Someone please help me understand trying to sell a cue online without pics!

Maybe it's because you are 35 years old, but I am afraid you are quite
uninformed. Plenty of people don't have camera phones. Granted as
a percentage it is pretty small.

I just spent half an hour on the phone with my ex-mother-in-law.
A sweet lady, who, tho her phone probably does have a camera, she
would not know how to use it, and there is zero chance she could upload
pix to a forum. She couldn't send a text if her life depended on it.

Now what if her husband had bought a Rambow in 1963 - would you really
want to disqualify that cue from consideration?

Dale

With all due respect that is a really bad example. How in gods name will a old lady who can't send a text go online to this website and post something with the intent to sell?!?

Seriously, I am not saying that should disqualify her from selling the cue. Something like CL is perfect if you can't find a way to take a picture.

special discount on any John Barton cue he has on him until we are through playing one pocket

free shipping good deals
no pics
he is here and the cases are new in box

I just knew you would knock the example - but like they teach you in
9th grade English class - it was a CONCRETE example kindly provided
to illustrate an abstract point that you were clearly not capable of
grasping yourself.

There was no doubt that if I had meerly stated something like:
"There are many valid reasons for not posting pics." you wouldn't
have understood - as you already didn't - as you still don't.

Maybe you could accept it on faith...

Just for a bit of clarification - if I were interested in buying a specific cue,
I would strongly prefer to see pics.
But as I cleverly alluded to in my first post in this thread concerning the OP,
why does he come onto the forum to whine about the fact that everybody
doesn't do things the way he wants them done?

He doesn't want an answer to his "question", so please stop feeding the troll.

I would like an answer to my original question. However, the fact is that after all of these posts on the topic, I've yet to see a decent answer. In my opinion, there isn't one available. Keep trying if you wish though.

How about....'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'? You have found a sales formula that has proven successful in the past, so why change a thing, if it's still working? Besides, you get to talk to some pretty interesting folks this way. :)

I think it is silly not to post pictures.

I enjoy the nuthuggers that support it, but frankly, they are tiring for me.

Post pictures or don't, frankly, you look stupid if you don't and it is a waste of time.

No wonder everyone on Jimbo Army makes fun of the posters here.

Jeez.

After seeing the Schon cues commissioned with rounded points, and I knew the reason why nobody wanted to post pictures either..

Sad, really sad.

Well. I was at Dean's house enjoying one pocket on his gorgeous antique Brunswick and he had the idea to post a thread about calling him for a deal on cases. In the space of an hour I sold two cases and before the afternoon was out I sold five. I also have two others that are going to sell tomorrow from Dean's ad.

To me that is super strong.

Another thing is that I enjoyed each conversation. To me its nice to have actual conversations and to describe my work.

Lastly, if you had any clue how deep Dean's cue knowledge goes the very last thing you would do is call him silly. By deep I mean all the way back to Balabuska deep. I mean being the guy who kept John Wright in business deep.

Dean showed me a cue that most here would give a but to own. However if it were shown in pictures the this forum would rip it to shreds over a few things that are a bit off. Rather than open the cuemakee up to that level of criticism when most Cuemakers won't even attempt how this one is done....Dean would rather explain it to an appreciative buyer with a full satisfaction guarantee and let them experience it without interference.

No what I said was not posting pictures of anything you are selling is silly.

I have done business with Dean.

John you are silly if you are saying Dean kept John Wright in business. Come on, you know better than that.

If you think it is such a great sales technique you do it in your business. Don't talk the talk if you wont walk the walk. Otherwise you aren't just silly.

Its silly. Admit it and move on.

What is it with people trying to sell cues in the "Wanted/For Sale" section without pics? Are there some cues that are just too nice to post pictures of? Maybe it's just me, but I don't get it.

I guess the seller has the opportunity to really sell his cue to someone when he gets them on the phone or something. I guess it is like a used-car salesman when he gets someone on the lot. Much easier to pressure someone that way. Maybe I'll try it sometime.

These days very few people want to buy a "pig in a poke." I know for certain I don't and never have. I found early on that not only did I need photos to sell cues, I needed really good photos--and cues are sometimes not easy to photograph. In addition, lots of people, myself included, want details about the cue like butt weight, shafts weights, balance point, etc. Even though I am not a fan of no photo internet sales, I do respect that a seller has a right to market however they choose to and bear the results good or not.

If I am buying a standardized item like a new pair of Ecco Seawalker shoes size 43 in black, I really don't need a photo. The final price delivered to my door would be my main concern. My 3 cents.

Ken,

We might. Karen and I were quite impressed by Dean's style. Taking pictures is a pain, posting them is a pain.
I have gone the picture route taking more than everyone else.

I sold five cases in one day just talking to folks rather than posting pictures and passively waiting for a buyer. The deals were done in five minutes on the phone without a bunch of emails back and forth.

If you ask me it isn't silly at all if you're doing that kind of business without pictures.

Troll? I am sharing my opinion on this subject. Isn't that the whole point of the forums? Go ahead and sell cues without pics. I really don't care. I can say that I am about 99% certain it won't be me buying it though.

In regards to your example, yes I did knock it. Why? Because it makes no sense. Old ladies that cant text aren't going to try and sell on this site. I have said, multiple times, I really don't care that people sell without pictures And yes I understand your point. I just don't agree with it. No need to get rude about it.

Well from my perspective it was a give me money and I will send you something worth more. With a money back guarantee. So was there really any risk. For me, that transaction was better than the MAKE ME AN OFFER listings.

Dean's last transaction involved 3 people, Dean and two buyers. All 3 were thrilled with the transaction. Everyone who actually participated in the transaction was pleased. Only those that didn't participate found it silly, or somehow wrong.

Is there a pattern here?

Imagine what we have come to.....a forum that sells high ticket items and people are saying sellers don't have to post pictures.

Really?

:frown:

What good would pictures do you? You are not a buyer anyway. So what if I a person wants to handicap his sales (according to some) with no pictures?

Guess then he only has reputation to go on and if you have none then for SURE no sale.

Imagine what we have come to - anonymous knockers like you can flourish on this forum.

Since you want pics how about providing your real name with a picture of your driver's license?

I have $20 that says you are a previously banned member.

What's your US Itinerary John?

What's your US Itinerary John?

No set itinerary except not west of OKC until after SBE. Right now I am staying close to here while we build a lot of inventory for the cross country road trip.

Will head west in spring.

Sounds like an itinerary to me.
