Scott Lee said:Chris...It was already mentioned that Bustamante won a Camel event (IIRC, in 1996). That tournament had all the top players in the world (at that time), and imo is just as much a 'world championship' as this event.

Blackjack said:I know, especially Busty - I remember when he finished 2nd in the World 9 Ball - just days after the death of his infant daughter - he was somehow able to channel all of that emotion into his game... he is an unbelievably mentally strong player and person. It would be great to see him raise the trophy.
Like I said in my last post, Nick has been playing awesome this week. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull through.
When it comes to 14.1, Niels just isn't human. He is a friggin machine. It would be great to see him win the world title - and if he does, it is too bad Joe Kerr won't be able to see it.
If Jasmin wins, it would be awesome - and it will definitely get widespread media attention. She is a great player and she proves that gender is not an issue in 14.1 - or any game for that matter.

Efren won The IPT World Open - not recognized as an official World Championship, but he pretty much kicked everybody's ass during the IPT - so to me it doesn't matter to me if that is considered official or not.
Francisco was on fire during the Camel Series and played the best pool of his career during that time period.
ShootingArts said:I have to disagree, gender is an issue. I have never been able to understand why it is as large an issue as it is in pool, it seems it wouldn't matter much. However what Jasmin has already done is stellar and if she wins a major men's world pool championship, straight pool or any other, it will be far bigger than any man winning because it is a more significant accomplishment for a female.

The IPT events didn't actually happen. I'm 99% sure the WPA didn't sanction them and no world championships ever existed before the WPA or outside the WPA, this was all just a figment of the rest of our imaginations!![]()

Roy Steffensen said:For the record, 1996 World 9-ball Champion is Oliver Ortmann. He won the World Championship that year. Bustamante can't be reckognized as World Champion just because he won some Camel-event in 1996
Scott Lee said:Sorry Hu, but that is your male ego talking. There is no physical limitation that prevents any woman from playing as well (or better) than any man. Some people mistakenly think that since women are generally not as strong as men, that the break is a problem. It's not...the break is all about timing, and has nothing to do with physical strength. The only consideration is that women have not played as long, against top competition, as the men have. That will be equalized someday. I hope I live to see it.

Scott Lee said:Roy...That's just your opinion. There have been legitimate 'world champions' winning tournaments for more than 40 yrs.

I agree with you that there have been World 9-ball Championships before WPA, but after WPA started to organize them I don't think other tournaments can be called World Championships aswell...
