Did someone actually do this? It's the same as betting on a race to 26, giving
Tony 6 games on the wire........I would guess lots of people would take that bet....
My eyes betray me on cuts to the right, so I prefer the left pocket. I know "conventional" One Hole players say I am wrong, but I prefer it that way and love when my opponent breaks to the right pocket.
^^^^^
This is the bottom line...you break to the pocket the table favors.....
...on a perfect table, righties and lefties would break to opposite pockets...
...but the REAL bottom line...THE BREAKER DETERMINES WHICH POCKET
HE BREAKS TO
AtLarge, do you have statistics on how often these guys win on their breaks in one-pocket?
In response to Quesports in post #220:
I watch this one pocket match because it's a big money action match; I did watch some of Tony v.s. SVB match too......It's not so much that I like watching 1Pocket, especially as slow as it gets sometimes, I am interested because of the high stakes. If they were playing race to 40 for $1000, I probably wouldn't watch. Yesterday was especially hard to watch, with Dennis looking at the table many times, getting down, practice stroking like he was finally going to shoot the shot, then getting up again......I don't know if he's doing that slowdown deliberately to affect Tony's game or whether he is just having a hard time making decisions on what shot to take, but it gets pretty annoying or maybe frustrating to watch.
I have exactly that ticket haha
Thank you.

Yea I agree with all you have said. In fact I have said in the past that watching one pocket is like watching paint dry! BUT it is a different animal when Tony is playing or any of the top echelon one pocket players. The tempo of yesterdays match seemed pretty consistent until a certain point then Dennis did slow things down. It does get less enjoyable when that happens but I guess that is just part of the game. When it gets real slow I do lose interest. I am now at T Rex believer though, when he is on it is something special!
If it's relevant to the on-going pissing match. I don't know anyone so completely unbiased opinion. I never, not for one second, was under the impression Black Balled meant it was a hard and fast rule. I took when he said "generally" that he meant more times than not (which can simply mean 51% of the time) people break at the same pocket because most players are righties and they usually break for the hole where they can reach the table better. All things being equal, most righties would break at the same hole. Key phrase is all things being equal. Table breaks same from both sides, no roll off, etc. Not sure how someone is supposed to phrase their opinion if they can't assume "all things being equal". Is one supposed to preface their statement with "well if the table breaks better to this side but rolls of on this side then I'd break from here but I'm a righty and so I'll break from this side cause I feel like I can reach a little better and that offsets the 1/4" role".
What does a 1-ball advantage factor out to in terms of game-win probability?I believe his last big match analysis put it at closer to a ball advantage.
I think that at the higher levels this would be true because the break is pretty much going to be the break. The difference is that at the higher levels they have the shots to get out of the break that the lesser player does not have or cannot execute consistently. So for mere mortals the break in a match is worth more.

I'm just trying to get a sense of how deep a hole Dennis is in.
Robo gonna bring it today. Snug this match up for our enjoyment and the Cheese. I heard his Meucci accidently disappeared last nite outside his Hotel room door while sleeping. Oh well, gonna have to resort to his 'B' player :groucho:
Have a good evening,
-Kat,
When me and my buddy play, I always break to the opposite pocket than he does - only reason is so I don't forget which pocket I have! Always the same every game
I am pulling for TRex; I actually played him in a tournament once.....he ran over me like I wasn't even there......afterward he was nicely complimentary of my game......I saw close up this guy's talent and beautiful stroke....his cue ball control is fantastic....
I played him once too. Same result.![]()
Have you made it down to watch any of this in person? I was there Tuesday night and probably go back down there tomorrow night.
