World Straight Pool Updates from New Jersey

i hope busty wins

I would not be surprised to see Francisco Bustamante win this event.

So far this year we had Darren Appleton win the DCC Straight Pool Challenge. Who would have slapped some Vcash on Darren to win that?

Then we had Ivica Putnik defeat Ralf Souquet in the Finals of the European 14.1 Championship (nobody saw that coming either).

Right now we have guys like Corey and Busty keeping guys in the chair. I look at it like this - they are great players and they can find a way to win at any game.

I am still sticking with my original pick - Niels Feijen. I would love to see Niels and Mika in the final.

Sounds ok to me! We'll have to call Fast Lenny to find out how to stream it!
Thanks for all the reports tonight!
You filled an information vacuum for a lot of people.

BTW, was there a final for the Robles-Lombardo? I think I read that one was crucial to Tony.

they were taking a break when I left, Tony was shooting and still down but not by much.

First time we dont agree. :grin-square:

Nick vdb VS Ortmann would be a greath final.
Normally i would pick Niels, but this time i picking Nick.

Can't wait till he's back from the states. I finaly found someone capable of giving good lessons and analysing my game and my wife is paying for a weekend 1on1 lesson with nick to improve my game for my 31st bday present  With your book david and nick's lessons, i'll be a killer machine and maybe hit a 50 run in straightpool !! :p

GO nick.

So many good players to pick from.
I have two friends in group 7 so I've been watching Mika a bit and he is playing very nice.

Niels is like a machine, but he's given a few guys an opportunity, most recently Bob Maidhoff who had an easy break shot at 88, overcut it a little and all the balls were open. Niels ran about 20 and out.

Schmidt has had a bad sinus infection all week and is hoping the antibiotics kick in. He's starting to play better.

Nick Van den Berg looks good. Corey, Archer, Danny Harriman, Ortmann, Hohmann- So many great players to choose from.

I may have to just sit back and enjoy.

Guys! Does anybody know when the games go on??? And what te draw will be?
I guess the draw has happened already. I only now that Archer plays Raj at 1.00.

Where are the players?

I understand everyone has to start somewhere but this type of tournament should not be the place.
There are many great players competing in this event and there are players that can't run a rack and get on a break shot. No they were not just having a bad day.
I saw one player when he should have been playing a safe take wild break shots ( Chicago Break Shot ) balls flying everywhere, missing the shot,,,knowing his opponet couldn't run a rack,,,,and the opponet would run a 3.
I saw another player doing the same thing and then some.
He would play safe out to the center of the table letting his opponet shoot only to miss and leave the rack open.

I am not putting down the weaker players as they love to play as much as anyone but they do not belong in this type of event.

Where are the players that should be in these spots?
Why are they not playing?

This tournament is like a record...some great songs but the rest of the songs should be kept on paper.

World Championship?

wow our AZ local boy got Busti. Obviously Bernie is a decent player or he would not have made it this far but to have to face Busti has got to be bad on the nerves. I let that kind of thing distract me and thats why I'm not a pro I guess. Oh there is also the small fact that I have no talent as well but if I did have the talent I would not have the nerves. Did any of this mae sense?? :)

Wow, Calvin Coker is a name I haven't hear in a LONG time. I remember when he was managing the Shark Club in Costa Mesa and went to Diamonds afterwards, great straight pool player for sure. That was maybe 1989 or so, seems like forever ago when I couldn't even spell straight pool, ha ha.

Does anyone know where the money line is and the payouts? Just wondering where everyone cash's at
I think everyone who is left right now is in the $$. I am not sure how much but it may cover a night at the hotel.

in the player's meeting they said the top 32 would be seeded based on how everyone did in the round robin matches, i.e. if you went 7-0 you'd be seeded #1, then someone with a 6-1 record who made 99 balls in his one loss would be #2, and the guy with a 6-1 record and 98 balls in his one loss would be seeded # 3 and so on. So in the top 32, #1 would play #32 first round.

I'm really curious how the seeding worked and who was seeded what going into the top 32!

Anyone interested in doing the math?

I was thinking about going out to NJ Friday, but with it being only a single elimination from here on out, how much pool would be left to play by Friday?

If there are 8 tables, and two morning sessions and two evening sessions, of single eliminations on Thursday, (today) if my math is right, by the end of today only four players will be left on Friday for the entire day.

How badly did I screw up the math? :)
