The Riv again....

Well if the Riveria closes, it would leave a nice site for Steve Winn to build another place on the strip.

Wynn could of bought the FoutainBlue or whatever its called for a steal. He isnt dumb and passed. Now is not the time to be building multi-billion dollar casinos when properties all up and down the strip are struggling to keep the doors open.

That is correct, and we keep getting e-mails about CHEAP Rooms in Sin City, but will not go on any vacation this year. Times are tough!

i guess the fact that they jacked up the menu prices of everything at Kady's, the Chinese place, and every other food joint in the Riv didnt make up for the shortfall in casino revenue. they sure squeeze every dime out of us broke pool players everywhere else they can.

Its very simple. Since the APA is a cheap organization (read: it makes lots of money, but pays very little out), it obtains cheap space. Well, now the place that the APA has used for its cheap labor, et.al., is going down for the second count. Perhaps we'll get a better deal out of it all. At least I'm hoping.

Tim,

Expect the prices to go up not down. Whether the service will match the new prices is a good question. Questionable food and lodging equals no gamblers on the main floor. No gamblers means no profits. Self fullfilling prophecy in Vegas. I wish the Riv well. All the other potential host casinos are much further from my house.

I wish they would close the doors to the RIV, The place is old, it smells, the casino and the comps suck or lack of comps.... Pool can do much better in other venues.

Just try to find a place that will give league players the deals the Riv has given BCAPL, APA, VNEA, etc. over the years. If the Riv does go down, I expect Nationals in Vegas is over. (Hello, Tunica)

Steve Wynn is bleeding money every day, big time! He is dipping into his reserves just to keep the doors of Wynn and Encore open. It's a losing battle for him and I expect to see him declaring bankruptcy one day soon himself.

He does have a couple of winners still in the Bellagio and Wynn Macau. Do you ever hear anything about the Mirage anymore? It's like it's become.....well, a mirage. :sorry:

Really Jay - where do you get your info??

To Coco - Steve Wynn will not be moving down the strip in that direction, he will be moving back off the strip if he chooses to build another hotel(s). He owns all the land from the Encore/Wynn back to the Las Vega$ convention center. The only piece of property he didn't own was the Las Vega$ Chamber of Commerce building but he has bought that too.

Casinos opened up with table games in Frederick, MD recently, craps, poker, et cetera. They already had the slots and the horses.

I read with interest that a lot of the "regulars" from Atlantic City casinos are now going to smaller casinos that pay off comps. There is one the Poconos called Mount Airy that is getting a lot of positive write-ups with the poker community, a hop, skip, and a jump from AC.

Atlantic City has been deteriorating for years now, and Las Vegas may be experiencing the same thing. Of course, it doesn't help that the four worst-hit States in the Union in this economy bubble is California, Florida, Arizona, and, yes, Nevada. That is according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the housing industry association.

With casinos popping up all over the place now, paying better comps, AC and Vegas may have to come with a strategy to attract those money-spending gamblers.

JAM - they also opened a casino in Charleston WV (i think that is the city) - about 1 1/2 from Baltimore I believe. Close to Philly as well. The poker room has 39 tables and plans for expansion. I have two friends that have already moved there to go to work.

How does a casino go bankrupt? Reminds me of Alan King and the movie Casino.
