We all hate to see promoters guaranteeing money and then not paying the players. So my question to all you pool lovers is; if you won the lottery or inherited a ton of money would you give back to this game we love and how would you go about doing it?

I would start a pro barbox tour where the pros play a combination of 8,9, and 10 ball on the bar box. I would try and have at least 15 tournaments a year 5 for each game with each tournament allowing players to earn points and at the end of the year there would be a vote between the top 32 players for what the final tournament would be and it would be true double elimination with everyone in the field making at least 5,000. pay the winner somewhere in the 6 figure range. First place in each of the other 15 tourneys would be at least 50,000.

I have thought about this many times and how I might have say a DCC type event putting up around $50,000 and get sponsors involved for the rest of it making it a yearly event on the West Coast probably in Vegas or here in AZ where I live. I was thinking of other stuff too perhaps something along the lines of a youth program because that is the future of pool IMO. In Asia the kids start out young and grow with the game, get them good/hooked young and they will be pool consumers like other sports. I do not play the lottery so unless I find a briefcase with like 10 million in it then its nice to daydream. :)

Right now I do what I can to help the game and get people interested, its not much but its something. I like live streaming and bringing it to the masses, no real money in it but I never got involved into for that. I am lucky to break even on doing it really and am not sure if I am even doing that. I hope that others will do what they can even if its giving a cue to a young kid and teaching that kid what you can so they can enjoy the game and join our community.

I'm no promoter or tournament maker, just a regular player.

I'll show a young player all I've learned over the last 25years. All he has to do is be willing to listen.

I also make great effort to respect the art of cuemaking when I write

Of course....I already do afterschool program, lessons etc....

The afterschool program is where its at tho IMOP......you get the kids involved and its all downhill from there.

Just look at every other sport.....kids learn when they are very young.

I think its only a matter of time before some hardcore pool player or just someone who loves the game decides to do something to help pool in america. Lenny, Ghost you guys are already beginning the process by doing what you can to help and I bet in the long run its going to something like you guys are doing that sparks the interest of some rich guy and pool starts booming in america.

I would push for pool becoming a high school sport. Offering pool in school would help introduce younger people to the game and get some parents involved too.

i do in my own way. i take time to show anyone who wants to learn how to do whatever i can. i like giving newer players the few tips that i can

I also do my own way, just look at my Signature. Some might not agree with the way I go about it. But it for THe Game!!!!!

I've been doing it for many years. The best way I have given back is through the New england Pool and Billiard Hall of Fame.

I'm now the President.

At the induction ceremony. All the work I do pays heavy rewards just seeing the looks on the faces of the recipients and their loveones. IT'S PRICELESS.

There are thousands that love pool and do their best.

You reference our Live Streamers...how about Tourney Directors, cue makers and our Table Techs?

The prob isn't interest, it is $. Pool needs a benefactor, but the risk would have to have big reward$ to secure one. People that have $ like that do not take a shot at nothing.

Hoping for a benefactor is like hoping a Prince will make you his wife:eek:.

I have actually been thinking about what I can do to give back to the sport lately so it's ironic that this poll was posted. I would love to work with some of the guys on here; whether it be Lenny, Big truck, Accu-stats or TAR. I would love to do some commentary if at all possible. One thing I am doing is holding a charity pool tourn. in northern PA for a friend of my dads who really doesn't have too much longer to live due to cancer. He loves the game of pool and we are doing a tournament/benefit for the cause so I hope I am doing my part to give back to the sport in that sense. Great poll by the way!!

I like this idea. I just heard that in California they are making skateboarding a high school gym requirement and will eventually be a school sport. I think pool should somehow be incorporated with geometry and other kinds of math.

I love the game, but am a working stiff with 3 kids, a wife, and a mortgage. I do okay, but time is limited. I am trying to teach my kids how to play right and have a good time doing it.

Ok, you provide tips to new players. But the real question is : do you tip the staff? :D

of course i do!!!!!!!! you ever been to a pool hall that hired an ugly chick???????

there's a reason businesses hirer pretty girls to work the counter. they're good for business. by that same logic ugly girls are bad for business. sad but true

i bet you're joking but you'd be surprised how many funny things i've heard non californians say they hear about how things are done in cali

Referencing live streamers was just an example of the people already doing something to help the game...truth is I have a ton of respect for anyone doing what they can to improve the game.

The point of the post had nothing to do with hoping for some rich benefactor it was to find out what your average person with a love for the game would do if he/she came into a lot of money

Personally if I won the lottery for 200 million or something I could care less about losing some if were going to improve my favorite game in the long run

If I hit the lottery for a meaningful amount ($75M+) I would make damn sure North Carolina had a WPBA stop every year. I really miss the Carolina Classic.

If I was wealthy I would promote a series of tournaments similar to what KT did, but I'd do one a month, each in a different state, and add $50-$100K to each event (and pay off immediately in cash at each event). Can you imagine how much interest that would generate even just in a couple of years?

I already give back to the sport, in terms of teaching, pro bono appearances at kid's clubs, senior centers, hospitals, etc...plus entertaining and educating college students and military personnel, all over the country, for the past 15 years! I agree with greyghost and marcus, that getting high school kids involved is ground zero, for real growth of our sport.
