has there been a TAR in the works other than Shane/Earl??? Am I missing something or are we just playing around?

I am announcing TAR 23 on the next podcast.

I understand how you missed it though. You were distracted by the shear goddamn awesomeness of this painting:

The IPT showed us enough. The greats rolled up impressive stretches. The amateurs and pretenders simply washed out the averages. The top players B&R in the 30's. Compare that to the stats of SVB vs Alex.

The IPT had B&R percentages that were ratios of break and runs vs total number of games won.

For example in the North American Championship Thorsten Hohmann won 206 games on his way to winning the title, of those 206 games 76 were B&R's.

Efren won 206 games in his World Open win, of those 206 games 70 of the wins were B&R's.

SVB had 11 B&R'S out of 24 wins in the North American Championship, 19 B&R's out of 64 wins in the World Open.

Alex had 54 B&R's in his 154 total wins in the World Open, 55 B&R's out of his 158 total wins in the North American Championship.

Ralf Souquet had 72/166 B&R/Wins ratio in the World Open, 77/198 in the North American.

Darren Appleton only had 38 B&R's out of his 163 wins in the North American.

The conclusion? Most of the "wins" in the IPT were NOT break and runs. The pros were not just up and breaking and running at will, the majoritty of the games saw both players get to the table.

Too easy? Nah, the IPT certainly did not show that. And it was being played on bigger pockets then I am talking about and not on the possible 10-foot tables coming out soon.

On a 9' table 8-ball at the top level favors the tight position players (14.1 players). 9 & 10 ball favors the best breakers and shot makers IMO. Johnnyt

PS: Just go to 15-ball rotation with the 15 ball the cheese.

I think 12 ball progressive rotation...

I think the way to go is 12 ball crown configuration rack, point based, progressive rotation is the way to go...

Things like crown racks just confuse the general public and the casual fans, and this sport needs them. You cannot muddy up the game with wierd racks and odd games and expect to get more people watching, the opposite is in fact what happens.

Single point per a ball rotation would be a tough game, just use the full 15 balls. The issue with the game is it's high difficulty with regards to offense combined with far easier safety play due to the extra balls. That imbalance would mean people take on alot of easy safeties over trying to make tough shots and the game would become boring to the fans. Another issue is it is STILL rotation pool, it is still not giving players alot of options, we don't get the "chess" aspects of pool that you see in 1-pocket, 8-ball, straight pool, and snooker because the players don't have any options on which ball they can shoot. It becomes solely a shooting game with not alot of strategy and that again becomes boring.

8-ball is THE most popular game in pool by a landslide, I mean the second most popular game is not even close. Almost all amature pool players play 8-ball in leagues, the general public playing in the bar? They are playing 8-ball. Everyone knows 8-ball, almost noone knows another game. Pool needs to embrace the game that is clearly the most popular game and that has been so for many decades and go with that for the pros. Find the equipment specs that make the game work, that give it a proper difficulty level, and see how it clicks with fans.

I know SVB won't be in it, but I'm putting my vote out there for a future TAR consisting of SVB vs Daz/Orcollo/Kirkwood in some bar box 8 ball.

that's why I said progressive rotation..

It doesn't have to be twelve ball, it can be 10 ball progressive rotation or 15 ball progressive rotation...

The key is the progressive aspect... You get a point per ball and an extra point for each successive ball run...

It encourages going for it, especially if you're down some points.

So if you make two balls in a row, you get 3 points... If you make 5 balls in a row you get 15 points...

You're rewarded for longer runs...

Gah, no bar box. That game gets ripped apart by the pros and all comes down to the break. If they do that people will just go "see, 8-ball is too easy" because they went and put the match on the wrong table. You need to put it on a larger table with tight pockets. The last time I watched SVB play bar box 8-ball it was very clear that the bar box is NOT the proper table for those guys to play on.

Raj Hundal posted on Facebook that he will be in action in Vegas in December...

If it is Raj Hundal I am going to bet his action would be even 10-ball vs Hatch. They are pretty closely matched. I cannot see Raj playing most other Americans.
