The ABP Association of Billiard Professionals 2012

funny shit.
id love to have some huge sponsor oneday and run some huge events.
because the first crew of clowns that would not be able to play are these guys. id bann all of the abp.

and dont think its not within reach

id love to be the guy to put them im thier place with thier foolish demands.

"ABP Rules"....

HAHAHHAHA!

I guess the ABP guys only wanna play in their backyard. The WPA sanctions the rules for international play; so, if the ABP doesn't agree to THEIR rules they 1) Won't play in WPA/BCA points events 2) Won't play in international world-championships

I mean, gimme a break. Reading these posts is so painful, it's like watching a deer die. Die already.

Another example of the ABP spreading their feathers and strutting like a peacock and putting zero thought into what they're doing. No forward-thinking strategy or strategy put forth to work with the powers that be (and that ain't them).

+ one.

Well, I will get flamed for this, but so be it. I am a real fan of pro pool. I truly enjoy watching the worlds best players at work. So I want the ABP to succeed.

However, they got off on the wrong foot with their very first action being a boycott threat. So it is my hope that the next time they raise their heads it will be to announce something positive. I want to see them fulfill their promises of doing things to help the game, the promoters, the sponsors, and the fans. If their next action is another exercise in "me, me, me" then I will give up and go back to watching golf.

And I find their claim to be an international group a bit of a stretch. In the nearly three years since they formed I have yet to see them say a peep about anything going on anywhere but in America. I think overseas promoters would tell them to take a hike. Let's see if they ever do anything outside of the USA.

Vagesil. The perfect sponsor.

It worked for Cartman.

I'm not sure why there is so much HATE on here! Sure, at first it's easy to think that the Pro's are asking for too much, or think they are overstepping their bounds here. And then there are 50 more threads popping up all asking "How can we grow our sport?".

Stop the bagging!

The ABP is nothing more than a start-up Union of Players trying to make a difference and grow the sport.

I can't think of any major sports organization we have today that didn't get tons of flack in the early years and people running around and telling them that it just wasn't possible.

Do I think the ABP is doing things perfectly? No, but who am I to judge. Let's give it a chance and try and support our sport!

Good Luck Fellas!

The problem with the ABP (not to be confused with the PBA) is the same problem there is with pool rooms in this country. Just because you can draw your ball doesn't mean you are qualified to run a pool room or in this case, create and then RUN an organization.

There may be some great guys within the ABP - but they definitely need some guidance (and guidance is not a strong enough word).

If the ABP is posturing to overthrow the WPA rules & formatting, it may be appropriate to appoint/elect (however they do it) board members that represent more international concerns. Sure Charlie plays for Team Korea (:)) and Mika & Thorsten are European by birth, every member of the board makes their home on US soil.

^^^^ This

We really shouldn't support them or give them a chance unless they get a leader with real business acumen. Otherwise, we're supporting them while they shoot themselves in the foot (which is what's historically happened with similar groups 100% of the time).

Without getting into the politics, I'd just like to know what the point of this "press release" was. Aside from informing us that the ABP is "now entering its second full year" there was nothing newsworthy in it as far as I could tell.

Exactly. Some unknown comes on here, makes a post that merely links to their "statement" and has a gmail account for responses? Nothing says serious business like gmail.

Saw, I'm picturing Charlie, as he's getting hauled off after all the fun and debauchery.. being asked, "Was it worth it, kid?" and, of course, his response is.. "Totally.."

If they want to see how to properly interact with the pool community, they need to take some lessons from Mark, Sunny and Holly.

I can't fault these guys for wanting to better their lot in life. If they can somehow find a way to market themselves and bring new sponsors and more money into the game, more power to them. I do think they will have to work with existing organizations like the WPA to implement whatever changes they have in mind. That is, if they are interested in the international marketplace and not just the U.S. market.

Professional pool has been orphaned by the industry and the BCA sold it down the river to the WPA... "World" in WPA means Europe and Asia... go read their mission statement.....

The BCA is now only concerned with the trade show and has no vision aside from using the trade show revenue to continue it's useless existence and pay it's small staff.

Someone has to take over the direction of professional pool and noone is stepping up to the plate.... In that regard I have no choice but to try and attempt to support the ABP and hope that they can get their act together...

The truth of the matter is that they have a small group to select from as far as leadership is concerned... Almost none of the group in question has any formal education in business and most real world experience they have is from running pool rooms or small cue/equipment ventures....

Their best bet would be to elect industry people to a board similar to the BCA... Except that there should be 2 player members on the board....

Once they have proper management in place they can then focus on membership and using it to drive a revenue model. TripleA or Diner's Club can be the model.. Player membership should be $100... Sponsor Membership $1000... Privileged membership $10-20 General membership -Free.... Room Owner/Operator -Free

General Members should get discounts on table rates.....

Room owner/operators should get discounts with their suppliers which are negotiated on their behalf....

Privileged members should get discounts on flights, hotels, food and beverage and equipment purchases....

Sponsor members should get access to marketing info on the other memberships

With solid membership and a working revenue stream the ABP would then be in a position to assist promoters in forming a professional tour.....

Currently the ABP has the appearance of a bunch of guys sitting around drinking a few cold ones and deciding to establish a new fraternal order of "insert your favorite animal here" and then trying to make people acknowledge it all the while wondering why no one seems very supportive.......

Pool needs an organization to step up... It might as well be the ABP but they need to find the right guidance... Here is to hoping they do....
