Swanee Update???

Still on the winner's side as of pretty late last night I think.

From what I saw yesterday, if anyone has a chance at beating the Lion (other than Abe), it is Mitch. I watched him absolutely destroy Walter Glass on the TV table. Don't think I saw him miss a shot until he was up 6-1. But it Alex can figure out his.break on these tables, I don't see anyone beating him. He was having trouble with it in the two matches of his that I watched.

As far as Abe goes he played a masterful match against Alex. He had the break working, he made some amazing kicks to get out of safeties that Alex put him in and leave him safe at the same rime, and he even put Alex in a safety so tight that all Alex could do was try to tie up some balls. I knew Abe had game, but wow, was it fun to watch in person. If Alex plays even a little off, he could have easily lost that match.

It was also great getting to meet Tate, Meezurgurl, dabarbr and anyone else from AZ that I may be forgetting. Everyone was incredibly nice. I had a blast. Thanks to dr2112 for getting some video of me playing. It was great to relive again this morning.

:(Alex just beat Tommie from the hill hill. Tommie had the winning shot on the nine after a thin sick cut on the eight, but the cue ended on the rail. Tommie missed an almost straight in shot on the nine from the long rail to the corner pocket and missed it by half a ball.

Tommie then rakes the nine and cue giving Alex the game and match.:(

I'm out with 25th through something money. Mitch Ellerman really has a big game. He was running through his matches then went hill-hiill with Fach Garcia. Fach played a beautiful match and had a kissed 9 ball hang within a hair of the falling in the pocket but it hung, and Mitch took the match. He was very impressive.

Anyway, time to relax.

Chris

Alex beat Max for the hotseat after Max reached the hill first up 6-4.

Mitch beat Tommie for 3rd, then beat Max 7-5 for 2nd.

Finals about to start between Alex and Mitch, one race to 11.

What a great tournament! I have to hand it to Mitch for fighting through tough match after tough match to even get to the finals. Not making excuses for him at the end, but he definitely was feeling the effects of playing straight for 2 days whereas Alex's 3+ hour break helped him tremendously.

I've seen Mitch play hundreds of times and never saw some of the flyers he blasted at in the finals.

Tops off to Alex though as he made those tiny 4" pockets look like buckets on run after run at the table.

Has anyone seen the results and payouts posted? So far on the CSI site clicking on the tournament still just takes you to the list of entries.

Final Write Up and Payouts

I am working on the press release with the payouts for this past week's Jay Swanson Memorial 9-Ball Tournament

:) It will be on the front page of AZB as well as is ususally covered by the major pool publications

Thanks Mark, you forgot 65th - Jay Helfert $0! ;)

One thing I'm confused about with the brackets. I'm sure it's an easy explanation and I'm just not getting it. :embarrassed2: You played down to 48 players on Saturday. To be in the money you had to be playing on Sunday. The last 64 players were in the money but only 48 were playing on Sunday. Assuming I have that right, how does that work?

Mark, thank you for another excellent event. Great talent showed up for this and we all seemed to have a good time. I know you worked your azz off during this tournament but you also looked like you were enjoying yourself.

Can you bring this show back next year? Will Eddie be OK with it? I certainly hope so. This is one event many people look forward to each year.

Anyhow Mark, be good and shoot 'em straight.

There were money matches late Saturday evening.

There were money matches late Saturday evening.

So, some people played (or had a bye) 5 matches on Saturday? That's the part I didn't know, I guess. I won my first two matches then lost the third. My fourth match (on the losers side) I lost and was out, but I thought win or lose I was done for the day. So I guess the guy that beat me had to play another match Saturday night after the one with me?

Mark- Many thanks again for putting this tournament together year after year! The event ran very smoothly. You, Sunny, and Bill did a great job of keeping everything moving along. Everytime I saw you at the chart table, there was always a smile or at least a smile wanting to come out. :) :D Thank you.

Btw, any chance of posting a pic of the poster signed by all of the participants. I hope all 192 signed.

All the Best,
Abe - i4pool
