U.S Team Message To The Public

Well it's been a bad year for pool. The US OPEN was threatened by our players but yet they will bow down to get a payday and a spankin, then be ready to do it next year.

Sad !

I'd rather see one of them win the US OPEN and tell MATCHROOM how it is !
We will send a team of our choice and if you don't like the team forget it !

Oh geeez I think thats a 180.
But isn't that what pool needs a complete turn around !

Charlie Williams gets another payday from pool and AZ forums still think hes an asshole.

Check...the world is the same as it was yesterday.

As to the fans comments- without them, you don't have anything.
Again, get a clue. Quit thinking that you are so above your fan base that you have nothing to learn from them. You were supposed to be a part of TEAM AMERICA, and you want AMERICA to shut up and pay to watch you???? Are you really that big of an idiot??? sheesh.....

Team America... F**K YEAH!!!

(Sorry...I couldn't resist... :-))

Ok so help me understand the whole concept of a team captain for this.

So you have a few of the top USA pro pool players that go to Vegas to compete. Then maybe they are pro enough to show up to their matches on time. And they are pro enough to not get too drunk or stoned the night before.

Then they play some individual matches and the coach says "ok play good, make the 9 ball, come on guy get out there and kick some butt and use chalk - remember that!". "ok coach, thanks for the tips. Should I use inside english on every shot or what, I don't understand"!!!!

Then the team matches start. The simple concept is. One guys shoots and makes a ball and gets shape for his partner. Then the other team member does the same for his partner. Or they miss or can't get shape. It happens. Doesn't seem too complex.

What is the big deal about a team captain? Cheer leader? Or coordinator with the hotel for the players rooms and to make sure they get to bed on time because they are partying and might sleep in?

Even though I can't take the CW character and he should not represent the USA, it seems like even he can do that.

Don't miss this on the AZ Homepage. What I got out of it was CW wants to be the MC Coach for at least five years and a very small group of top players want the fans to pay to watch but be blind and shut-up about how they feel. Johnnyt

I just re-read the release and still do not understand why it was released. Perhaps Barry stirred things up with his own PR on the MC. The comments made by Putnam and Morris seem like they are off the wall and seemingly disrespecting the already dwindling fan base.

Luke Riches Loves Charlie Williams

When I learned that CW was being considered to be team captian, I contacted Luke Riches of Matchroom Sports.
According to Luke he read all the lies, racial and hateful comments, on AZ Billiards.
He loves CW and will not believe, anyone on the AZ Forum.

Later when CW was chosen, he told me too bad but CW was his man, and be prepared to be astonished when team USA won.

I will say this about Mr. Luke Riches, he answered every email I sent him, at least 10.

CW has got to be greatest con artist of all time.
He went into a girls room got naked and beat the system.
Yes, CW knows how to play the game, look how he took over the ABP, and Match Room Sports.

Lots of typing and very little forward thinking.... What will be the amendment to the release if the Mighty Earl ends up in the top 5 in points next year.....

I have nothing to say about Mike Dechain's portion as he showed us that he belonged there and I hope he makes it back. I wouldn't say I am a fan of Dechaine yet but that could change. He's fairly new so time will decide many things...

Rodney's comment of captain or no captain they all know how to play pool begs the question of why CW then when it's a buzz kill for most fans.. The part about not talking to the press I assume was directed at Barry.... I would have liked a list of the 1000x more items CW did over Varner but that's just because I like facts....

Johnny's statement was pretty much all class... I would have liked a little ownership or insight to the loss since every man didn't "do their part" but it is win as a team or lose as a team so I think that would be highly unfair....

All and all I think the release should have been a thank you to match room and all of the fans with a promise to bring the cup back next year... The "Europe got all the rolls" post match statement coupled with the Ifs sentiment voiced in this release just doesn't leave a warm fuzzy......

Agreed! clap, clap, clap!

Add me to the list that will not support Matchroom or any of their sponsors as long as Charlie Williams is "captain". Charlie has showed no class at all in defeat and since then with his press release. He has done a lot to damage the game we love from a professional standpoint, but aside from SVB and Oscar Dominguez most of the top 20 American players are stuck up acting snobs who do not care about promoting the game at all, they are just out for themselves and it looks like pro pool is officially dead in the USA. Good Riddance anyhow as SVB will be okay for a long time with his work ethic and class he will keep his sponsorship for many years to come, hopefully Oscar can get a good sponsorship soon. Let people like Archer, Deuel, Putnam, Williams, etc continue to walk with their noses in the air while their "profession" continues to die. Their may be other American class guys that are at the top like Donny Mills, but that is three out of many aint good.

With the exception of Mika, most Euro's, Asians, and everyone else in the world are professional, classy and approachable. Too bad the US players have corncobbs stuck in em with the few notable exceptions.

I will continue to support TAR, Justin, SVB, Oscar, Barry Behrman, Jerry Forsyth, etc. and the good guys of the game.

What you said

It is no big deal. I am just one fan. But I canceled my trip to Vegas when they announced CW as captain. (And could not help but notice all of the empty seats there when I caught a bit if the broadcast at my local sports bar.) And I will not support the Matchroom events until he is removed from that post.

And I will NEVER buy products that sponsor Charlie. No Predator cues, no Yalin tables, no Takini cloth, nothing that supports him. The ABP and their attitude towards the fans can also count on my non-support.

You likely have more familiarity with your exchange with Mr. Riches than I:sorry:...

But like a real Chef, I take his comments as portraying his full commitment to his decisions.

Mr. Riches is a business ninja, no doubt about it.

IMO, he doesn't pull a single string without being fully aware of the consequences. Having such emotions attached to CW's selection is massive press and as they say: well, I don't know the cliche, but something like 'any press is good press'...it sure as shit got the pool world's attention.

Add the likihood that Matchroom/ CW/ ABP/ Dragon have formed a working relationship that may bear future benefit for both- yes, I consider CW/ ABP/ Dragon to be a single entity- a good move, damn near all-around.

Bottom line for me... I was glued to the monitor for last year's match. With all controversy surrounding this year's match, I didn't watch for a minute. Now with all the post-match BS, I could care less if there is another MC.

lol, stop it. You're killin' me.

Obviously they misgauged just how bad the bad press was going to be -- no sane PR person does this to themselves on purpose. It may very well have been a decision made higher up than the PR department and they were forced to pull out the lipstick and tell the pig to sit still. Bad press like this does not engender American pool fan support of the MC. And, it's just beginnning to snow ball on them. It's likely to get worse next year and it should be even more interesting when the event comes back to town in 2013. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how committed they are to this brilliant PR decision in the out years.

But really, given what's transpired, MR must be considering the MC mostly an event for European consumption because they are certainly not doing anything to get the fans interested and behind the team here.

This goes against the Press Release Matchroom issued, BY Luke Riches. His press release also doesn't seem to mesh with what BarneyCalip said about Luke.

Please read the press release from Luke Riches of Matchroom, that's on the Home page of AZ. I've worked with Luke for many years now and he is a great guy to work with. He's a straight shooter that gives direct answers to many of your questions. Luke does not beat around the bush and does not play politics. He will tell it exactly like it is.

That said, the Mosconi Cup remains one of the premier events in the pool world, as does the other offerings from Matchroom - The World Pool Masters and the World Cup of Pool. I am thankful for the role they play on the International pool scene. Matchroom sets the standard that other promotional entities must try to live up to when producing billiard events. They may well be the most professional and well run events that I am involved in.

True, it was a bad loss this year for Team USA, one of their worst ever. Does this mean that the Mosconi Cup is diminished in any way? No it does not! It just means that the American players must rededicate themselves to their sport and work harder in the future to be better players. Take a look at the European team. They are dedicated athletes, most of them with regular work-out routines. I wish I could say the same for the American players. A game of tennis one morning is not going to cut it I'm afraid.

If we had five players with the work ethic and single mindedness of Shane Van Boening, all would be well in American pool. We need to develop more players like him to regain our position as a world power on the pool scene.

How in da heck did you tip toe around that huge elephant in the room, Jay??

Well done, sir!!

What did they reall do to themselves? Upset the AZ Billiards Forums? In the grand scheme of things we don't matter. So they would still benefit from press coverage that reaches anyone outside the circle of knowledge we call this forum.

Press coverage on pool outside AZ...

OK, hmmm, the billiard magazines (with a subscriber base made up of AZ members) .. a couple of other pool forums that are still viable (with participation from the usual suspects)... and.... and...

Are you expecting to see their news releases in SI? On ESPN? ESPN2? CNN? The New York Times? The Washington Post? Wall Street Journal? Comedy Central?

this is it, baby
