Tony Vs Dennis Chit Chat Thread

I agree. I feel more comfortable, as far as hit and control, breaking from the right side into the left pocket.

However, being right handed, I prefer shooting into the right pocket for all the reasons you just mentioned.

That is why I will take the right pocket when it is my turn to break.

I've always played where the breaker has a choice of which pocket they are breaking to.

My eyes betray me on cuts to the right, so I prefer the left pocket. I know "conventional" One Hole players say I am wrong, but I prefer it that way and love when my opponent breaks to the right pocket.

If they are both breaking towards the same pocket iti is cause the table breaks better towards one hole, rolls better into that hole or if none of that matters on a table then it is also cause both players are right handed and that hole makes it so you aren't put into a position where you can't reach a shot.
^^^^^
This is the bottom line...you break to the pocket the table favors.....
...on a perfect table, righties and lefties would break to opposite pockets...
...but the REAL bottom line...THE BREAKER DETERMINES WHICH POCKET
HE BREAKS TO

Someone forgot to tell you they are playing One Pocket and not Eight Ball. If you knew that then you might better appreciate the match.

I like to change things up once in a while and have a little fun. I'm sorry if you don't appreciate my humor. On a wide open table like that, if I describe the simple position to get from one ball to the next I would be criticized for that as well. You can't please everybody and that's how life is.

"You can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself."

Just keep being Jay.....you got my vote

I have a non-betting hunch that Dennis will hit a higher gear and putting the pressure on Tony. 40-37 Dennis. Johnnyt

A 9-game turnaround in one day?
Tony is one tough cookie.
Turns around a rack with his moves so often.
Dennis is getting a good lesson though.

The aggressiveness and recklessness

I really haven't watched the entire 2 days of this match....so I'd like to ask;
Has Tony been playing this way since day one, when he got way ahead?
I've just seen most of yesterday's games where he seemed to be taking a lot of chances, missing his aggressive shots, and opening up the rack for Dennis to run out.....especially toward the end....Is this the way he has played from the start and will continue to play?

He's been pretty aggressive end to end...it worked so well on Day 1 ppl thought Dennis was jarred. Dennis has to play Dennis style to win...a lot of times Dennis gets in trouble he goes for something ultra aggressive as well. In all fairness they both run out, guy who gets the first good look or creates something is usually who is winning. Dennis is looking more and more comfortable...i do believe Tony has to win the day to win this set. Dennis has to feel like he could have won 15 games yesterday so the confidence is going to come into play. I still think Tony is going to win but the margin is going to matter heading into day 4

yeah

I agree; I think this match may get closer....I had thought that when he was ahead the first day, 10-3 and then yesterday, got to 19-10, that it was pretty much over; I was thinking 1P is not like 9-ball, where a pro can run 6 or 7 racks to come back from a big deficit........but both these guys have won 4 games in a row like it was nothing special, so who knows?

AtLarge, do you have statistics on how often these guys win on their breaks in one-pocket?

I'm very interested in this also....conventional wisdom makes the break worth a ball and a half....
....but games evolve....gotta feeling today's players crack the break advantage more....
...kinda like the French and Sicilian defences at chess...answers were studied on.

The only way I'd feel good if I was a Tony fan was if I was holding a ticket with 7 games on the wire ,,DO is in striking distance with his B game that has to be worrisome

I think today's games will be the key.
The 1st day Dennis was not doing well.
The 2nd day he played better but still not to potential.
If Dennis can play to his potential today and get the score within 2/3 games, it will be a great finish.

On the other hand, if Tony keeps getting super aggressive and getting away with it, it could get ugly for Dennis fans.

FYI, I picked Dennis before this match started and still feel like he can win.

How bout guy in action room betting a thousand on Dennis to win set from here with no odds or games on wire...Wow is all I can say...pretty ballzy !!!

Wow is right

Did someone actually do this? It's the same as betting on a race to 26, giving
Tony 6 games on the wire........I would guess lots of people would take that bet....

Today may be the pivotal day and tomorrow could be really exciting. This matchup has so much potential for being just what pool needs to wake up new players. If it ends up being a barn burner tomorrow then maybe more folks in the entertainment industry will pay attention. Hoping for the best from both players today, I do not think we have seen Dennis at his best but Tony sure has played fantastic, with the exception of late yesterday. He took a break and then never seemed to get going again. Not sure what it was but he had real difficulty closing it out yesterday. Maybe the folks doing the commentary will have some inside scoop on that when things get going today. They sure know AZ is interested, there was some good comments about that yesterday. Guess they thought AZ members were not one pocket fans. It may be true that they aren't as rabid as the folks at onepocket.org but they still appreciate great pool in all the disciplines. I certainly do!!!!
