Wade crane killed in car wreck last night

Knoxville News Article ...

This is the article as it apeared in the Knoxville Tn. news :

KNOXVILLE - The driver found dead Sunday morning in a crash on Interstate 40 has been identified as 66-year-old Wade Arlyn Crane of Acworth Ga.

Although the wreck remains under investigation, Knoxville Police Department officers have said a medical condition may have resulted in the wreck just east of the West Hills exit.

When officers responded about 9:40 a.m. Sunday, witnesses told them Crane's 2000 Volkswagen had crossed three lanes of traffic and struck the right concrete retaining wall. The vehicle then crossed back over five lanes of traffic and hit the center concrete retaining wall.

No other vehicles were involved and Crane, the Volkswagen's sole occupant, was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

More details as they develop online and in Tuesday's News Sentinel.

I had the pleasure of steering him around the bar table scene for a few days in the later sixties.

Man, that guy could play. My ears still hurt when I think about him breaking the balls. RIP

That is sooooooo funny Jay, but just like him. My eyes are still watering from laughing.

On Freddy the Beard's website, you can see the DVD entitled "Road Scholars," along with the Road Scholars picture: Road Scholars.

You can see Wade Crane in the back row, between Freddy and Grady.

I just purchased the "Road Scholars" dvd from Dianna Hoppe a few weeks ago, and it is really fun to watch and to hear all the stories from the old "scholars". Now to hear of Wade's passing, I am doubly glad I own it.

Jay, thanks for the stories!

I was waiting for someone to confirm Wade's passing before offering my condolences to his family. Although I have never met Wade, I have seen him play a couple times and he will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.

Dave

This thread is emblematic of why I love this forum. Great job of honoring Wade, everyone.

JAM: Very apropos wiki page! You're a credit to the pool community.

It is awful news for sure.

If anybody has any referenced data for Wade Crane's Wiki page, it would be a welcome addition. As with everything in pool, there is not much of an archives on the Internet about pool players from Wade Crane's era.

I hope to receive some more information about Wade Crane's legacy in the pool world. Please let me know if you know of any that can be used. It sure would be nice to include it. I am going to go through my older pool periodicals tonight and see if I can find more Wade Crane snippets.

TIA!

Thank you very much for the kind words. I only wish I had worked on it before his passing, so he could have enjoyed it. I am still a little bit in shock about the whole thing. :(

R.i.p.

..Sorry to hear another legend has left us.......Kudos to Jay for those wonderful stories.....Still waiting for your next book, Jay.........

played in a onepocket tournament with Wade in Rocky Mount N.C. he was looking to buy a glove and they did not have any, so I gve him one of mine-the first thing he did was cut out all the fingers because he said he liked to feel the table-nice guy-R.I.P.

He will be missed

Wade was a good friend it seems like forever. one of the funniest pool player ever, great story teller, all around fun guy. I'll miss him as I'm sure many on here will.

So we're all sitting around at DCC about ten years ago and this guy walks up to Billy. "Hey Wade, how are you? Remember when we played in that tournament a few years ago in Macon (?)." Billy, (looking puzzled) "Yeah, I think so. How'd we come out?" The Guy, (laughing) "You beat me you dirty dog." We all laugh now.

Now the guy looks dead serious and says to Billy, "You know there another guy who looks a lot like you, but he has a beard." Billy, "Oh, who's that?" The Guy, "He goes by the name of Billy Johnson. You ever heard of him?" Billy, "Yeah, I think so. How's he play?" The Guy, "Oh he plays a lot better than you!"

I don't think any of us stopped laughing for fifteen minutes.:smile::smile:
