****stolen 1953 balabuska**** dallas, tx.

The same cue is pictured in the Blue Book of Pool Cues...third edition page 35, pointing at the 7 ball. Page 35 shows several examples of Balabushka Cues. It's also on page 141 level 3 cue

it is possible my friend is misremember the details of this cue.

If it's a 200 Adam, I still want to help him find it. there is no benefit to him to misrepresent what his cue is intentionally, when it was stolen.

So many issues, so little time....

1. George didn't make cues in 1953
2. Clear coat finish - 1953? Should be a rubbed oil finish
3. Stained birdseye forearm? Hmm.....never seen one on a real Bushka before.

It's a GB-2. Case closed.

I agree it is a GB-2, sometimes I have seen them without the signature on it. If you want to get him his cue back I would look for a cheap GB-2 somewhere.

making lemonade from this lemon

Txstang, you are a trusted member here along with LonestarJim, both you boys know this gentleman, Gene, who I fully believe from this thread is a great guy, an old veteran, who got his cue stolen.

I haven't looked but can we get a nice GB-2 replacement cue for him; are these still avail new or maybe a real nice used one?

I'll donate $20 to start and let's get a few others to kick in what they can and we should be able to make this a nice holiday charity to get Gene back on track.

Anyone else on board?

best,
brian kc

...hell I was at the Billiard Den just last week myself. There was a waitress, a couple of guys at the bar way around the corner from the main tables, two older guys playing each other, and me and an other guy practicing on different tables. It was afternoon.

The first time I went to the restroom I took my cue and case like I always do. The second time I didn't take the trouble to re-case the cue and take it into the restroom, I just left it at the pool table.

It was not stolen, but maybe I just got lucky.

I was displeased to see there were no paper towel dispensers in the restroom, just one of those wall-mounted hair dryers. I doubt the male staff including the cook like to endure two or three noisy hot-air blizzards to dry their hands. More likely they wipe their hands on their trousers, or on some grubby kitchen towel instead...

I've seldom seen anyone staffing the station at the front door. The bar and wait stations are around a corner well out of sight of the front door, and the only person seeing the back door would be at a back wall or heading near the restrooms or using it to leave the back way.

This is not the first time I have heard of a cue stolen from the Billiard Den. Customers beware. None of the doors are monitored or secured in any way shape or form.

My cue has been in every mens room of every pool hall I have been in. I don't take the case, just the cue. I have little doubt the cue would have been stolen by now if I had not done that.

i dont give shit about any of that. just help us find the cue please. thanks have a nice day. You're either calling me a liar or my friend. You would be wrong in both cases

no embellishments at all to the story.

I don't think being wrong is being called a liar. If you or him knew that the cue was not a real Balabushka that would be lying. Just thinking it is one just makes it being wrong or misinformed.

If I sold you a $200 cue for $1,000 you'd be telling everyone that you had a $1,000 cue. Does not make you a liar if someone said "sorry, that cue is $200 you got robbed".

I'll donate $50.

I'll donate $20, money order or check, just no paypall. So whoever steps forward to coordinate this please pm me. It is possible that Hawleys, usually an internet retailer but they do maintain a small storefront, and only a couple of miles from Billiard Den, has this exact cue in stock, which could be delivered without delay.

I think thieves are rotten human beings, Especially cue thieves, and the Wall Street bankster type thieves.

However, I might lighten up on a thief, if, on his way home from his second job, had to steal a loaf of bread to feed his hungry children.

I would like this to happen for this nice old gentleman.

The cue appears to be in the approx $540 range, however, from what I have seen.

Our pledges thus far, (you, TATE and myself total just $90.

We're a ways off unless we can get some more interest.

A nice used one would help.

****STOLEN 1957 BALABUSKA**** DALLAS, TX.
Please repost and share with everyone !!!

update/correction - just spoke with Gene. He says he bought in 1957, not 53

This cue was stolen from the Billiard Den last week. It belongs to Gene Burns. A lot of people in the pool family know him, he been around forever. Very nice older gentlemen , i think mid 80's , always wears his war veteran cap.

He bought this cue new and has owned it for over 50 years. The cue is all original and in perfect brand new condition. He hand waxed the cue since it was new.

As a friend and admirer of Gene, i am absolutely sick that someone took his cue. So lets pull to together pool family, and get this man his cue back !!!

Please share this with everyone and be on the look out for it.

IF no security cameras in the pool room check other business's in the area for security camera footage....Good luck on everything.....

who gives a flying F*** if it is a real Buska or not. You all are missing the point that a good man got his cue stolen and instead of offering help or condolences, all you ass holes are doing is giving him shit because its not a real Buska. I mean come on.

Does this mean you are kicking in $20 like the several of us working to replace his cue? Or did you "skip ahead" without reading?

FYI, I did some quick asking around and couldn't find any places here selling a GB2 (it's a discontinued line), but did find a shop selling a new GB3 (same as GB2 but with notched diamond MOP inlays) for $350US.
