The Players Themselves Might Bring Down Bonus Ball

Ronnie Wiseman, a Canadian, is one of my dearest pool friends, so please don't take offense at the word "Canadian."

I made the distinction of "Canadian" because they are coming to the United States with this Bonus Ball and hurting American pool promoters who have been in this industry for decades. It just ain't fair.

So some of your best friends are Canadian? Well I guess that makes it ok for this Canadian to respond to a few of your comments.

I must have first saw Keith in the movie but didn’t know who he was or if he was just another actor playing the part of a pool player. In those days I didn’t play pool and didn’t know there were tournaments other than what I saw in that movie.

I developed an interest in playing pool some years after, joined and amateur league and became a fan. One day the sports network had a match that featured Jose Parica and Keith McCready. Suddenly I realized why a part of a whole generation of players, usually the better skilled ones, in the league had a funny little twirl after they stroked the ball. It came to me when I saw this match, they were Keith McCready fans.

I looked up the name and discovered the connection to the Color of Money along with many other accolades. If there had been a vehicle for pool players with talent and charisma to reach a broader audience in those days then Keith would have been one of the major stars. Unfortunately, as well documented, there were few opportunities for professional tours to develop and those that did come always seemed to lose their way and pool continued to struggle.

I was not initially a fan of Bonus Ball but decided to give it a chance. I like it. It will not stop me from travelling to some tournaments to watch live, I enjoy that so I will continue. It will not stop me from watching some of the great TAR matches, PPV streams and free streams from other tournaments that I happen to also enjoy. But, I am not the fan that will make or break BB and neither are many who use these forums.

While our support can help, to succeed BB must drag professional pool to a larger forum and attract a much larger audience. I hope they do because it may be a chance for so many that work so hard for so little to have an opportunity to get a real return. I sincerely hope that if they do they remember some of the “legends” that kept this sport alive.

Jerry

p.s.
I would love to see Ronnie play BB. Haven’t seen him on TV since that match where Johnny Archer sharked him.

I truly thought that winning the Master of the Table at the Southern Classic last year.....netted Justin Hall a free room and entry for life at that event. Just like they do at the DCC.

Correct me, if I'm wrong.

I've also seen JH interact with a backer, but he may not have one now. Or maybe he only has one occasionally. Not particularly my business, but just adding to something I saw earlier in the thread.

I can tell you this, I've met JH a couple of times now and he is a very soft-spoken, humble, nice guy. Or at least he was to me. Not sure what he's like around his friends or on "off-days".

But, I was quite pleasantly surprised at his demeanor.

P.S. He didn't want to sign my case after he won Banks. He didn't feel like he was worthy of giving out an autograph. But, after he plowed thru to win the 1P, I pretty much forced him to sign it. Lol. He seemed very sheepish and shy about it, but went ahead and did it for me anyway.

P.P.S. I love to watch the guy play. He's a monster. He's has the look that if he walked into a bowling alley, rec pool hall, or even a place where they just didn't know who he was.......guys would probably line up to bust him. And he would leave them absolutely penniless.
There were no free perks for him after he won at the southern and he is a quiet humble kid who just wants to play pool and succeed. Good post sir

Were it (BB) patterned after the UFC, I believe viewership would increase dramatically.

The MOST popular shows on TV center around VIOLENCE !!!

Justin Hall will receive free entries in this years Southern Classic bank, one pocket and 9 ball. This was determined many months ago. Sorry the message hasn't reached him. I know that Jay Helfert is trying to reach him. Maybe you can see him and give him the message. If there are any questions I can be reached at 812-989-6665. Justin really put on an amazing performance last year and deserves some added benefits. Greg/Diamond

Greenie for you Greg!!

Bb rage !

BB rage !!!!!

Oh no !!!!!

I Don't know if it is a good or bad thing. Time will tell, if it continues we will find out.

On another note,

Personally I don't think pool is a very good sport for a team concept.

I know you can argue this with the Mosconi Cup.

But that is a yearly showcased event between countries already having a rivalry in place.

I'm just saying when a player is at the table seeing it his way and somebody wants to tell them their way, it is gonna go bad imo.

Your thoughts ?

I never seen Venus jump up from the sideline and tell Sarina when to charge the net !

Might be a bad example but my point would be RHYTHM. Some players like to get into a rhythm to ultimately catch a gear !!!

Outside interference is only dragging down ones performance imo.

Correct. He's always been quiet and humble. I remember him playing in all the Florida Tour events when he was a smurf, at about age 12 to 14. He's seasoned we'll beyond his age, that's for sure.

THEY nothing. Larry is from Winterpeg, Manisnowba.

They rest of us Canucks hardly acknowledge the existence of that Province.

You guys can have it, along with Quebec.

Altho I agree with you whole heartedly on the is one Jam, one person is hardly an invasion of the USA.

After flip flopping on BB, this is the one thing that I have mentioned a couple of times that stuck in my throat and the main reason as to why I can't get behind BB at this time.

Well scotty or justin didn't know anything about it at the time that post was made. That is a stand up thing to do sir I am sure he will be grateful.

Do I get some jelly for mentioning it? Kidding!

I just hope to see Justin and as many pro's at the SCT as possible.

I really figured he knew about it. Winning Master of the Table at a Diamond event is a huge accomplishment and as such.....has it's rewards.

Kudos to Greg Sullivan for keeping an eye on the board.

Looking forward to drinkin a cold one with you in Tunica, Greg....

I agree. Exactly the way I feel about it and exactly how I felt the few times I played partners. Good post. Johnnyt

I can't believe Earl, of all people, is going to support Bonus Ball, a Canadian enterprise.

Curious, (you can reply via PM if you'd like, I am having a hard time keeping up)

Do you use a mobile phone for work purposes? What brand do you use?

Even the $900 per week after taxes doesn't leave one much to live off of -- and that's if you're single. You have expenses, rent, food, et cetera. What happens if your teeth hurt and you need IMMEDIATE dental care?

$1,000 a week at a regular job is $25 an hour.

Do you make more than $25 an hour? (I know a lot of people who are self imployed make decent money but also work crazy hours to do so)

If someone was a house pro and played the occasional pro tournament and maybe doubled their money from entry fees as winnings, do you think they would average $1,000 a week for a whole year? 26 weeks (half year)?

I like all the controversy and drama. Just like all other sports, you have rivalries and trash talking. Why is pool supposed to be any different? A lot of the traditionalists think pool should be played in a suit and tie, and when it's not your shot you have to remain absolutely motionless. To the heck with that. Each team should have 1 shark move allowed during the game. I'm just joking about the shark move.

You know what isn't fair? Repeatedly making xenophobic comments when country of origin
has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
The fact that BB is run by canadians is an irrelevant, meaningless piece of trivia.
It's like constantly pointing out that Larry Chiborak is white.

It's irrelevant and you keep injecting it just to help you win an internet argument.

You wanna argue the merits of bonus ball, then stop trying to transparently manipulate people
with patriotic sentiment. It's backfiring. It makes you look ignorant and pisses off AZ's international readers.
