Anyone out there, please help me. In Indiana I only know:
1. George Breedlove
2. Jeanette Lee
3. Tom Rossman
4. Brian Gregg (just based on his DCC performance)

Who else should be on this list? Where does Satman rank?? Help me (I need to know who to duck).

You don't have to worry about me as far as gambling because I very rarely ask anyone to play. As far as my playing ability goes in tournaments, I've beat some top notch players and I'm not a person who will quit even if someone gets me down. George has always been one of my favorite players and I've managed to beat him a couple of times over the years, but I have no desire to match up with him. I do LOVE to play in ring games and will play with about anyone that wants to play at tournaments. Sam

Best advice about who to duck in Indiana, if you don't know em, don't play em unless it's real cheap and you can afford to lose it. Theres lots of sharks swimming out there.

I have never heard of Big arm John. Is he the "Big John", that was on the road with George, C.J. Wiley, Dave Matlock at various times? I have heard also of a "Concrete John" from Kentucky - this is getting very confusing.

It's the same guy WBM.

Thanks Tony & Hemicudas. I've played in the Chalkies tournament a few times (got stomped twice, then finished 3rd and 1st the last 2 times - handicap is too low). I'm not able to get there every week, but I'm going to try to play in the qualifiers if I can this Summer (though I really wish they would play on the 9 foot tables). I'll look up all the players named Tony next time (I don't think we've played). I'm not actually looking for people to duck, I try to play as many better players as I can (only way to improve, though sometimes a little costly).

Also some of the straight pool fanatics are thinking of having a straight pool league at Chalkies this Summer (we would put out flyers ahead of time).

Willie,Ive got a list of the dates for the qualifiers if you need. What was your handicap by the way? I agree it would be nice to play on the 9 footers, but i dont get out much so ill take whatever i can get.lol I agree playing better players is a way to make yourself better.Im stinking to strickly tourney play for a minute, till i get some bills paid off or win Hoosier Millionare.lol

Im not a straight pool player, but if its on a decent night, I may try it.Let me know more when you find out about it.

Thanks Tony. I already have a list of the qualifiers. My handicap is 4, I haven't been back since I won so it will probably go up. Its interesting how these things work. I told Mike H. when I started that I was not quite as good as Steve D. (who plays as a 6, but has won 3 times, probably needs to be a 7); and Jeanette beats me like a red-headed stepchild. Mike made me a 4 and I got stomped the first 2 tournaments. I told him he didn't need to lower me (my job occasionally requires me to be up all night on Tuesdays, and I was pretty well shot by the Wednesday night of the tournament), but he did anyway, to a 3. I finished 3rd with a 3 so he raised me back to a 4 where I won the last tournament. I think I'm probably a 5 or 6; on a good day I think I can compete with the sixes - I'll probably make more spectacular shots than them (I'm into degree of difficulty), but they are better shooters and tacticians. Just an example of the trials and tribulations of a handicapped league. My break, however is a 2 - worst in the league - if I didn't hate 9 ball so much I would probably spend the time to fix it (I have my own 9 foot table) :) . I really love playing, and I'm glad the tournament is low on obnoxious @#$holes (though there may be one - not named Tony).

Yeah I won last week as a 5 so I may go up to a 6.I got lucky against Everett to start off and that luck helped me all the way to the finals.I havent had the pleasure of playing Jeanette yet.Hopefully one day so i can watch and learn. This week will only be my 3rd time playing. But i like it, I usally bring my fiancee as my good luck charm.lol She cant make it this week so i may be in trouble.

Tony, You talking about Everett Snow? If so. Thats who I played in the BCA Masters 8ball finals. He had me down 7-2 going to 9 and I managed to come back and win 9-8. We had alot of runouts that set. He's a very under-rated player in my opinion. Let me know the dates and maybe I'll come down and visit you guys. Sam

By the way, do you play in the BCA Valley leagues?

Sam,
Yep I was refering to Everett Snow.He is a very strong player. He got out of his car came in screwed together and before I could say hello I was down 2 racks.lol It wasnt that quick but it felt like it.He plays as a 7 in the Chalkies tourney.I only had to win 3 games to his 5.I got lucky and won 3-4.The normal Chalkies tourney is on sunday starts around 1:00.They are having a summer series that has a 30.00 entry fee approx the end of each month starting next week.It leads to a big tourney in August.

I dont play in any leagues right now.I had thought about starting back but im not sure.I got tired of the APA league rather quick when I lived in va.I never did try the BCA leagues.Ive been here almost 3 years but i really dont get out as much as i like.Maybe I will try them in the future.
Did you win the Indiana BCA 8 Ball or nationals?

Indiana, It was a couple of weeks ago. The tournament was in Muncie for the first time. I also won the Open 9ball. Next week I'll be in Ft. Wayne, In. at Billy and Mickeys. It's an open 9ball tournament and usually pays around $4,000 for first place. I've gotten third a couple of times and second once. The time I got second I played Rudolpho Luat in the finals. Billy's tournament starts on Sat. at noon. Sam

Thought that was Jimmy Sanders. Use to run with Buddy Hall.
Jimmy lives in east texas and the last time i saw him play he was still hittin em real good. In the early 70's when he was in Shreveport and was tutored by Buddy he was subject to bust anybody on the big table.

And, sorry to be right back, but...

Did you see that Pookie beat Mike Davis 7-0 in last weekend's Planet-Pool event? Crazy game, this pool!

California is too big to breakdown a top five. The tournaments I play, there are ten top players in every event, and they are often different players all together. Plus, I think we should look at this from a residence perpective where alot of players in California come and go, and are not necessarily Californian's.

So in my opinion, here is a short list of a very large list -

No. Cal. (only)
Kim Davenport
Rafael Martinez
Billy Palmer
Tony Chohan
Amar Kang
George Michaels
Chris MacDonald
Tony Annigoni
Josh Palmer
Roger Estelle
Robert Aldana
Joey Gebron
Gene Ventura
Ronnie Allen
Danny & Nick Cano
Dave Piona
Larry Evans
Jason Williams
Haun Chung

I have probably missed another dozen or so, but California is a large state and this list only covers the northern part.
