Greatest cuemaker ever...........

Here is what they have to say in order of induction. They know far more than we do:
George Balabushka
Herman Rambow
Burton Spain
Ernie Guiterrez
Harvey Martin
Gus Szamboti
Frank Paradise
Eugene & Ilona Palmer
Dan Janes
Jerry Franklin

These inductions into the cue maker hall of fame were voted by there peers.

That list is a little dated. Bill Schick was inducted in 2007 and Richard Black this year.

I'm putting in my vote for Ernie. Given that so much of what makes a cue great is feel and feel is such a personal thing, hands down the Ginacue is the best cue I've ever put to cue ball.

Ok, my opinion...

I like: (for a mixture of playability AND looks)

Gus Szamboti
Andy Gilbert
Jerry Franklin (Southwest)
Kersenbrock
Rambow
Bill Stroud (Get him in the damn Hall of Fame!)
Dale Perry
Ernie G. (Ginacue)
Leonard Bloodsworth
Richard Phillipi
Paul Mottey

I've never been fortunate enough to hit with a Balabushka, or Paradise...etc. for i am sure they are great....but these guys have made cues that i LOVE to play with.

I dont believe anyone can do what Tony does with inlays and such. But construction, execution of and playabilty, I would say Cochran. His points, inlays, hit, look and anything else are just perfect. You just cant find a better playing cue out there. Just my .02.

Nobody has mentioned Hercek or Showman! I'm not sure either of them are the G.O.A.T., but sure they are worthy of mention! As for the greatest of all time, it would probably have to be the guy who made the very first actual pool cue, because without him, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I'm also hereing alot of good things about masonh, had one guy tell me that his masonh cue was "the best hitting cue he's ever owned," and he's been playing pool since the 70's! As for aesthetics, I will have to say that Tony @ Blackboar is right there at the top! Amazing work! To all of the cuemakers out there who put their heart and soul into it. I say thank you........All of you are true artists, and craftsmen!

Here, Here!! Well said.

My vote: Looks- Manzino
Playability- Mottey

That's quite a list... however

IMO Adding Dale Perry to that list of elite cue makers has got to be a joke (and pretty funny one at that :D) If he had stayed the course perhaps he would be considered a peer among these other guys. The stuff he was making a few years ago was pretty darn good. And the older ones (pre ebay blowout) were made very well and played good, but no where close to the others on your list

BTW no "s" in Bloodworth

A very enjoyable read and a lot of knowledgable contributors. I hope to expand my collection to some of the legends, my best players/lookers are
1) Balabushka-(stolen)
2) Andy Gilbert-current player
3) Old,old Palmer-retired
In speaking with Travis Trotter, he is mighty high on Cuetec.

The best

IMO YOU ALL HAVE GREAT IDEAS MINE IS [ RON HALEY ] HIS WORK IS OUTSTANDING AND PLAYABLETY IS AS FATS YOUST TO SAY UNBELEIVABLE...

I would have to go with all of the guys that were really innovative and I feel broke new ground in cue building. In no particular order.

Rambow
Martin
Ernie
DPK
Franklin

I also think that Jim McDermott needs to be mentioned. I would imagine that almost all cue collectors have owned a McD at some time and used it as a regular player. Great cues for the money. He may not be the "greatest" but his American company put a quality cue at a fair price in many a players hands.
