Manny Pacquiao Open at Hard Times

Winner's side: Oscar vs. Louie & Mark Haddad vs. Super Man Gomez.
Some Loser's: Parica vs. Santos. Red Riding Hoa vs. Morro...Geraraldo?

There is confusion about the payouts.

There is confusion about the payouts.

Apparently they were only going to pay out $6900 instead of the 10,000 that was "guaranteed". The Players refused to play until the full amount was guaranteed in some fashion.

I say good for that. If the players keep accepting the shabby treatment, they're gonna continue to get it.

Was Pacquiao there at the time? anyone know?

So players finally made a stand at payouts being not paid out as advertised.... at a benefit for a country rocked by tragedy?

Seems like a strange time to do that, considering all the other times they've been screwed and could have made a stand, you would think a benefit would be the last place they would make a stand, unless they were donating their winnings.

Parica's on the one loss still by beating the BCA Grand Master Champ Danny P. from the Valley. Parica was down 5-0 or so and came back to hill hill when Danny shot the 8 in the side before the 7...strange?
The grand master this year was won by a Canadian over SVB in final, are you meaning a different year. The winner was Simon Pickering fr BC

I have never understood the concept of a "benefit" pool tournament. The one tournament I played in that was a fundraiser ended up loosing money. Its really sad for the players. I gave up hope of pool ever being like golf, but at least it should be enough for guys to make some kind of living.

Oscar beat Ulrich on the winners side.
Roberto Gomez snapped the 9 in on Haddad 7 to 6.

The pros were having a tough time on those 4 inch pockets. I was there for 3 hours and maybe saw 4 break and runs.

I thought Pacquiao was given a charity event for pool players. Didnt know of the real charity aspect of it.

It was supposed to be 10k for first but all the players stopped playing today for about an hour trying to get the payouts correct.
I have never seen that in a tourny before.
A good thing IMO.

I think first ended up being 6k. Not sure about the others.

10K total purse as advertised. 1st - $3,000, 2nd - $1,500, 3rd - $1,000, 4th - $700, 5-6th - $500, 7-8th - $400, 9-12th - $300, 13-16th - $200.
Manny never made it there, possibly because planes were grounded in Manila yesterday. A spokesman for him said he sent his regrets and thanked everyone (players and fans) for coming.

Good going Gomez!

I love that Gomez. Y'all are so lucky to see him play in person. California seems to be rocking and rolling in pool, more and more lately.

Bravo to Gomez!

Mark Haddad called us last night and told us he'd be playing pool on the Internet. He was hoping we'd be able to watch him on the Internet. He and my partner speak on a daily basis about the lines of sporting events. They both seem to like sweating the games on TV. Mark was thrilled to bring his best game to the tournament this weekend. I am happy to read he got second place.

Good going, Mark! :clapping::clapping::clapping:

And a shout-out goes to Oscar, our Team USA representative in the Mosconi Cup. Keep up the good work, Oscar!

Manny is probably a very busy man. I have been reading a lot about him in recent times on another forum. I love the fact that he helped this tournament out to benefit charity. Tournaments like this are expensive to run. The TD has to get paid, and the host pool room loses money on table time, but, hopefully, they make it up with the spectators in other ways who attend the event.

$3,000 for first place and $10,000 total purse. I know there were other expenses too, as with every pool tournament.

Here's Pacman in action in Vegas, practicing. I hear he may be running for a governmental position in Philippines someday. I hope not. I like seeing him in the ring!

Jam speaking of the ring, I believe one of your favorites is coming up next sat. Tough fight to call.

You're correct - Danny Petralba won the Men Master Singles, not the Grand Master's. (He's a Grand Master now).
