I am interested in opinions as to who are the best up and coming cue makers and are thought to be good investments. Cues to buy that are most likely to significantly increase in value in the future.

I was away from the game for about 12 years and collected Paul Mottey's and Richard Blacks primarily.

I bought a few Cues from an unknown maker at the time that you may have heard of, LoL! by the name of Richard Harris and his "Blue Grass Cues", the only reason I even heard of him at the time was that he was buying ferrules from a best friend of mine in Cleveland and was shocked as to the increase in value of his work recently. I bought a 6 point snake wood cue for $675.00 and an Ivory joint Bacote cue with Mother of Pearl and Ivory inlays for $675.00 also and now I see these cues are worth in excess of $3500.00 each. I also bought a Paul Mottey Ivory joint cue with a bunch of Ivory inlays for $750.00 that now sells for well over $4000.00.

I have caught the fever again and am looking to buy cues to play with and to also put away for investment and thought I would post this to get some opinions as to which cue makers people think are the best investment for long term value increases.

I also attached a pic of a few of the cues I referenced above, boy I wish I had bought more back in the day when prices were a lot lower than they are now. There are a few Richard Blacks in it also that I bought really cheap.

"If we only knew then what we know now"

Please share your thoughts and opinions as I am sure there are many out there who would like to make a good investment for the future. Personally I will probably never sell mine but would like to leave a good inheritance for someone someday.

Thanks for everyone's time and opinions and if you have any cues that you think I may be interested in please send pics and pricing to my email at shizzy319@msn.com

Thanks again,

Ken

Don't feel bad, I sold a real Balabushka for $55. and 8 years ago I sold a loaded Haley for $700. Also sold the fanciest cue Frank Coster made for $2500. If we only new. A very underated cue maker is Greg Kucharski out of CT. They are beautifully made and fantastic players.

Of course this is just my opinion but once this economy straightens itself out I see anything made by Tony Zinzola going through the roof. I wouldn't say up and coming though.....I think he's already there.

I agree that Tony is an excellent cuemaker. As far as the economy goes what you see now is what you will see for many years to come, of course it can always get worse..

Yep...Zinzola is one of the one's I was thinking of...I think Jim Pierce is also going to make a big "splash" once his cues get into more people's hands to feel how they hit...anytime someone puts down a well-known cuemakers cue (that has a 10 year wait) to play with Jim's cue says a lot!!!

Tony's cues are "up there" in price and I think his construction and designs make them well worth it...once Jim's cues get into the right hands, his prices will go up as well (hopefully not before I get a couple more)...:p

You will get many recommendations on this subject. My advice is to spend some time to do your own research and draw your own conclusions. It's not an easy decision these days... especially with the new makers. There are a lot more makers today than when you left the hobby 12 years ago... I mean A LOT MORE!

Your email address is going to get bombarded, so get ready!!!!

Good luck in your search.

Opinion

Most bang for the buck is a gilbert. His cues play great with a great variety in designs.

Promising cuemakers for investment

Scott Gracio, Steve Klein, Tony Zinzola, Jim Pierce, Darrin Hill, Randy Mobely, Cory Barnhart, Travis Niklis/Blackcreek, Joe Callaluca. I am not as familiar with new cuemakers, Paul.
