What would you do here??

Me, not being a great (or aggressive) shotmaker, would hit the 3-ball on the left side a half-ball hit, medium/light speed with low/left english and try to get the cueball to carom off the 5 and 4-ball (keeping it in THAT area) while sending the 3-ball to the long rail (the one at the top of the CueTable pic) and try to keep it around the second diamond.

I know that this is a wuss-out shot in many eyes, but I could not shoot this shot to pot the ball with any confidence.

I would try to place 3 the near the 4 or 5 ball by hitting it soft on the right side. Bar table safes are definitely hard and tricky. Maybe one other way of playing this shot is to thin it very thin on the right side with outside and leave the cueball down table. It would depend on the cloth and the rails really.....

I like playing off the side of the 3, going long with the cue ball into 3 or 4 rails, and trying to get behind the 8. The 9 doesn't appear to be in the way.

Had this shot come up last night. What would you do here? Barbox tournament, playing for the hotseat, 6-5 race, you are down 4-0.
(forget about page 2, I got ahead of myself)

I would hit the left half of the 3 and try and freeze him to the back of the 5.

The corner pocket is HUGE for a scratch on that shot. On a bar box it's like hitting the cue ball toward a 5 gallon bucket.

Thin the rigth side of the three ball and go two or three rails and try to get behind the 8 ball, maybe coming in front of the 8 and then behind it.

hmmm

what is wrong with a little "1P" shot, and hiding the cue ball on the short rail behind the 4 an 5 ? The 3 ball goes up near the long rail. I'm more of a "less" is more kinda guy, though. Seems simple enough, but maybe I'm missing something here ??

4-0?

I disagree. That's a fairly common track that you must know, even on a bar table. You're shot is much more difficult - it requires a stun hit on the 3. That's a tough safety.

I thought about that but with the angle he has on the three it will be a little tougher than you think to get the 3 ball back up table and hold the CB behind the 4 and 5. If your speed is off even a little, you just sold out the 3.

Where as if you thin the right side of the 3 there is allot more forgiveness if your speed isn't spot on. Just make sure to put a half tip of right on whitey so you dont scratch.;)

You got two blockers there...maybe u play it safe....and it doesnt matter what the score is u should always play the right shot..just saying..:D

Page 3 is what I did. I played the safe. As usual, when I play a safe, I get it stuck to me. Page 4 shows what he did. The lines aren't real accurate, but he kicked at it with english, made the 3 cross side, and ran out from there. Next game he breaks and leaves the 9 on the lip of the head end corner pocket with the one 6" away and a open shot on the one. Oh well, after that I did beat Kirkwood and came in second. edit- for some reason, wei table is acting up today.??? This only shows what he did. But you can see the safe I played. I thought I had a good safe. Wrong again.
...
I might try playing on the left side of the 3 with lots of right side trying to kill the cue ball behind the 4/5. It would take new/slippery cloth.

But your graphic came out like the following. I guess that Wei would like more people to visit his site.

I think most people on here forget the dynamics or difference between a bar table and 9 footer....

My first look....hit 3-ball thin on right hand side....hair of check english if
you think you need it.
You got the 4-5-6-9 as hooking balls and if you fail to get the snooker,
you leave very little.

That's kinda what I was trying to describe in post #2. But sadly. I usually AM missing something here :(.
