I think you are all without a clue.

While I don't completely understand the circumstances it appears to be terribly unsportsmanlike and disrespectful to the host country, sponsors, organizers, etc. How would you feel if you went back through an interview where a foreign player was being interviewed following a match at the US open and was being interviewed and began to say 'Suck my xxxx, Suck it, Come on, Just a little taste' in Filipino?

I mean come on...watch the vid.. it isnt like he is yelling at somebody or being agressive in anyway...

It sounded worse in print ..but once you watch the link I poste you see it was a joke...

Its a Much Ado About Nothing. He is a bit disrespectful but so what we all have our moments. Like Ronnie says "I'm a Human". Its good to see the Brits not always portrayed as stuffy uptight and civil. They can be crass like anyone else. I mean after all we're all Human.

Raunchy Ronnie in trouble over lewd comments in Beijing

Snooker is often billed as a gentleman's sport and, as we all know, two crucial characteristics for being a gentleman include being gracious in defeat and showing impeccable manners. Or so we thought. Apparently Shanghaiist's interpretation of gentlemanly behaviour differs somewhat from that of China's Today Morning Express, after they reported that Ronnie O'Sullivan "kept his gentlemanly manners" during a post-match press conference at Beijing's China Open snooker tournament this week. Having watched the video embedded here (following a tip from Shanghaiist reader Rob), where the Essex-born potter repeatedly makes lewd references and compares his microphone to his penis, we're not sure we entirely agree with the Express' assessment.

While O'Sullivan's inappropriate comments and suggestive handling of the microphone might have gone unnoticed and unreported by the Chinese press, his behaviour has landed him in trouble with Snooker's governing body and has been widely reported in the British papers who, let's face it, love this sort of thing. Chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, Sir Rodney Walker, didn't find O'Sullivan's attitude quite so amusing however and moved swiftly to condemn the player's behaviour:

"The matter has been referred to the disciplinary committee and is under review. On behalf of World Snooker, I have apologised in person today to the promoter of the China Open. I would also like to send my apologies to the people of China for any offence that may have been caused."

O'Sullivan, who once stated that he didn't like playing in China because "they don't speak English", was (reluctantly) answering questions via a translator following his 5-4 defeat to Marco Fu in the first round of the China Open. Despite claiming that he "tried very hard", this is not the first time that 'The Rocket' has crashed out in the first round in China following a lacklustre performance and he was not the only big name who seemed happy to collect their appearance fee and leave ? Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis joining Graeme Dott in exiting early on as well.

Maintaining a good image in China is seen as crucial to snooker's governing body having steadily built the sport's popularity in the country on the back of homegrown star Ding Junhui. The apparent lack of interest from some of the sport's star attractions has already been causing headaches for the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association and it's fair to say that O'Sullivan's comments will have done little to help matters. It might not be a scandal of Edison Chen proportions, but it's probably as close as snooker will get for a while.

I agree with you 1000%.

I would also like to see Quentin Hann take a SERIOUS stab at the tours over here - if he generates half as much attention and excitement in competition as he does in this forum, then only good can come of that. Despite what many may think about his comments and actions, I believe that Quentin understands what to do to attract attention to this game - and he also knows how to get people excited and talking about what he's saying and doing.

If they do take disciplinary action against Ronnie, I think it would be silly. His demeanor was playful and silly, and you can tell he wasn't trying to intentionally offend anybody. I just don't see why this is such a big deal.

well just to clarify i have never been accused or charged/convicted of any match fixing only talking of it :(

no way ronnie would match fix his family have alot of money he has alot of money, but beside that he would be one player i dont think would ever throw a match although it comes across as he sometimes does not respect snooker really he does.

also i doubt the watch deal is worth 6 figures but if anyone would get a deal that big it would be ronnie as he is easily the most popular player over there by far.

as for ronnie coming over here dont worry that will never happen his brain is so programmed for snooker he would never be that good on the american tables also it would kill him when he gets beat by hacks which would happen. i saw it happen in vegas and although he was the only pro i never beat at snooker part of me did not like watching him struggle as he is the purest snooker player to watch a real freak who i think is the best snooker player ever, i dont care if other players have won more

also i could not stop laughing that was some of the funniest shit i seen in a long time what is it with ronnie and his dick in china but thats another story
 
Ronnie was paid a handsome appearance fee by the IPT for his participation so unless someone else does the same, forget about him coming back

Regardless of what any of us might think of what he did the reality is that there isn't any question of "if" he gets a ban......the only questions are how long the ban will be and whether the manic depressive within himself will allow him to shrug it off and return to active duty after the ban......or if he will instead head off further down the self destruct route indicated by his now apparently permanently itchy and sensitive nostrils.
 
I admire Ronnie as the best Snooker player I've ever seen. I don't know squat about his personal problems. Prior to this, I had heard once that he had walked off during a match and had been fined etc.

That having been said, when a player we love to watch and who's game we respect obviously is beset with problems, either mental or due to drugs or whatever, it's very sad and we need to have compassion, but the governing bodies cannot tolerate or overlook that type of ungentlemanly behaviour.

The mere fact that so many people here find it funny explains why pool can't get sponsors. We are perceived as being from the dark side. Obviously the days of play in tuxedos is past, but when an English speaking player represents his country in a foreign tourney he has an image as a role model etc to project, no matter whether he wins or loses, is tired or depressed. They have to punish him and I hope that he learns from it and thinks about why they did...Tom
 
Im assuming that Ronnie was making a little fun at the expense of someone in the audience, a young woman perhaps, who wouldnt be able to understand his language. He should really be careful as for many cultures its being disrespected that is the most egregious. Ask Edson Chen who is reported to have 2 contracts out on him. One on his life and one to sever his hand. Ask Jet Li who had to hide out in Shanghai for a while to let things cool down when he unruffled some feathers.
Ten years ago I went to China to work. The CEO of the company offended some guys in Hong Kong and told them to EFF themselves. When we got back from Beijing they caught him in an elevator and shot him dead.
Of course this is at the extreme end but if that young woman was connected in some way to some Big Bosses Ronnie would not have liked his appearance at the airport. I dont think it was a big thing but you do have to be careful when you are a guest in somebody else's house.

are you mad you think he will get banned i dont think so?

he has bitten a tournament directors lip in fight never got banned.
smoking pot and handed back trophy never got banned.
walked out of a tv match at 4-1 down first to 9 never got banned. withdrawn out of tournaments he does not like never got banned.
and now said suck my ____ in press conference wont get banned

although a short ban could get snooker more headlines in uk and might not be a bad thing for game, but i doubt wsa will risk there no 1 cash cow out of the game for too long. the game is in bad enough shape as it is.
