Like the title says it's going to be one of these two cuemakers .
Heard a lot of good things about both of them but just can not
make up my mind .
I want a sneaky with RADIAL PIN .
Please some info about the playability of these cues .

Thanks ,

Christoph

That should be an easy choice, I would certain buy the Varney. I mean you can catch the Clap for a lot less, but all it will do is piss you off!!!!!:p:(

getting the clap is way more fun than having the clap!

Come on you know that one!

Personally I know there's been lots of talk in the past about Kevin's cues.I think his standard are 3x8 10 pin but I'm sure he has Radial to.I really think Kevins cues hit solid as stone and built for a player who is looking for playability as Kevin is a player himself. He gets some really beautiful dense birdseye and knows what wood combos seem to produce the best tone and feel to the hit.The one I have is plainer than my other cues but is one of the best hitting cues I've had in my life and for the amount of cues I've bought and sold in my area which would equal a small forest of wood that says something. It's all what your looking for in a cue, goodluck in your search:smile:

Theres just something special about how Varney builds his cues. The hit is hard to describe. It is very lively but firm, I love his cues because they are like tools. Right down to business.

Gilbert? Hill? Cameron? BHQ? I would personally prefer quite a few makers over the two you've narrowed it down to, although I have never tried a Klapp... that's just based on many invaluable recommendations of far more knowledgeable people than I.

I don't know Klapp. For the money, though, you can't beat Kevin's cues. I just bought one. Wrapless Brazilian Rosewood from the '70s with a birdseye handle. I agree, the hit is hard to describe if you're not used to it.

Klapp is very reliable (will make what you want & on time) and produces a very nice cue. I know you said sneaky, but he is willing to do whatever you want...he loves to experiment. A sneaky with tasteful butterflies is popular right now. He uses top-flight materials too!

You might call him (or PM him on AZB "nucues") & see what he thinks...he'll take your call & discuss whatever you want. Not sure about whether he does radial joints though.

Klapp. He's up & coming and hungry. He's not a bit afraid to try things and learn, and as such is already producing designs that have been executed by top cue makers. Super nice guy, honest, energetic, wants to work & earn a living. He genuinely wants to make you happy so he feels like he earned his paycheck. That's a quality lacking in many, many cue makers. I wish I had his enthusiasm.

If you don't know, the below statement is one hell of a referral!

Varney does a great job. So does Leon Sly. Klapp probably does pretty good too. Lots of good cue makers out there.

Yep, I couldn't have put it better myself! He's an absolutely great guy to deal with...that reminds me, I owe him a phone call!

I've never hit a Varney, so I couldn't/wouldn't be able/willing to compare the two...but I can say I STRONGLY recommend Steve.

I put a review of a Steve Klapp cue in the review section...it might help...

I have owned both cues. Varneys play good and the Klapp played great also. We had a misunderstanding on the weight so Klapp demanded that I send the cue back to make thecue weigh out like I wanted. I just sent it back last week and can't wait to get it back. As a few have already said his desire for cue building and eagerness for the customer to get exactly what they pay for is second to no other cue maker in the industry. Steve stands behind his cues on warping and even offers one free refinish to the original owner of the cue as well. He sincerely cares what your opinion is on his cues and is determined to make a great playing cue (which he does). I have talked with him several times over the past several weeks prob totaling 2 hours of talk time. His ringwork being either the silver-paper thin black ring-brass-paper thin black ring-silver or brass-paper thin black ring-silver-paper thin black ring-brass is absolutely awesome in person too. It really has to be seen in person to see how intricate they look. He quoted me 2-3 months on the cue and I got in 7 weeks. Email him to send you a picture of a cue in the works now being cocobolo forearm, tulipwood and pienna (I believe although prob not spelled right) with a segmented cocobolo handle and pienna buttsleeve with tulipwood buttcap. It also has some amboyna rings as well and I tell you this cue is drop dead gorgeous. If I can come up with the money I am going to get that cue from him also.

Never tried a Klapp either. But he's got my vote between the two candidates in the race.

I agree with Zach. Do some research and come up with a bigger list. Otherwise, go with the Klapp.

everybody thanks for the reviews .
I made up my mind and put pictures here when i've got it .
hmm what way did i go ???? :p:p:p
You just have to wait for the pictures .

That's like my wife asking me to make a choice for her... and her picking the one I didn't choose. Does it all the damn time.

:scratchhead:

I would have gone with Klapp... or anyone else for that matter.
Just sayin'

Why? Yes a couple of years ago Varney had some issues but he fixed everything and lets face it life happens.. Although I dont think he could have made a "Wrong" decision I think he will be tickled pink with a Varney. Varney builds a true players cue. His cues play great, I have owned a few. Yes they are not loaded with inlays or fancy rings but they dont need it. Varneys cues arent built to be locked up in a safe, they are built for battle! :)

I'll assume your 'why?' was aimed at me. So in response, all I'll say is...

I've owned a Varney too. There's a reason that I don't own one anymore. Several reasons actually. And none of them are his previous incidents with not delivering, etc.. That has nothing to do with it.
