What's with the popularity contest?

Popularity contest? No contest to it. Some folks are popular and others are not. Stick around and find out why. But I can tell right now that you are not going to be popular.

I personally suggest you start another acount and make a thread about SVB or post a nasty picture of a hooker from florida that you took a picture of!! that will get you a good rep.

The irony is that cincyman is desperately trying to form his anti-clique clique and is working on alliances with this post! :D

It's a tough crowd !

And one thing is for sure.... If you are a non-conformist or approach things differently or voice your opinion contrary to the "norm" mentality then you are a target for ridicule and termination if possible !

I have always found on here that there really is no "norm" mentality. You NEVER know when someone is going to disagree with you. It's sort of a crapshoot. Put your opinion out there, spin the wheel, and see what you get! I have been surprised by some of the disagreements I have seen on here (and been involved in)... Sometimes you think you have a good rapport with someone and then out of nowhere you are in heated battle... or someone you think doesn't like you gives you a really sweet rep message out of nowhere. I think it's a very interesting environment, and certainly wouldn't classify it as predictable. But either way, no matter what the argument... unless you get totally out of control, I find most people have a "no harm done" outlook when it's all over.:)

I changed my avatar since you posted. The girl on my left was by herself in the avatar before. I'm the dork on the right and she was my all time favorite girlfriend. She moved back to Thailand to help her family as her dad is dying. I miss her so much.

So your post has been forgotten. I don't get to sit at the cool table.

Wow, Luxury, I thought you were a female. Now I am learning you are a male. It makes no difference, but it is amazing how avatars can form opinions -- or images, I should say. :p

no wonder you were so nice to me if you thought I was that adorable thai girl. I have treated her nicer than any other girl ever. I had an image of you in my head when someone was calling you old and then I looked at your myspace and you looked way better. LOL

Interesting how no response by the OP to his thread . . .

Anyway , I did see a couple points of his then I went at looked at the thread in question :

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=86154

Only to find out this it was in regard to a conversion cue using a supplied blank and then our lovely OP launched into an assault on all cue makers who don't manufacture every part of a cue because he's 'way' above that , even when requested buy the customer to use the supplied blank. Not to mention that the "Praise" he was so offended by consisted primarly of "nice looking cue so far".

So yeah , your not the kind of person I want in my clique anyway so have a great day somewhere else. :)

Hey guys-

I'm a newly registered user but have been hanging around watching and viewing.

Finally, I decide I had to register just to express some opinions on things I see that I feel are very wrong.

My question is this, If this is supposed to be a forum on cues and cue building, why do I often feel as if I'm back in high school? There seem to be many cliques and a few "cool" kids...I mean guys, that can do no wrong.

For instance, I see guys posting gorgeous cues, great design, great craftsmanship, no glue lines, great points, awsome clear...practically flawless. 500 people look at it and only 10 say anything. Meanwhile, one of these big name guys post some "rent cue" and everyone goes wild over it...what's the deal??

Please be more specific. who is it that made great cues that didnt get any comments. who was the big name guy.

actually this forum is for just about everything billiards related and some things that aren't. not just pool cues and such. i've noticed the az'rs on here that could do no wrong. no matter what they do or say everyone always says something like "oh he's a good guy, you're a jerk for saying that"

i just say what i think and try to ignore the rest

Most forums are a collection of EGOS - there are a few really good postings
and if you notice these people don't post often but when they do it is a good post/thread - for me the best ones usually have a feed to an instructional site/video - don't let any so called "cliques" bother you - if you see something you want to comment on or start a thread then do it.

I feel a lot older than I am sometimes! :D

AND makeup is a girl's best friend! I never leave home without it on the tournament trail! :p

At home, I never wear it. In fact, you don't realize how much you love being at home until you follow the pool tournament trail for about 7 years. You learn to click your heels three times and say, "There's no place like home." :)

Living out of a suitcase sucks.

I predict azbilliards members will one day become a very large cult with jay helfert as the cult leader.

One part of the deal is that this isn't the cue builder's forum.

I am always surprised by the 'clique' posts.. the thought just never occurs to me here. I realize now that it would only matter to people who come here 'needing' a specific result from the forum, whether it be promotion of their product or praise for their work. I can't imagine a reason someone would even consider the cliques here unless that were the case.

If you're coming here to get something in return aside from entertainment or general pool knowledge, then you will have to learn how to navigate public waters.. it's the same here as everywhere else.

If you're so disheartened by the reality of cliques in any social gathering, then you're probably fairly niave in your walk of life.

If you think making up a pseudonym and posting your generalized judgement of a public forum serves ANY good purpose, or actually might influence a social structure, then you're VERY niave.

If you're amused at all by the negative responses to your thread, you might be a redne.. er.. TROLL.

Gwen here's the deal.. I wanted to ignore you, but you had to start this stupid thread (jmo).....you call it what you want clique, circle, incrowd etc. etc. etc. Well Gwen dear I call it a bunch of pool freaks getting together and hanging out...I myself have met a lot of exceptional people on this forum, and on top of that I have learned a ton in the short time I've been here...AZB is by far the best place in the world for pool related information (imo)...and I'm addicted :D ...I have no idea why you would start a thread like this...it's negative, and a waste of time. Gwen started this thread after she/he made some very complimentary comments on my thread in the cue gallery  ..It's a great positive read..starting @ post 26...Enjoy..

In my opinion....

As far as her thread being negative and a waste of time is concerened, "I object !"

AZ forums has demonstrated time after time that negativity is a common denominator when considering the broad spectrum of members and they're personal opinions regardless whether it's "supportive or objective"...

Although her thread may be unappealing it's definitley warranted due to the behavior we have all witnessed on here, especially with my controversial threads and the few "cool kids" that thrive off of negative retorts and thread-bashing due to their childlike mentality !!!

She is just speaking her mind and giving a fair assessment of the general behavior demonstrated by quite a few members "including myself" that have been acting like school kids and not mature cuemakers and business owners !!

Just becasue it's negative based, doesn't make it less viable and even though it's doesn't contain a shred of positve context, it is still her "opinion" regardless of how shallow or deep it is perceived and she should not be persecuted for stating how she feels !!!

After all "forums" are discussions with opinions that should contain a certain factual basis.... SO WHAT MAKES THIS FORUM ANY DIFFERENT ???

I personally don't see the need to qualify yourself to be able to make a viable post.... I think it's silly becasue you are removing the observation aspect completely out of the equation, and who's to say just becasue someone doesn't post on a regular basis that it makes them less creditable??? afterall some members who have been on here for several years choose not to post due to the amount of fire they may undergo just becasue they aren't a regular and are respected as far as the "pecking order" is concerened....

Of course I just put my neck on the chopping block becasue I chose to point out some obvious scenariors and are showing neutral support to "GWEN" and are not scolding her, so I'm sure I will be subjected to stoning and slander because I stated my opinion as well... but I do find it a little "funny" how people don't want to hear anything that is contrary to thier own beliefs without taking it way too personal ! "perhaps I'm a little guilty of that too".... it's sucks to be human sometimes !!!!!

Sincerely, Eddie Wheat :)
