Who will win? Earl Strickland vs Efren Reyes January 14-16, 2014

I think Efren wins, because Earl of late, hardly puts it all together to go the distance anymore. He usually malfunctions somewhere along the way.

I'm a fan of both shooters, but I don't see earl taking this one. As someone said before I see a malfunction with him possibly before the first set is over. He's too amp'd up lately, gets out there and just goes wild. Don't get me wrong, he's a dead straight shot and could accurately keep up with a 7 second shot clock, but it's that one ball.... that one ball that doesn't drop, and wobbles the pocket. Right then, Earl starts his mental breakdown which will eventually turn into an outburst. Maybe nothing too extreme, but more than likely enough to put him in a different frame of mind, and costing him the tournament.

That's just my opinion of the situation, who knows he might buckle down and send Reyes home broke.

.Earl has the best of it in all games.

I think Earl wins 2-1 with Efren picking up the win in 8 ball as I feel it is the game he can out move Earl in.

There's hardly any "moving" on the 10' table....Earl has the best of it in all games.....even one pocket on the 5/10 .....Efren's game suffers {on the 5/10} because his weakness is long, stroke shots......Earl knows this and will put them to the test quite a bit I'd predict.

I haven't seen enough of Efren to judge his current speed, but I have watched Earl play quite a bit recently.

From what I've seen, Earl can STILL HANG and BEAT ANY of the TOP players in the WORLD when he is ON.

If he can stay ON, then I would have to say Earl is in NO WAY an underdog to ANYBODY.

If he maintains his composure throughout the event, then I think Earl will prevail.

Wish I could go watch this.
I saw the Shane/Earl match on the 10'er. And If I remember correctly in that match Earl never had to use a bridge at all. I can't remember exactly how many racks the played (race to 100/10-ball) maybe 175-180? But anyway that's pretty good in my eyes. Now I'm sure his saquoia cue helped in accomplishing that & will be a slight advantage again, I'm sure. Should be an interesting & fun match.

I was in Steinway about a week ago and spoke to Earl about this match...of course, he claims he'd be VERY surprised if he loses to Efren at this point, on this table, in those games. I agreed with him, as I said his eyes aren't what they used to be, and he would probably have some trouble with long cut shots or stroke shots on the 10 footer...Earl said no, the problem with Efren is that he's not in physical shape to grind it out on the 10 footer, and that nerves would get him. Not sure I agree with that, but I agree Earl should have him in all the games...even 8 ball. Earl is an extreme shot maker; there's only so many places you can hide in pattern games and Earl will still get out. Plus, it's Earl's table--he knows it better than anyone. Efren wins if he puts Earl on tilt, which he could do with a couple of good safeties, rolls or spectacular shots...which he does better than anybody and makes it kind of a crap shoot.

... three days of this followed by 3 days of Dennis and Daz ... make for a good week :grin-square:

I was there last night watch Efren and Earl play in the regular Monday night tournament at Steinway and they were both shooting pretty badly, both losing to regular locals.

But with that being said, Earl practices on the 10 footer every single day and is still actively competing on a higher level and more regularly than Efren, plus he's at home. So I got my money on Earl 2 out of 3 sets. Efren might bully him in 8-Ball but definitely not in the rotation games.

Got my shaft signed by the Magician last night :grin-square:

I finally got on but the stream quality is so choppy it's almost unwatchable. Shoulda figured with Inside Pool doing it. I don't usually complain about their stream quality because they usually do it for free, but I expect a watchable event if I'm paying for a stream.

Efren plays against the Ghost in 15 ball rotation for practice on the tightest Gold Crown on the planet, and runs out regularly, stomping the Ghost beneath his chubby pinoy hoof.

I actually like Earls chances in 8 ball rather than 9 or 10 ball.

Should be good. Wish I had the money to spare so I could watch it.

I still can't get on, get no reply from emails to JRCalvert.
