As some of you know I try really hard to find some kind of event that will be really enjoyable for all pool and billiards fans. I have to come up with 100 ideas to find one that MAY work.
I have tried the Magnificent 7, Challenge matches, dvds, obviously the Legends and Champions pool Tours that have featured, Earl, Nick, Johnny, Buddy, Rodney, Efren, Scott and Stefano. Hell I have even tried hot sauces that are player branded. Some have worked very well and some havn't. So as I got to thinking, I wondered what is the ultimate that people want to watch, attend or be apart of.

Is it a Legends pool tourney? with the likes af the above mentioned? is it a show? if so who with? Weekend lessons with some of the greatest players ever? I would love you input, not saying I can make them happen as sometimes the cost is greater than the potential income.
I know that people love TAR, I love TAR. Is that as far as it goes though? challenge matches? Is there something that would make you say "OMG I have to see this, its gonna be awesome"

Hey who knows tha answer may be sooo simple that I have gone right by it. I hope everyone is doing well in our little pool community.

I'll tell ya what I'd like to see....

Someone follow Earl around 24/7 with a camera and make a show out of it. I wanna see Earl go shopping and the Chunky Soup rings up a dollar more than it should and how he handles it with the 15-year old pimple-faced kid. I wonder if that will slide into a diatribe about how that kid doesn't know what it's like to live on his own and how Earl was on the road since he was 8.

Better yet, send Earl into a restaurant and pre-arrange for his steak to come out raw or over-cooked and tape it when he calls the manager over.

Whoever does that first is a millionaire.

lol, believe it or not I have already thought about this. There are a couple of people on this forum who can verify that I have had the conversation with them on how to get it done. Well its not as much as setting Earl up or anyone else for that matter. Just doing a behind the scenes kinda thing on the road. Thanks for the positive re enforcement though I will have to look at it again before someone else does.

How about, Strip Nine-Ball. Race 'til naked.
This would be especially entertaining on Ladies Night, at your friendly neighborhood pool room.

US Open 9 ball in Chesapeak Va. live and in the stands, doesn't get any better than that....

What is the ultimate pool fan experience?

I prefer a light breeze so an adjustable speed is very important. I would also like the fan to blow fast when my opponent shoots and move the balls around. My ultimate fan would also eat smoke.

A trip to a big tournament in Asia would be way cool!

Has anyone considered a reality TV show where a charasmatic / entertaining player such as (Alex, earl, etc) walk into poolrooms around the country and have a progressive pot that will pay a local poolroom player the pot if they win a set. The stakes could start at $1000 for the set. If the pro wins, the pot grows to $2000 the next week at a new pool hall, etc. if the pro does not lose before the season ends, he keeps the pot.

I'd watch that.

Ultimate Fan Experience

My answer would be:
some table time with some of the greats of pool
maybe a scotch double tourny matching up novices with pros

Mine is a little different mark. I loved the one-on-one conversations with Earl, Sigel, having dinner with Grady, playing Buddy Hall on a road trip, etc. I guess what I'm alluding to is time spent with some of my favorite pros where I can pick their brains like a chicken bone!

Also, (and this is real nerdish) but I love watching a great Accu-Stat match after everybody has gone to bed. Even though I've seen 'em all before, I still learn something new every time either from the commentatry or the players actually managing the table. It's the best tutorial going as far as I'm concerned.

An actual event? I personally would be thrilled to see the US open or world ten ball. Maybe an event in china, just for the experience of getting both the familiar world of pool and the unfamiliar world of the east.

A show: How's this?

America loves the concept of the hustler.
And we know most casual players can't name or describe a pro outside of jeanette lee and maybe johnny archer.

So have a show where they pick any random pro (not a top pro, someone who isn't too recognizable) and have him/her travel from pool hall to pool hall, seeing how much cash they can hustle up in a day or a weekend. Give them the full resources of the studio to come up with costumes, props, disguises, etc. Set up cameras ahead of time (that the owner knows about, but the customers don't). Capture the enture hustle from start to finish.

See how many pool halls he can blow through before some detective figures out who it is. He's now done, count up his winnings. Next week: a different pro takes a shot, and sees if he can top the first guy's tally. We see who the biggest earner is at the end of the season.

To avoid lawsuits and keep everyone happy, the studio of course pays people back whatever they lost. Maybe the fish then gets another shot at the pro, this time on his own dime... knowing exactly what he's up against but getting a realistic spot.

Some interesting ideas and some cool things that people want to do. Seems that TV reality is popular with alot of people.

A scotch doubles tournament where league players rotate racks playing with a pro against another pro and league team.

Pool players do not care about watching pros they want to play.

I'll be attending my 5th straight US Open 9 ball this year and I love it! However... I went to the last Mosconi Cup (my first) and enjoyed it even more (even though the US lost :( ).

Why??? I think there's multiple reasons. "Us against them" being one reason.

However, having a team competition is just different. Having multiple personalities playing together just generates different dynamics. Now I realize for you Mark that bringing in 10 of the best players on the planet is unfeasible. But, perhaps having an all around with 2 against 2 is attainable. Mic 'em up and encourage a relaxed social atmosphere and we will get to enjoy more than our typical 1 vs 1. Maybe after each rack the losing team has to drink a shot! That will loosen 'em up and bring on the chatter!

Call it The Double Shot Championship!

I would love to see Earl, Nick, Johnny, Buddy, Rodney, Efren, Mike Siegel, McCready play in a ring game where they are encouraged to talk and goad each other.

Tar matches are great, but I'd like to see a Pro come in and play one of the best local players for some cash. Maybe a spot is needed or maybe not, but either way, I think it would be exciting.

Yeah, watching Orcullo vs SVB is fun as well, but I don't know those guys personally, so for me it's just two Pro players competing. It would be a lot more exciting for me if one of the players was a personal friend of mine.

I'd like to see all the champions in one room, matching up, getting in the box, and playing for the cheese.

The Mosconi Cup is the best show in Pool! There is nothing that matches the atmosphere at this event. In fact, nothing even close! :thumbup2:

I cannot understand why nobody has done this yet. This idea would make a fortune and it wouldn't even have to be scripted like all of these other so called reality TV shows.

Please, Mark or somebody, follow this guy around with a camera everywhere he goes. One of these television networks would have a field day with and you'd make a lot of money. Somebody make it happen.

I'd like to see handicapped amateur vs professional challenge matches, with an amateur player that has a little skill of course. Just give a whole lotta weight given to the amateur player so that the amateur is at least even money to win. This would be great for pool.
