backside, who's fillin' in besides SVB, that's all, no Knock just want to see more pics, I know 9blvr about the lack of 'file photos' but.. there are a few digital cams out there, RENARD proved that.

Thank you Island, I understand where your heart is and it's not wrong at all to want that. I just don't see that kind of change happening. Although I would like to articles on the new up and comers of the game with pictures.

Got the picture?

I hear what you are saying too, but until some of these other players step up and do some of the things SVB has accomplished this year, they just aren't at that level yet. We're talking about a young American player who finished 2nd at the Enjoypool.com Championships, won the World 10 Ball Championships, won the US Open, won the Reno Open, captured the Louie Roberts A/E Award at the DCC, plus won two $10,000 challenge matches against Champions! That is an incredible run by any player, let alone a young player that a year ago many on this forum had never even heard of. If these other young players are the real deal, they will get the attention and the exposure once they start winning major tournaments.

I hear what you are saying, we have seen a lot of SVB on the front page of every billiard publication, however, until some of these other players step up and do some of the things SVB has done in the last year, they don't deserve the exposure that he is getting. We're talking about an American player who finished 2nd at the Enjoypool.com Championships, won the World 10 ball Championships, won the US Open, Won the REno Open, won the Louie Roberts A/E award at the DCC, plus defeated two champions in $10,000 challenge matches. None of these other young up and coming players have done anything close to this.

Shane deserves all the recognition he's getting right now. He set the pool world on fire in the last year, and is a class act to boot. There are other good players coming up, John Morra comes to mind, but until they do something big, they will not be getting this kind of recognition. And that's the way it should be.

By the way, don't be so quick to write Johnny Archer off. He isn't through by any means. IMO he is the best man to topple Shane from his lofty perch at the moment, at least in this country. Johnny has been preoccupied with other matters for most of the last year, but look out for him this year. He will win again and more than once. This is one Hall Of Famer who isn't done winning yet. That's my prediction for 2008.

well Island, you will be glad to know that Shane will not be taking home the GSBT championship title as he was knocked out of the race this morning by Jonathan Hennessee. he did, however, win the ring game last night.:p

There is a correlation there...

Well said Jay, I also agree that SVB will be on the front pages as long as he keeps winning and not even JA or RM will get the front page if they come second and so why should some new guy doing well get the front? When Tiger wins the Masters the front page does not show Vejay or Phil. I do agree they need more exposure but its hard to replace a winner withwho comes second.

i think they were done before 4 am and then didn't start up again until 12:30 ish. there was some time to rest in there. i assume that is what you meant.

"I'm by NO means 'knock en' SVB", I know his mom...well.
Then why refer to him in a derogatory manner???
