SVB vs Orcollo Free Roll brought to you by OB Cues

I missed the freaking thing, had no idea it was going on and a busy night. It sounds like it was epic, I expected Dennis to be a beast at 8-ball and I already knew SVB was but the level it sounds like they played at is unreal.

I definately want to watch this and see if it was just a run of really good breaks opening up the packs nicely every time or if these guys were doing short side shape, breaking out clusters or breaking balls off of rails, and getting out constantly despite the occasional issue.

I do think 8-ball is THE game for alot of reasons but we DO have to get the tables and pockets to a point where the game plays properly tough for guys at this level of play, and it sounds like with the TAR table we are not there yet.

The tar table has 4 1/8" pockets. The table is plenty tough. It's just that 8 ball is much easier to run out compared to 10 ball. I would guess on a 9 footer with run out players offence is 95% of the game, with very few safeties.

I was impressed with the 10' Diamonds at Tunica, but the TAR Monster is table enough for anyone, including the top pros. What we saw the last two days was some epic pool by two inspired players. They both brought out the best in each other. It was like Nicklaus and Palmer at their peak! I heard that even in their practice rounds (when they were gambling) they both played great golf.

That's what we got to see, two of the all time greats fighting hard for pride as much as money. Dennis HATES to let anyone beat him! Believe me he forgot all about the money, he just wanted to win and beat Shane. Which he did playing some super pool, maybe the best we will see on this table. It may be a long while before we see pool of this caliber again. Don't expect every TAR match to have this kind of shooting. We may not see racks run like that for a long time. It takes the perfect combination of breaking and shooting to make it happen. That was freaky!

P.S. Dennis won the second set of Eight Ball 10-3 and then beat Shane playing One Pocket 4-3 for another five beans. He was getting 9-8, which is how they gamble at that game. A very small spot and one he won't have tomorrow.

Besides considering playing "take what you make", if you played alternate break, that would surely make the set a closer contest, and tighten the sphincter muscle more.

Just an idea.

Alternate break is great. People worry about packages not being possible but it is quite the opposite. You get guys like these two playing 10 games straight where neither guy blinks, running out every single one of their breaks and trading games from 0-0 to 5-5. The tension this builds is crazy because one single dry break, one single missed shot suddenly puts you "off of serve" where you then need to have your opponent slip up.

Getting down 4 or 5 games in a winners break format is never as much of a risk, you can always run racks to get back into it.

Both have benefits but TBH I love the alternate break tension where you NEED to perform on every one of your breaks/serves.

The BEST format to me is alternate break, win by 2. If things get tied late in the game you get huge tension from the sudden death aspect that "win by 2" creates, if you fail to break and run on your break then you give your opponent the chance to break and run a single rack for the set. It can go a little long at times but that time when the players are playing sudden death like that is the most exciting time in any sport, it is like the sudden death battles in tennis that become almost legendary at times.

I respect your opinion Celtic and I will respectfully disagree. I've seen countless hill-hill matches playing Races to Eleven with winner breaks over the years and there remains nothing more exciting in pool. I've seen crowded rooms, all on the edge of their seat in anticipation of the final game, just like what happened yesterday when Shame made that incredible comeback. And what a final game it was, who could have scripted more ups and downs into one game of Eight Ball? In a word, CLASSIC!

Can room owners show this for free like the last tar match up? If so, how do they?

Not on this one. That was kind of a one time deal to hopefully introduce new people to TAR. Hopefully we see a difference on this one because of it.

What I saw yesterday on the TAR ustream channel was awesome and exciting. I had some people around and they were impressed.

Why are people asking to reduce this excitement? Spectators should be favored because that is who funds these efforts.

Thanks TAR, Shane, and Dennis for putting on an incredible show. Some of the best pool ever played last night.

the best part was they were both fired up. i've never seen shane bang his cue all over the place before. dennis was really fired up after he basically lost the first set by scratching on the side to give shane ball in hand on the 8. immediately after that dennis ran an 8 pack.

Just want to remind people that CSI is also a major sponsor of TAR.

We need some love too! Thanks CSI

Not trying to steal thunder from OB Cues - we really appreciate their sponsorship.

Last night was epic caliber - and as you stated Justin, watching an 8 pack was just freaking incredible on that table (which you're right - it couldn't happen with alternate break). Making the table any tougher than the TAR's is just silly IMO and I suspect the vast majority of pros would be none too happy to play on it.

That was really a treat.

Thanks again TAR and OB Cues!

KK9 <-- off 200 miles to the beach where I'll have no internet to watch the battle royale :(

Justin:

Just had a thought. Ever think of setting up an affiliate program for TAR events? Maybe a system that provides unique URLs to hit the stream where you can track usage and provide "commissions" for referred business? Maybe if you provide room owners with their own affiliate TAR URL and kick a small % back (like 3-5%), they'll remind every person coming in and out of the room to not miss the TAR match.

It'd be like having a TAR employee in every major pool room in the U.S.

Donny is a PPV customer from waaaaay back. Probably one of the few and possibly the only guy who went from buying a PPV to playing in one.

Speaking of which, Mills and Duel, rack your own nine ball??? Would love to watch those to slug it out soft breaking.
