Are there any good safety games?

I was just curious, are there any games/practice drills out there you can play that involves someone else that is safety play only? Like the first one to sell out or something lol.

Anybody practice like this? Maybe have 3 object balls on the table and the cueball. Put one main object ball on the table that you and your opponent have to shoot. The other balls are used as blockers, and the first one to sell out a shot loses.

Anybody got any good games like this let me know

There is a good percentage of safety and 2-way shot play in Einstein Nine. It will definitely elevate your safety shots to a new level.

I played a game that helped. I thought of it cause no one would play any traditional games...I started to learn about the safe game playing this.

One player plays bank any ball, and one plays nine ball. If you bank 5 in the pocket or bank the last ball in you win. The other player wins by traditional nine ball rules.

This is a pretty good way to learn kicks if you are the guy playing the nine ball. it is very hard to run out five banks every game so you will find yourself ducking quite a bit...this is where the learning D takes place.

To make this even harder play the banks in order...this is the hardest spot I ever tried to outrun.

I played with myself...

The following game: 2 balls on the table, one is a CB. play to a #of points, 100...200... you need to hit the other ball with the CB and you get a point for any rail you hit with the CB prior to contact with the OB.

Not exactly a 'safety' game, but great for kicking.

Yes, I did..

Yes, I did invent a game..
It's called "3 FAYO"
"3 Fouls And You're Out"
2 players.. so, Can make this into a tournament or gamble too.
I thought of this when I was really into 9 Ball.
I don't say much about it because I don't have money and someone would just knock-off the game and "I'm Out".
I thought it was the best safety game ever..
I got 1 game package but, never brought it out.

Anybody want to partner in this?? FATBOY... Partnership?

Just play 14.1

There's a lot of safety play in straight pool. That's one of the reasons why a lot of people consider it boring.

I put 2 QB's up on table, (one red dot and one measal ball) plus 1 # ball. Then I play 3-cushion billiard on the pool table. Good drill for position, safety, and carom shots. Johnnyt

I previously posted in this thread about a game called KANSAS invented by Jack Koehler. I'm not sure if the link works, so you may have to use the Wayback Machine's Internet Archive or something. It's called Koehler's AmaziNg Sit And Shoot I believe. The basic rules are that you play with 6 balls, someone breaks and the next two shots need to be safeties. After that, you try to make a ball while playing safe. Each ball spots after it is pocketed. First to 10 wins.

I played this with a friend a long time back. It basically came down to working balls off the spot line at the end.

I had two of my students who wanted to work on safety play. I just racked a 9-ball rack for them and told them the only way to win was to 3-foul your opponent. Since then, I have used this game on occasion with other students, or when just sparring with friends.

Try this: Scatter the one through nine out on the table. Do not try to pocket a ball, but rather play a safety on the one ball.
If you are successful, take the one off the table, and play safe on the duece. If you are successful, take it off and repeat with the three.
Continue this way until you're down to the nine-ball, and then shoot the nine-ball to a position on the table where your imaginary opponent would have a tough shot on it.
You will find that the safeties will become more difficult as the balls are taken off the table.
Also. Be creative. Look for carom safeties and tickies of the rail.

fd_colorado said a mouthful. Not only will Einstein nine quickly improve your safety game but it will also do the same for your opponets safety game. That means your kicking banking and jumping game will benifit. I think the game has a lot to offer players that are good to advanced players. The situations that come up in this game are very entertaining.

I play a nine ball game for safety play. You break and take ball in hand for the first shot.

Play the 1 ball safe
if opponent has no clear shot at it (hooked) then you score 1 point, if the opponent misses the kick, masse or whatever then you get another point for a maximum of 2.

Play to 21 points, If a ball falls then just use the next one. It's simple and fun.

Here's a game that makes you become much better at saftey play but is VERY difficult for an average player.
First player to pocket X amt of balls first wins.
Cue ball must carom off an object ball then strike/pocket another ball in the called pocket. Scratches do not subtract from your score.
Break a full rack of balls, all balls stay down, if a ball is made on the break, breaker shoots again.
This is a great tool for 9 ball because many times to get the run out you'll need to carom and kick a ball in off the carom to continue your run, good luck, my high run is 4 and 3's are Real difficult.
Basically, billiards, but your trying to pocket the called ball off the carom.
