What tip glue do you use

I have glued many tips on my own cue with great success. I have yet popped one off but the tips that I do for a local bar they are constantly coming off. I was wondering if anybody got any help with this. I use Loctite gel type super glue and I use a lathe to square the end and sand the back of the tip. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Gorilla Glue is a pain! You have to align the tip well, clamp for 3-4 hours min., and there's always some squeeze-out around the sides, so masking the ferrule is necessary. But, done well, you'll never lose a tip. Also, when retipping time comes, it's easier to cut off the tip and prep the ferrule safely than with the crystallized super glue. If quick turnaround is necessary, I use Loctite 'Professional' CA. Otherwise, its GG always.

I would get a new tube of the Loctite, sometimes as it gets older it loses something. Nothing wrong with your glue choice, I would doublecheck your lathe setup, and make sure you are getting the end on the shaft completely flat. Sounds to me like there is something wrong there.

Loctite s.g. professional is much stronger, and sticks to more surfaces.

Any Super Glue Gel will work fine, I do at least 100 tips a month and I use The Original Super Glue Gel. I buy it in packages of 3 tubes for $1 per pack at the Dollar Store. Never had a problem with this adhesive, and you can't beat the price.

Take care

Loctite Super Glue Professional.

As you can imagine, we do quite a few tips every week. We have found that the Professional works better than anything else we have tried including some special formulations put together specifically for our use by a local specialty adhesives distributor.

One thing you might need to watch is the type of ferrule that is on the house cues. I remember once several years ago one of the local suppliers bought a bunch of house cues for a church rec room. I had to replace all the ferrules because I could not get the tips to stay on. Not even the original tips stayed on!

I hope that helps!

Tweeten tip glue

The same folks who make Master Chalk also make Tweeten tip cement. I have NEVER had a tip pop off in 45 years of using this stuff on my tips and all of my friends tips (yes, both friends). You have to clamp it and let it sit for 24 hours before trimming the tip up, but it never gets old and crystallizes and it fills any voids in the leather. Besides, Skip Nemechek, the owner of Tweeten (I think he is) is a great guy who supports the sport and deserves your business.

Please, before anyone starts up, Tweeten does not advertise here, is not a prospect to advertise here, has never been approached to advertise here and does not need to advertise here because they sell everything they can make. But they are good people with a great line of products.

Jerry, are you sure you included everything in your disclaimer or did you miss anything? LOL

It stinks when you feel you have to do that just because there are people who will accuse you of trying to pimp a product. Thanks for your info anyway.

I think this is the key. I've seen ferrules that looked and acted a lot like Teflon. There are plenty of idiot pool equipment suppliers out there -- you need look no farther that the typical metal bridge head.

I also use Tweeten. I do all prep by hand. Tweeten allows me time to center the tip, unlike a superglue. And it fills in the gaps. If I mess up I can take the tip off and redo it, without ruining an expensive tip.

The downside is allowing 24 hours to dry. Although my last tip job dried for 5 hours before I trimmed, burnished, and shaped it.

That's funny... lol Good tips, by the way

I use the two part 5 minute epoxy that you mix together, but you do have to let it sit an hour and a half before trimming the tip. I've never had one pop off using it. Just get the one with the highest rating number.
