First of all. let me just say the forums on this website is awesome.

A little about myself.

My log in name, Marie's Husband! I have that name because my wife is always being greeted as "so your Paul's Wife" every time we are in a pool establishment and she always gives me a hard time about it. I figured that she would enjoy the log in name so that is why its what it is.

I am in the Navy and have been stationed for the past 18 years at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station (2 hours north of Seattle). Great location for the outdoorsy type person, but as for pool, the closest 9 foot table is an hour and a half away so nothing but 4X8 bar boxes to play on.

As for what type of games I like, 9 ball would be first, one pocket, then 8 ball. What is my speed? "Inconsistant" would be the best way to describe it. I'm constantly on the ship (in 2007, gone for 6 months", in 2008 gone for 9 months), so too much time away to be able keep up with my game. So to give you an actual speed that I think everyone can compare me with, in October 2008 I was lucky enough to go to Norfolk Virginia for a week in which as soon as I was off work I would go to Q-Masters and they rated me the same as Chris Furtrell "A++" for there Saturday tournament and I actually came in third (not too bad since it was the first time in well over a year playing on a 9 foot table, let alone a Diamond). So is that an accurate rating? I don't know because I have never been rated before that occasion.

Type of cue? I have been playing with a Paul Allers custom cue for about five years now. Before that it was a Joss, had it stolen out of my car one night and showed up to tournament without a cue, so Paul Allers(the great guy that he is) gave me one of his to keep and I have been beating balls with it ever since. I would have to thank the person who stole my Joss because I have never been so happy with a cue before.

One last thing, I have been an AZ forum reader since the beginning of 2008, but seeing how the ship's internet will not allow posting I was not able to become a member.

Thank You AZ'ers for keeping the pool knowledge flowing.

Ditto the welcome as well, brother.

How often to you get off the island? The reason I ask is... I'm in Marysville, right next to the freeway directly across from the Tulalip Casino and the Wally World and Home Depot complex... and I've got a 9-foot Diamond Pro Am in my garage.

Perhaps we can connect sometime :thumbup2: and hit some balls together.

Welcome!

Welcome and thanks for your service!

Hu

Cigardave,

Thank you for your invitation, Unfortunately I will be leaving for 30 days on Monday and until after October I will be home for about for a total of 4 weeks. I really enjoy pool, but If I was to go out to play pool from now until October, I would have some divorce paperwork waiting on me when I got home. LOL! After October I might have to take you up on that.

Since you live so close, are you coming up to the 4 man tournament on the 21st at the American Legion? I heard they already have 20 teams so it should be a good one?

Welcome. My father in law has told me Whidbey is a beautiful place. He was at the navy yard in Bremerton in the 50's. Enjoy your time home.

Welcome aboard, Marie's Husband!

I don't suppose you'll need any clues how to get around the place, since you've been hanging around in the shadows for so long.

We've got a son in the Navy.... other side of the country from you. He just got home from his last trip in December and is about to be deployed, again... unless they change something on me.

Anyway, hi and welcome! And, tell Paul's Wife hi, too. :wave3: :wave2: :welcome: :wave3:

Shipmate, post a picture of your cue in the gallery.

Poolplayer2093,

I do not have a picture of my Paul Allers cue, but the funny thing is that there is a picture of it in another post (listed below). Its the very first cue in the first picture, I am assuming that the picture was taken back in 2004 time frame because that is when I got the cue from him. I think the link below will work, if not, then just search Allers and there is a post from ridewiththewind that has some pics of his cues. I will put mine in the gallery when I get back from the boat.

BTW, nice cue!

Welcome aboard Marie's Husband and a big Thank You for all your service!! - also an invite for Paul's Wife to join us on AZ - I know we can provide her with some great informative and funny posts (and off the wall!!) for some distraction when you are at sea - I'm sure there are times when she needs to let off a little steam and this is definitely the place to do it - am proud to say we have a great support system here when needed - Jackson:welcome:

poolplayer2093 - I am with a squadron up here on Whidbey Island that deploys on the Nimitz out of San Diego.

jackson- I will talk to the wife and see what she thinks, hopefully she will become a member, but I do know that she is more of a facebook/myspace type of person.

LOL - there are fewer "Jody"'s here than either of those places...

Welcome.

I would have to agree with you on that 1pRoscoe, but I did meet my wife 17 years ago and our first conversation was about pool and I figure pool is what secured the deal of us first getting together. I guess she thinks that talking about pool was sexy so if I introduce her to this site, she will leave me in a week because she already heard all my pool stories. LOL
