Watching the Castle Christmas Classic 9 Ball Tournament. I really wish "All" Tournaments would institute a dress code. Nothing fancy...but no Jeans, sneakers and T-Shirts. Casual pants, loafers and a collared shirt would be fine...and for heavens sake no playing with earphones hanging out of the players ears while they are playing. The above would help the image of pool and hopefully help to grow our sport. Sorry for my rant but it is my long time pet peeve!!!

I agree 100% Wedge. I have mentioned it before and will many more times.

I saw a Stream once, (actually more than once) where the players were wearing shorts, shirt tails hanging out and flip flops. I know that in many of the warmer states, even with Air Con, this is the most comfortable way to go but it looks shoddy.

When our Hall was open, we used to have the Champagne Cliff Thorburn Tourney once a year. Casual dress was mandatory as Cliff always showed up dressed smartly.

It doesn't take much more than a pair of Dockers and a 10 dollar golf shirt from Wally World.

X X X X Large tee un tucked, hat on backward. I just turn it off. $20 for a stay dry golf shirt at Kohls. Go figure.

Dress for sucess

You guys are so right I two got disgusted baggy shorts with tennis shoes , jeans with wrinled t-shirts the collective look with little exception looked liked guys coming from a constuction site ( no disrespect they dress like they are suppose to go work construction ) when you go swimming you dont wear a tux. Look at the women and all the European and Asian tournaments you could not even play dressed as the American players dress. People wonder why no sponsers ?? You kidding who wants to or would put their corporate image on something that dresses like this.

Imagine This

A young person wants to play pool because they are fascinated with the game and they want the support of their parents. So they ask their parents to take them to a Tournament.

Scenario 1: The players are dressed well wearing Dockers, casual loafers and shirts with collars. The players act professionally and the parents are impressed and support their child in their newly found passion for pool.

Scenario 2: The players are wearing jeans hanging below their ass or sweatpants, crappy sneakers, T-shirt and have earphones hanging out of their ears. The players act very unprofessional. The parents say if I ever see you playing this game you are grounded for life!

We need to get the younger generation involved in our sport and Scenaro 2 ain't gonna do it!

A dress code surely couldn't hurt.

They inforceded the dress code for all the bigger(8 ball- tournments in vegas. It could only help to show class for pool. Shave the beard ,dress up ,sounds great to me!! mark

You can sit around like old men complaining about the weather and yelling at kids to get off their lawn. Or you can do something about this in a constructive way. How about approaching a tournament director and offer to sponsor. Say, added cash bonus for the best dressed player or if the winning player adheres to an optional dress code. You need an incentive to get players to dress up, without turning away potential players from participating in the tournament.

Gosh, what a great idea. I like the way you think. That is brilliant. :)

We had a player in my area, Tommy Kay, who added monies to the season finale of the regional tour. I always admired him for doing that. I think at that time, it was called the Falcon Tour. In fact, we had several local business entities who donated funds to the tour to keep it running, and their business were not related to pool whatsoever.

while I agree that some of the players on this, and many other streams, look a bit ridiculous in their clothing choices, I personally don't think that the smaller regional tourneys should, for instance, ban jeans, nice tees, or tennis shoes.

Part of playing your best pool is being as comfortable as you can be and, for me, nothing beats jeans and a tee.

I will agree, however, that it's nice to see players dressed up at the more prestigious events.

So maybe the threshold can be, the tourneys predominantly with pros should have a dress code but maybe not the amateur events. Or at least a more relaxed version.

Like when me and my pals decide to play a sunday softball game, it's jeans and tees, no Yankees pinstripes for us amateurs.

I agree in principal.

My nit picking would be "loafers"...? Standing around all day in loafers would just about kill me. Sneakers are by far the most comfortable footwear for me (and I have to stand all day at work).

Still, the greater thought has merit.

I wonder what kind of turnout you would be getting though, were you to institute such a dress code.

I think that once you put an event on a stream for broad -- potentially worldwide -- consumption then consideration should be given to a dress code. It doesn't have to be onerous: no hats, no ripped or saggy jeans, shirts with collars, dark sneakers or leather shoes. Otherwise you are doing the sport and your event no favors.

Anyone know how this tournament finished? The stream isn't up today.
Ended at 4:15 this morning, they didn't want people having to travel in bad weather so they played until done

Dominguez beat Shaw in the finals, great match. He had Shaw something like 11 to 2, Shaw almost came back. I think the final score was something like 13 10. Watched it but a little foggy on the specifics.

I agree with the idea of better dress but I bet those guys were glad to have tennis shoes on after playing from 11 am to 4 am... Hard to fade that in leather dress shoes after 17 hours.

Quality of stream

Also have to mention that it was quite nice to watch a pool stream off and on for over 12 hours and never have it freeze up... Some buffering delays but not once did I have to quit and re-enter the stream

I wish I could say the same for some of the pay per view streams I watch.

Good job guys

I played in the tournament I wore a tshirt with a giant unicorn on it and basketball shorts. So, I very much disagree with this thread.

I'm not a pro, this isn't a pro tournament though there were about 5 pros that played in it. But it was a local tournament that most people played in for fun. If there was a dress code, I wouldn't have come.
