Has anyone tried out one of these shafts yet???? im eager to recieve mine, looking for input on what you think.

thanks

While your new shaft will play awesome...its not actually LD as possible. You ordered a 30" shaft and they will indeed have more deflection than a 29"...or my favorite...28.5". You also wanted it fat...13mm. Lesser diameter such as in the 12.5-12.7 range will have less deflection too. So...in a nutshell...a 12.7mm, 28.5" shaft will deflect less than a 13mm, 30" shaft. With that being said...it'll be 50X better than your old shaft. Your old shaft had the ferrule installed horribly...it had a huge glue seam under the ferrule where it wasn't flushed with the wood, the Elkmaster tip was dry rotted beyond play...and the taper went from 11.9mm to 13mm in a couple of inches. Your new shaft will be like a dream come true. Let me know what you think after you hit some balls.

I like the short ferrules on Varney shafts. I wish more people offered the shorter ferrules, LD or not.

Joe

Amen this this ^

Mr. Varney, can I ask, what's modified in these shafts that make them low deflection? Short, uncapped ferrules? Are they hollowed?

i'm curious too. if you don't want to say though nobody can hold it against you. trade secrets and all

I dont get it. Why would the length of the shaft have anything to do with the deflection characteristics of a shaft? If the last 6 inches or so of a 30" shaft weigh the same as the last 6 inches of a 29" shaft, there should be no reason for the 30" to deflect more.

that's all scientific and stuff but it sounds about right.

that shaft i sent you was just the spare i never played with i think thats the shaft that danny tater played with when he had it, i played with the other one and i use a sniper tip.

so my new shaft should have less deflection than a normal shaft or more ??now im a little worried, you make it sound as though it wont have any LD properties since i ordered it fat and long.........

It'll be fine. Just wait until you play with it.

ok ive had this shaft since 04-22-09 and during that time ive given it a fair run and it has broke not once but twice at the collar and doesnt seem to play anything like a predator or any LD shaft ive ever played with. it plays more like a old players cue than anything with this shaft. i switched back to the huebler original shaft and it seems to play worlds better than the one i traded my predator for. but i wish i had my 314 back.:sorry:

any chance i could get my predator shaft back since this shaft really isnt up to par??

Just be glad you got the shaft you paid for... That's more than most people get from him...

Brian

Good Luck!!

Varney may be the world's foremost expert on deflection and I ain't talking about in pool cue shafts!

When you don't get a response from Varney and you get angry, please don't start a new thread about how you were screwed over by Varney. You bought the shaft (in more ways than one) just a few months ago but yet the history of his horrible customer service goes back a couple of years (IIRC).

At this point and time (IMO) anyone that buys anything from Varney, Wheat, Eason, etc needs to keep their complaints to themselves. There has been enough information posted over the years on how bad these guys are that there is simply no excuse for someone to buy something from them. If you value your money, do your homework on who you're giving it to.

Im not necesarily complaining as i am publicly asking for my 314 shaft back in exchange for his shaft.

seems fair im not satisfied and he gets to keep the additional money i gave him.

Thats why I said "When you don't get a response from Varney and you get angry, please don't start a new thread about how you were screwed over by Varney."

The odds are not in your favor. You're more likely to not get a response from Varney and get angry about it than you are to get what you're looking for.

I hope you get what you're looking for but when we don't learn from history, it repeats itself. Good luck.

Good luck. Based on his extensive history, you will never get a refund, a trade back for your old shaft, or any other type of compensation, or even a response back from him now that he has your money in his pocket. All that you get when you deal with Varney is "the shaft", same as almost everyone else who has dealt with him.

Just be glad that he didn't keep your money and never send "the shaft", or take 2+ years (when it was promised within a month) to give you "the shaft", which is also a common business practice.
