Who makes STIFF hitting cues ??? Mike Bender ???

somewhat relative in terms of feel...
Firm/Stiff hits:

(of course) early Franklin SW's,
Omega's/DPKersenbrock's,
Szamboti's (G.)
(M.) Bender's,
Mottey's,
Tascarella's,
Sugartree's,
surprised that no one has mentioned W. 'Woody' Woodworth...

I am really surprised people keep mentioning Keith Josey... I love the way his cues hit, but neither of the ones I played with were on the far end of stiff spectrum.

Guys,
He is asking for a stiff hitting cue on a regular basis. Definitely SW, ST, Bluegrass and do not forget Dave Kikel. I got one from Jamie yesterday and oh my gosh. What an awesome hitting stiff monster.
It is even stiffer than the 2 ST I had. I am somewhat sold on the hit of a SW, Bluegrass, ST and my awesome Kikel.
Worminator still has a few for sale. I like the radial pin better from Dave Kikel.

Hi Benfica, Have you got a pic of the radial pin in the Kikel? I'm curious if it is the same as the one in mine. I have a brass radial and Dave said they are one of the older radial pins.

Damnit Lenny You Stole My Avitar. Lol

I Think Any Maker Can Make A Stiff Hitting Cue. Depends On Materials Used. Ive Had Some Penci Thin Cues That Hit Very Stiff

I heard a guy named Dennis Searing make a pretty stiff cue:grin-square:
Also checkout Jensen, or Southwest

This thread is so ambiguous. I have played and owned several of the cues that are described as stiff and felt they were not. My Kikel and a Lambros I sold to ribdoner both come to mind. I guess it shows how different cues are not matter who the builder is..

i would say kikel and lambros are medium stiff cues with the lambros being slightly stiffer, but i wouldn't really call either of them a stiff cue.i think for a stiff hitting cue brand new that is playable Wes Hunter and Cory Barnhart come to mind, but i agree with you that people have different ideas of stiff.i think lots of people have a tendency to call a hard hitting cue stiff when really it just hits hard.

when i made the deano prottype i attepted to make it stiffer than any cue i had ever seen, most people told me that it was.it is by far the best playing cue i ever played

Hey Joey do you think age as well as the the old growth wood is a factor?
Probably.
But, if you make the whole cue at one angle ( about half a degree ) , it'll hit stiff.
Nowadays, MOST want "pro-taper" shafts. As in no taper the first 12 inches of the shaft or so.
So nowadays if you have a shaft taper of 2MM in 12 inches, that would be considered stiff imo.
Also the way the butts are tapered make a huge difference. The less flex you have in front of the grip hand. the stiffer the cue is, imo.

i wouldn't say it's the best i've ever played with. but it played as good or better than a lot of cues i've tried.

lots of those old sneakies get huge fast a couple feet past the tip, probabaly why they are stiff.

2mm in the first 12 is definitely stiff,that is a bear of a shaft.Kers taper is a little over 1mm first 12.

................

Any builder can build a stiff hitting cue. Building the hit a customer wants is the hard part. Custom cue means fit to the customers needs.

IMO Tell the builder what hit you want or let the builder build the cue to what they think hits the best.

I think it's imposible to make every cue hit exactly the same.

I would have to say Billy Webb, Billies cue are equal to any on the market for a stiff hit. They have a Parabolic or double tapered forearm, that DPK started using in the 1970's. This taper is the same used by SW, Bender, and many other cue makers. Many think this style taper, provides the most consistent stiff hit that is possible. Billies cues are reasonable priced, and below is a recent review from a fellow AZ Member who bought ones of Billies cues from me.

If you are interested send me a PM with your email address, and I will send you prices and photo's. I still have a few six point cues and a couple of Butterfly cues on hand.

Good Night

yes i had a madden with a parabolic taper, it produced a great stiff hit

Just got a Paul Mottey. Steel joint Hoppe. Stiff solid hit. Feels like my old Szam. Looks like it too. This guy makes a great cue.

Not Woodworth. Friggin NOODLE!

I have a Diveneys with g-10 pins and I feel they are 'stiff'. I have the regular shafts but hear the lakewoods are signiificantly stiffer.

Maybe you need a graphite cue?
