Were screw on ferule's really a thing on quality cues at one time??
On a metal pin?
Yes, on a few makes, most notably Palmer I think.
They obviously add end mass, a no-no today.
Screw on a wood tenon? Extremely common. Compression threads were common. Threads cut in the tenon maybe less common. Not sure.
Threading things together for mechanical integrity in addition to adhesives or glue is often seen as superior construction.
Go look at ferrules from cue parts suppliers. They are commonly available threaded on the inside for a threaded tenon.
The ones for a metal pin might not be available off the shelf anymore, but if you have an old Palmer that needs a ferrule, any good cue repair shop can drill and tap a solid ferrule then turn it to size.
