Varner Vs Frost 1pct, 14.1 and 8-Ball

why no 9 or 10 ball?
Hey there, I think that 9 and 10 ball are played all the time in tourneys and challenge matches. I personally think that a) 8-Ball can be more challenging (JMO) and b) there are alot of league players out there that only play 8-ball and it gives them the chance to see it played. Maybe they just don't relate to 1 snatch and 14.1 cos they never play it but they can relate to 8-Ball. Maybe we will get some people watching who don't usually watch who knows. Anyway that was the thought process, but if there is a legit number of people who would rather see 9 or 10 ball I can change it. Just want it to be a good match with a little something for everyone.

Was nice talking to you Mark, I am in for it bud and think everyone will enjoy watching it too. It is not often that these kind of matches are streamed free, I still remember the one we did with Frost and Efren free, was my first stream besides Earl doing a little exhibition. You were one of the first to do an exhibition style challenge match and especially having it streamed too. What were the payouts in 2008 with Frost and Efren?

Nick already beat Frost back in 01 or maybe 02. I watched them play at the old DCC. They played for 200 or 300 a game. It was a heist.

With that being said that was 10 years ago and Nick had some health complications immediately after. I have to say Scott is the favorite now. But if Nick wants to play then one thing you can count on is he thinks he can win. So, this would be a great match to watch. Nick must be hitting balls and feels like he's playing good. He has too much pride to get up there and embarrass himself I know that for a fact!

Nick will take the 1P and the 14.1

Nick is one of the best 1P players to ever play the game. His style of play will put Frost to sleep.

Thats true, and when you look at it that was what 6 years ago?? With Efren and Scott I mean. I believe they were playing for 5k back then but times were different and I am not sure I can raise that kind of $$ I am guessing it will be 4k and the winner getting 3k.

I am glad that we will have the stream for free and many thanks to you Lenny for working with us on this project otherwise it probably would not get streamed. I am looking forward to it and if anyone out there would like to do a little sponsorship it would be appreciated as we need all the help we can get. I think we are looking at the begining of August as there are a few things going on between now and then. Tunica will be a great event and and also Rodney Morris and Archer will be playing a challenge that weekend too but that will not be strreamed. Also there is a 14.1 event at the end of July I think. So thats where we are. I like COCO's idea of Battle of the Ages.

On a personal level I like Varner better and in his prime Frost would have no chance in 14.1, one pocket they would be close.

OMG! Amazing news in the works for this. It may not happen but I may have a very special guest to help with commentary. I will tell more as I know it.

It was just over 4 years back that it happened and the house was packed for it. I want to say that any sponsors who are interested in this, I will be able to run video commercials during the stream or a banner to promote your site or product. I am sure the numbers will be very high for this since its free, probably tens of thousands of people tuning in for it. I think this match could go either way with the format.

Thanks for all your input and support. Nick dont think he is the underdog. Scott has alot of respect for Nicks ability. We are in for a good one here, Not just hype I really think this will be some quality pool.

Can years of experience and knowledge overcome an active younger player? That was the question I put to a number of friends. It seemed that the answers were mixed. Obviously depending on the length of the race and the game were all factors. So I got to thinking about something I have wanted to do for a while and in the process of putting together a very interesting Challenge match between Nick Varner and Scott Frost. As some of you know the last couple of Challenges I have put together have been an assortment of different games and this is no different. Both Nick and Scott are on board to play this match, race to 10 1 pocket (may end up being more) race to 15 8-Ball and a race to 200 straight pool.

The scoring will be what I originally wanted with the Bad Blood event where each game won is equal to one point for the 1 pocket and the 8-Ball and then the final game will be the 14.1 and each 10 points will equal one point.

So what do you think? can Nicks years of know how and experience get the edge on a younger active player that also has tons of experience and highly regarded as a one pocket player. The races are not super long but long enough and the games are ones that take more that just being able to make balls.

Oh, looking at having some $$ in the middle of course and like the TAR matches making sure that the winner gets the largest chunk of the $$ and the loser getting an appearance fee. Love to know your thoughgts on this.

Awesom idea Mark, dont be fooled people,Nick can out move Frost and out shoot him,not very long ago Nick was the most fear over all player around, in the country or world!but frost is a 1pocket machine!

This sounds great. Two players I've always enjoyed watching playing 3 games I've always enjoyed watching and FOR FREE! When this comes off this is going to be appointment watching for me.

I like the players, I like the chosen games, I just don't know about that point system thing... It may work just fine, I just haven't seen anything run this way. I think this would be a fun match to watch, assuming 9' table, <4.5" pockets, and good commentators.

Thanks for the support, I know the points system is different but like i said before I believe it makes each rack worth more and will also make it a close finish. I guess everyone still knows who beat who at what game so that part hasn't been taken away and the score will reflect each player playing as hard as possible down to the very last rack of 8-ball or 1 pocket as they want that point. We shall see if it don't work then I won't do it again and if it does work then we may see more matches like it and I will be an innovator :)

Mr Hoppe sorry, my last post about the scoring was to you.

Thanks, appreciate your enthusiasm. Keep your fingers crossed.

If this match happens anywhere in Arizona I'm there. This is going to be a match to remember. I like the format and the games chosen. Scott has his work cut out for him. Nick is a hall of famer who can still get it done. Keep us updated once you finalize a date and what not.

Varner is a great player and one of my favorites but I don't think he can touch Frost.

Experience is overrated beyond a point. Good equipment, instruction and other changes in the game have lowered the learning curve required to become a great player.

Tempe!

If this happens in Phoenix area I'm so in!

The Frost/Reyes match was epic, I could have watched it all day.
