Papa Red said:I booked the Rivera in February as a non BCA and the rooms were $85, while everyone under the BCA was $105. Checked on-line last night the non-BCA is $69, so just look at the chart you presented is shows the hike in rates while the BCA is in town. The rates drop when we leave. The higher rate are the dates for teams. All they do is raise the rates and give the BCA a discount thats is still above the normal rate if the BCA is not in town. You be the judge.
When I did the search of the Riviera, I had also searched Circus Circus. I did notice the price increase during that time at the Riviera, but "CC" also had a price increase during that time. Hotels raise rates at certain times of the yr when they're most likely to get foot traffic. The BCA coincides with mothers day which could be one of the reasons.
"CC" has a special during April & May called the big top blow out which is why their prices are as cheap as they are. The following months (at the time) weren't as cheap as these two months.
Who knows, it could be as you say, or it could be the time of the yr in general. It's supposed to rain this wkend, maybe I'll spend a rainy day searching other hotels and see if their rates go up during those two weeks and back down afterwards, just to see. Here's the "CC" vs Riviera comparison I did last month.
I myself am staying at the Flamingo during the BCA and just renting a car which is about $100/week. .
The Riviera still has rooms availabel for most nights (I think). The rate is $85.00 per night (including the weekends) for up to 4 people.
I still think too many people are forgetting how much the Riviera has done for the pool industry over the years. When we took over the league in 2004, we contacted other facilities - they were at LEAST 50% higher. Few places have the ballroom space to hold the event.
If the pool players do not support the host hotel, then the hotel is liable to do fewer things for the host organization. Bottom line is that if our costs go up, the payouts will decrease or the costs will go up.
This thread has so much BAD info - some people make statements that have no factual basis - so please don't believe everything you read. I hope everyone has a good time in Vegas - and hope everyone wins a division (lol) - but do try to support those that support the industry.

PS - by the way - we are very close to 7,000 players. Last year we had 7,107. A total number of entries is over 10,000 or so.
You can barely see it from the Strip.

If you search for it on google maps, you can see it better.
I was out in March and if I remember correctly, this motel was being torn down at the time.
