I'll go out on a limb here and assume that you mean Scott when you say Steve.....:p

The joint is not ivory, it is flat-faced implex with a 3/8-10 pin. To me it plays a little softer than a piloted ivory joint.

The case is a Fellini that I also bought from Bill with the cue. It is made from what he called "buggy whip" leather. If I remember right, he had some of that leather and had about half a dozen cases made by Fellini from it.

The forearm is stained birdseye maple. Here is a better pictures.

Scott: you hit the nail on the head with your assumption! :D Sorry about that, I was a bit late when I was typing but wanted to finish it and so the name 'Steve' could have gained occurance - I must have had that name on my mind from somewhere else, I guess:confused:
Your package with that case and cue goes beyond all expectations, I assume. Right now I am playing with a friend's cue that has a white implex joint, but with a 5/16-18 flat faced joint, and... that cue races in another league than yours, that league is usually referred to as 'the-league-of-cues-imported-from-overseas-during-the-early-'90s' and that has a tad less grandeur than yours :) I like its feel though :smile-square:

Hi David, questions are always good. Here are the complete specs on my 1965 titlist bushka. :cool:

Rosewood 4 point titlist with brass 5/16x14 piloted joint.

18.40 oz. total weight.
14.55 oz. butt weight.
3.85 oz. shaft weight.

57-7/16" total length.
28-3/8" butt length.
29-1/16" shaft length.

17-7/8" balance point.
13-11/16" wrap length.
11-11/16" forearm length. (top of wrap to top of joint)
3" butt sleeve & butt cap. (Hoppe style butt cap)

.732" joint diameter. (not a typo)
.961" top of wrap diameter
12.67mm tip size.

Walker, that is exactly what I was looking for!!! Also, it is great help for drawing cues as due to your measurements now I know the exact attributes and I don't have to use different geometric tools to get them off of Blue Book pictures!

30 to 40 year old Mali cue

I play with this cue a lot. It has a 11mm tip still streight as an arrow. This is a Mali that had the boxed logo going up and down not sideways. phpgPbhDPPM[1].jpg

Here's my daily player, from 1974. It's the only cue I know, but hits as good as day 1. Everyone that has tried it likes it, although at 20.25 ounces with a large ass, it's on the heavy side for modern cues.

Ohh, it was made by.... perhaps someone influenced by Palmer (Balner). lol

I play with a Josswest 1972 Hoppe cue. 4 ebony points with 4 veneers into Maple. Ebony butt sleeve with an Ivory Hoppe ring. Best cue I have ever played with.

i guess its the age old debate older cues = better wood. maybe? maybe not?

i will say this. if you get a top maker you shouldnt have a problem. one thing i like about the older cues is nothing was "mass produced" back then. everything was made one one by one by hand. maybe machinery wasnt a good. and the glue question is up for debate butdoesnt matter. gotta love the classics

Just get yourself a nice old Burton Spain and be done with it. I would suggest one of his with a more conventional joint.

More seriously... Burton is my favourite, my idol. But you already knew that! :)

When I play somewhere where I would rather not take my Tucker, I have been playing with my ol' battle-scarred BEM/BEM Helmstetter 86-06 wrapless full splice. Just always feels right in the hand...doubt I will ever part with it, even after numerous generous offers. :D
