What happened to Mike Sigel in Paris?

I am looking at the charts of Group D at the Eurotour. Mike was supposed to play Askid Hansen today. The score of that match is 0-0 with Hansen advancing to the next round and Sigel eliminated. Did he forfeit? If so, is he OK?

What happened to Mike Sigel

Just prior to the match with Askid Hansen, the tournment director came up and started talking with Mike Sigel. They apparently got into some type of "disagreement" in front of a bunch of people who were watching. Mike was visibily upset and left the arena.

This is a real shame, because Mike has been playing extremley strong lately, so I was really looking forward to seeing how he would do. I got to see him play a good bit the week before he flew to France and he was running racks like crazy.

Any idea what it was about? Were they telling him to stop talking?

Mike is back in the US now. I just spoke to him on the phone about what happened. He said that about 15 minutes before his match, someone in the crowd asked him a question about pool. His opponent had gone to the restroom, so Mike didn't see any problem with talking with the guy in the crowd. But at that point, one of the tournament officials came up and started jumping all over Mike for being outside the playing area and talking with the crowd.

Mike said, "The match doesn't start for 15 more minutes, so I don't see an issue with answering this guy's question." However, the tournament director (one of two brothers) got loud with Mike and started embarrassing him in front of everyone who was watching. Mike said he felt like the guy had it in for him from the start.

So alhough Mike was playing pretty strong, and had just won his previous match 9 - 3, he had all he could take from this tournament director and left the area. In fact, he was so upset that he has dropped out of the EuroTour. He said that he just doesn't have the patience to deal with that kind of stuff any more.

He should have stuck it out. The Europeans are a little strange, when in Rome do as the Romans do. Mike had a gear that few others can reach and he is young enough to still have it if he gets back into competition. I'd like to see him make a comeback.

Sorry guys but that´s sh.i.t.
I was not there, but a good friend of mine, and he told me something different.
He told me Mike was doing his talking thing the whole time and that he was disqualified because he didn´t stop.
And it was during matches, too, and it was directly going at his opponents and that´s it !!

No "strange" europeans, but "strange" americans which believe they are the greatest and can do what they want !!

I think stupid was not a good word to use, but for sure there are more americans doing trash talk then europeans, or

And in that case i heared it was Mike talking to much trash - and he got a warning before, too.

I have to agree Erich, European pool players conduct themselves more professionally than most American players. I do wish some of the Europeans would loosen up a bit during their matches sometimes, but you can't fault their focus and determination.

Dangerous Dan and mair23 seems to have two versions of the story.

I spoke to Askild Hansen, Mike Sigels opponent. Askil plays in the same club as me, I believe he even has a userid here on AZ..

Askild told me that Mike Sigel was warming up, and Askil went to the restroom. When Askild came back, Siegel was showing something to a spectator - 3 balls on the table, either showing a match situation or whatever..

The TD came to Mike Siegel, and told him to do his pool school away from the tournament area.. and finish the warm up. Then there were some "WTF" comments about lack of respect and so on, ending up with Mike Siegel saying someting like "Get the f*** out of my face". The TD then pointed on Mike S, said "last warning", turned and left.

Mike Siegel stood there with a somewhat puzzled look on his face, unscrew his cues and left.

Now, from what I understand there is an X-factor here: The previous night there had been some disagreement between the TD and Siegel, which may have triggered the impatience from the TD. I dont know what that incident was about.

Seems like both the TD and Mike Siegel was a bit too sensitive here.. TD wanting to have a somewhat unneccessary power trip, and Mike Siegel perhaps wanting some extra slack. Too bad if Mike S. doesnt play anymore on the Eurotour because of this

I don't believe anyone called the Europeans stupid.

And I'm a bit fuzzy on my history, but I think it was "stupid Americans," who did believe they could do anything, that came to the rescue, when Europe was in flames...

Perhaps the Europeans do get hung up on a few formalities that we "stupid Americans," in general, don't take too seriously. But Mike is Mike. And I don't think too many "stupid Americans" would take umbrage about you talking about *one* arrogant, chatty, but nonetheless legendary American pool player.

Calling us all stupid, is maybe not such a good idea, YMMV.

I make a 6/5 pick-em on who can piss the farthest!!

SO Mike Sigel AND Askild Hansen BOTH gave the same accounting...must be some truth in to the story.

Maybe the TD was afraid that the "Stupid American" would be a real threat to the Europeans on tour.

A shame if Mike Sigel won't play more on the Eurotour because of this...

I wanted to go to the Eurotour in Germany, and one of the reasons was because Mike Sigel was supposed to play all Eurotours this year...
