I know I certainly misunderstand [its purpose]. I mean, we pool fanatics go to a pool-related website stood up specifically for us -- for our special pool-related interests -- to talk about... non-pool?!? :shrug:

To only get positive responses is the same as a woman asking if a dress makes her look fat. It is not the dress it is your fat a$$ that makes you look fat. why are you asking if you may not like the answer. If someone is only looking for positive answers what is the purpose of posting?
I know that sometimes it gets out of hand and sometimes doesn't have anything to do with the initial questiion and when that happens I will usually ignor that thread. If there is no activity it will go away.

I hear ya, Drew. That's why when I tire of talking about pool, I don't go to a pool-related website to talk non-pool. I just go to another site targeted at that particular topic -- where I'll run into folks with specialized knowledge on that topic. Not pool nuts trying to beat each other over the head about Obamacare or what-not. In the very rare case I want to debate politics (I did say, very rare, right?), I'll go to a dedicated politics site -- where the debates are FORMIDABLE precisely because the site is targeted subject matter, and open to a much wider audience than pool nuts.
As an amateur astronomer, I go to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory site; not AZBilliards NPR. As a former professional bass guitarist, I would get my stuff from the Bass Player magazine site; not AZBilliards NPR. And on and on.

But ur exactly right its the reason I dont post on az anymore. rehashing the same stuff over and over isnt making me a better player. Less AZ and more table time is though.

Assuming you care for some of your friends here, you're IMO running and having a weak moment. Maybe that's your life MO, I'd hope not. Life's too short.

But I get the original posters frustration. Anonymity makes people go overboard when being critical on certain subjects. One of the pitfalls of any forum. Taking a break or blocking certain people will take the edge off when it gets too much.
I have taken plenty of breaks when the trolls get too frisky. That can help.
Yes "Goodbye Cruel World" are funny to me. The internet allows people to be to be the assholes they only wish they could be in real life. You can either get pissed about it or just accept that its as natural as the sun coming up.
