I think everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others. I also think that nobody including myself knows wat they might do if a situation bad enough comes up. Im personally not married nor do i have any kids, but i do know if times got bad enough i can promise you that id do WHATEVER it took to make sure they were ok. If that meant being george jung then thats wat id do to make sure my family had wat they needed. Times are tough and i think that if Tony really was doing wat he did for his family then it took some big balls and a lot of heart to take the chance he did for them. But then again i dont know the real story, just a meaningless opinion. Good luck Tony.

you are correct, it was conjecture on my part and I appologize. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Putting the drug thing aside. How do you feel about a professional pool player with a family forfeiting a match when the tourney pays $15K for first place and you've already spent money in expenses getting there and lost a substancial sum gambling?

Corvette,

I almost agree with you on everything you write on the forum.

But the gambling deal is, to me, you cant win unless you are willing to bet. If you bet you might lose, no bet IMO is a lock. Unless you are the house in Vegas, and they always win.

On the tournament deal, pool players dont always make good choices.

Lets not forget the real winner here:

Dave Faver ...who got a BYE into the final 8 winners side, when he should have faced TRex.

Is this the same Dave Faver that used to live in Lexington, Ky a few years back??? Dave used to be a strong player back then...haven't seen him for years...hope he is doing good!!

Vette asked a question and got flamed by overly-emotional typists posing as various aliases. Come on - we all know a pro players can't speak internet-English that eloquently (with the exception of cleverly-inserted grammatical imperfections). Better yet; who cares what known substance-abusers have to say about the legality/morality of drugs? Not I.

The original question was about 'not showing up to a match.' The debate should focus on that topic, instead of trivializing the severity of trafficking 61lbs of weed + cocaine. This is the very attitude which keeps pool from being a 'real sport.' Keep it up!

Like most on here, I don't have any insight into financial details. However, to respond to the original topic, I would like to think that missing a chance at a 15k payout was a calculated decision. If not, then, in light of the state of certain events to come, I believe it was a _very_poor_decision_.

Every man is innocent until proven guilty. Lucky for us, however, a mis-spelled name on a court document is insufficient in getting the case nullified.

The are many losers in this situation, other than tony. First, those watching/paying to watch matches. If a calcutta, the buyer, and most important....the sport loses, why? Here you might have excited spectators/families/kids getting a first glimpse of a classy evnet, only to show up and see a forfeit, that's not right. Picture this...the finals, televised, and one player was in the back room playing for 50K and did a no show, it could easily submarine the entire event for next year. Out of respect, players at an event of this magnitude (personally ANY event), should not be so selfish and do this to the promoter and the game. They should show up, play their match and go back to their action when done.

Vette, I think many AZ'ers think you are one of the more interesting posters here and your obviously no dummy, but even asking some valid questions in the manner you're doing it is rubbing people the wrong way and might not be worth it.

Tony screwed up, is a dumbass for doing it, but it does seem a little bit like kicking a man when he's down at this point.

In California, where Tony spent a big part of his life, marijuana is not only legal but the cannabis clubs will only buy buds if you bring in at least one full pound sometimes. The perception out here is a lot different about weed. Almost everyone here realizes that while illegal, its absolutely no where near the menace of alcohol except when Mexican drug gangs take over land and camp violent growers out in the woods.

My point is, stating 61 pounds of drugs when most if not all of it is a plant known for being relatively mild is being a bit over the top. Cocaine trafficking is a different thing, but I still think users are the problem, not people who make money off it. Pharmaceutical companies are no better and the side effects can be just as bad.

Tony made a huge mistake. If he had any brains, he would of just paid 150 bucks for a medical marijuana card, set up a grow room, and sold it to clubs if he wanted to be part of that scene. He's going to pay a big price for fukking up, I think rubbing it in his face a little bit at this point does no good and seems mean spirited.

He's a dumbass, not some child molester. I still think if he somehow gets off the charges, he won't have to much problem finding backers that still believe in him and his game.

I see your point and agree to a certain extent. The issue is that the goal of any "Pro" at anything is to make money. That is what being a pro means.

True, but you inadvertently hit the nail on the head - There's a difference between being a Pro and being a pro.

If he was charged as a child molester but not convicted----would you let him be around your children?

Let me see if I understand what your saying.....

Peddling a plant is now the moral equivilent to abusing children? Surely your not suggesting that and were only looking for an extreme example to try and make your point. Yes they are both illegal but that's about all they have in common.

Maybe someone can clarify some of this for me. If I'm reading correctly, Tony gambled with Billy and lost 10 dimes and then forfeited his match the next day in the one pocket which carries a 15K first place prize?

lmao. wow, just simply wow.

This guy is about to spend some serious time in jail and has a kid, wife/girlfriend etc..to take care of and does this. Someone please tell me that this info. is incorrect because I fail to believe that anyone can be so stupid.

He is a pool player, did you expect him to match up just for "fun?"

depends

The punishment for peddling a plant to my young child and abusing them is exactly the same. There are a lot more parents just like me. Something for those peddling plants to think about, not that it seems that was all he was peddling.

Input...FAIL!

Humor... FAIL!

On a side note... how many of you have been so pissed off with poor play/losing a early winners side match that you withdrew from the tournament before your losers side match. (let me guess, no one...)

Sounds like something similar, but no one really knows the details.

Personally I have never done it, but the thought has crossed my mind.
