Why no location shown??

I am curious why so many posters are so reticent about showing their location.

I can understand it if this was a firearms forum but we are all pool players and I do not think someone is about to steal our tables.

Yes, I understand cues are transportable but you can always put the valuable ones in a 'gun' safe.

When someone is asking for help or advice it would be more approiate to at least show your state if you hesitate about sharing your city/town location.

Just curious I guess.

I started a thread many moons ago about the same topic....it died quickly.
Everyone has there own reasons for wanting to keep under the radar and thats cool. What would be cool is if it was easier to locate peeps in your region.

No, their tables won't get stolen, but some members have many, many thousands of dollars worth of collectible cues. Too many to be locked up in a safe. I can understand their reasoning for not wanting their location shown. The more information a crook has to work with, the easier it is for him/her to perpetrate a crime.

On top of that, some people are just private by nature. Nothing wrong with that.

I think it is bs for people not tell at least what state they are on.
There is even people on AZ that are very negative and when they are called out do not identify themselves.
At least it would be nice to know for real what their name is and state their live.
You have nothing to fear? Then update your location and start behaving like a person.
Just saying... Hey!!! Merry Christmas :)

In my opinion it doesn't fit the agenda of many who post to INTERNET Forum's and for others there is a concern for their safety. I am new to the INTERNET thing myself, I never posted to a forum before 2005 and this forum was my first exposure to forum life or existence depending upon how you look at it.

I have always used my real name in conjunction with my chosen user name, and if I knew what I know now when I first started posting I may have not ever listed my real name. It seems that for some these forums give them a credibility that they have never had in real life, we all know people who just can not express themselves very well when dealing with others in public. Some have had to drink, other have had to get high, and then came the INTERNET, a place where anyone can remake themselves and participate in a discussion they never would have publicly before.

For some people this is a great place out your thought's and it helps those with a lonely life style that they live for what ever reason, for others it is an escape from the daily grind, for still others it is a way to learn and exchange information on subjects that they enjoy, and for the final group, it allows them to be something they are not, sometimes this is good for everyone and sometimes it can be dangerous.:(

We have all met or had exchanges with the key board warrior's or Trolls. In almost all cases these people do nothing but create drama for their personal enjoyment what ever that may be, in most cases this is harmless and in others you just never know what may come from the personal attacks that ensue. Not everyone who posts to these forums is of sound mind and with all that is wrong with our world today you never know if the next knock on your door is going to be the mail man or a friend or some psychopathic individual who may be hurt because of an exchange on line.

I don't blame anyone for not posting their name and personal information on line, like I said above you just never know and it is better to be safe than sorry!!!!;)

I am not asking to post personal information. I was just saying for people to be honest with themselves and at least a name and location, that is not enough to go after somebody and that is not the intent.

Why do you even care that people post where they are from? If they want people to know where they are from, they will post it, if not, leave them be.

A lot of us live in our cars and are not doing well financially.
Where are you located .........buddy? {Use Paulie Shore's voice on buddy}

seb1899-

Internet security and identity are becoming more and more an important issue. Privacy is all but gone as we knew it and getting worse. With a little digging, you can find out just about everything you need to know about a person.

Security is a scary thing these days. The less information people give out on the internet the better in my opinion.

People have posted where and when they are going to be somewhere on facebook and then their houses are robbed. OnStar can listen to your conversation in your car without you knowing it. A school recently loaned laptops to their students to take home, and then activated the cameras. The government monitors every call coming into the us searching for keywords. Google has amassed huge amounts of data about individuals, their browsing and buying habits and tendencies.

Big brother is scary, but little brother might be scarier in some situations.

I prefer to give my info on a need to know basis even on a small forum such as AZ.

P.S. my location is 98.226.115.15 :)

I just kinda forget about adding it in the profile. I've mentioned my location in threads often enough, what's the diff, at least for me, right? :embarrassed2:

I guess I kinda agree that at least the state would be nice, but it doens't bother me if that info isn't there.

Off to update my profile! :p

Your a social butterfly though...

I don't see what it matters. Would you feel better if those that didn't list a location just randomly filled in that section with some other information? I have Boston, MA listed but if I was paranoid I could list Boston, MA while living in Las Vegas ... who cares?

Gotta go, I'm heading off to the casinos. Err, I mean, gonna go get some Boston baked beans!

This doesn't make sense to me.

Advice asked for or provided here on azb doesn't seem to have an enhanced quality when the person posting gives their location.

Am I missing something?

I have done a number of deals on here that required providing my home address. No big deal. However, I don't choose to list my location on every post I make as a matter of privacy. That shouldn't be a big deal to anyone, either, IMO.

I am aware of a few instances of, well, I guess you'd have to call it stalking, that originated right here on azb.

No one should be made to feel uncomfortable if they choose not to make their location public. And if anyone has a problem with this, they can come meet me at the Coop DeVille! :p

Best,
Brian kc

Yeh, like Manwon said, it might be for the Mr. Lonley's of the world! Sometimes I get so lonely I could eat the back lights off a dump truck! For some folks it would also just be more fodder for their name calling. Stupid Okie!. Damm Yankee!. I actually enjoy the annomimity as it becomes a puzzle for people to solve. Had several folks figure the puzzle out and we pm'd the details, all based on places and names dropped.

I don't post my name unless we are meeting or doing business. I think that is ok. I have a unique username and can be found most places by that name online. I do not change it as it is my online identity. I won't post my address publicly, but if you are ever in Utsunomiya, Japan or wherever my location is, pm me for a game. I will give you my phone no as needed by pm.

If somehow you want to steal my possessions, and think you can find me, well...you might want to look for target picks under my username. I'm a pretty good shot under 1000yards! Lol

More to the point, they are just possessions. I still like them though.

Still, I like to post city and state, to encourage people to pm and set up a game. I think most would like that. It's worth the risk to me, like manwon using his name.

i'm in Germany, So now is the time to take a shot at robbing me and getting all the cues. You must be prepaired to deal with my armed guards, dogs and then figuring out how to get to the vault, then into the vault. If someone can get my cues they earned them. Of course I'll put a contract on who ever stole them:thumbup:

Merry Christmas,

The way I look at it, it's too late for me. I've been outed here and everywhere else. I've done all the wrong things to hide my identity; used credit cards online, joined forums like this and been very visible, sent e-mails to everyone and anyone, used an ATM card all over the world, and many other things we're not supposed to do.

The only place I draw the line is having a Debit Card. Never had one, don't want one. If I need some quick cash, I use my ATM card. Other than that I prefer paying cash for everything I can; groceries, commodities, repair work, etc. I do use checks on occasion to pay bills, and credit cards when I travel. I am a little more vigilant about using credit cards in restaurants and at hotels.

When it comes to money matters, I can still be a bit naive. Just look at what happened to me on Paypal last week. Totally unexpected, but I dealt with it. I am far more concerned about matters of personal safety in this day and age. I can deal with credit card theft, they can't and won't make me pay for a lost or stolen card. I know that. I've read the fine print, I'm not liable and I don't need their "protection" plan either, that they try to foist off on everyone.

I still have a poolroom mentality that causes me to be aware of all around me and my surroundings. I can often smell a rat before he raises his head, the situation just doesn't feel right. That sixth sense has saved me more than once from a robbery. I have ample security around my home, and have ways to protect myself when I travel the mean streets. Even at my age, I'm probably better prepared than most.

I guess the bottom line for me, is that if I have a problem with someone, I am not afraid to meet them face to face. Never have been either. I DON'T hide from anybody, I have no reason to. I am not out to harm anyone and I don't owe anyone money. So I don't have to look over my shoulder. I do know that I've had more than one encounter on here that became semi hostile, but that goes with the territory when you call a spade a spade. I don't plan to stop doing that either. Cheers

Yep, I've made fun of an Okie or two on this forum.

BTW, did you know that migrating geese fly upside-down when they go over Oklahoma? It's because there's nothin' worth sh*tt*ng on in Oklahoma :D:D:D.

J/K of course. Merry Christmas to all my Okie friends here on AZB and to each and everyone else too!!!
