Never playing 9-ball again!!!

Squuuuuuz me.....:-)
Texas Express lives....SPF=randyg

Oops, made the cardinal sin of using the word "Texas" in a not-so-flattering manner. :D "Don't worry, Randy, Texas is cool -- first, in fact... <drum roll>... behind New York." :p And, although Texas Express "lives," it's like being homeless -- living, yes, but not a great existence. :p

Humbly kidding on all points, of course. Back on topic, being honest, I've never been a fan of Texas Express rules -- especially when applied to a game that'd historically been a call ball/pocket game like 10-ball (even before WPA sanctioning).

I see folks "playing 10-ball" as they call it, and when I tongue-in-cheek ask them what they're playing, when they reply "10-ball, of course" -- I respond, "No you're not. You're playing 9-ball with an extra ball. Play the game correctly, not a 'you'll pry my texas express rules from my cold dead fingers' version."

Probably gonna get a lot of heat about this response, but hey, this is the way I feel about this particular great rotation game.

There is a whole section here on 14.1 continous pocket billiards. Tired of luck, play some straight pool.

Andy

Andy- with all due respect, straight pool has just as much luck in it as any other pool game. A good player can run more balls because he has more options. But you can scratch off the break; have unlucky collisions that leave nothing and get stuck with no shot and an open table. Yes, straight pool requires special skills to play it correctly. It does require exact positioning. But there is luck involved. Didn't I read about John Schmidt running 226 but the only reason he ran that many is he misses a shot but it somehow the cue ended up bouncing off the rack and sinking the ball in the pocket he called? Not sure if that was him or not, but my point was...that's luck. The better people play, the less luck there is.

they always say theres no luck in 14.1 ok.
here is a better game with no luck banks.
in 10 ball play call pocket and call safes.

Already started into 1-pocket, 14.1 is on the agenda as well.

i am sorry but playing 1 hole is like watching paint dry. and there's luck in there too. don't be fooled. there's luck, like shitty luck. when you hit a great shot to make you're 5th point and you're going to be set up for number 6 getting 9-6, and just then a funny roll, you don't get shape. you play a safe and your opponent tries a great shot, misses and leaves himself perfect shape on what would have been his next shot but it also leaves you squatdouche. in the end you loose 9-5 and luck had a lot to do with it. no game's perfect.
just for the record the above story is fictional and meant for demonstration purposes only. it in no way describes what happened to me a few weeks ago and caused me to loose some cash and i am in no way bitter about it:grin:

Switch to 10 ball

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm really frickin' tired of 9-ball. Rack your own, pattern runout, blah blah. This game can't be fixed IMHO, it's boring as hell and I no longer wish to play a game where luck decides more games than skill. I'm done with 9-ball & I encourage more people to do the same.:mad::mad:

It is amazing the difference makes by adding one more ball.

If you find 10 ball boring, try some 14.1 not much luck there. Well maybe a little.

10 ball, 10 ball, 10 ball.

Slop is for kids under 9 (or beautiful girls between 18 and 24).

Maybe you should head over to my place and play some on my table.

That will make you change your mind........

Edited to add......I agree and think that 10 ball should be the game of choice!

buy prettier paint then.......

I like 9 ball, i only have problems with the game if I'm playing weaker players w/much weight so they swing away at the whole world, especially on the BB. I rather play 9 ball old school rules, push out, balls spot etc.... I really like 10 ball, and also like to play some 12 ball at the house. But one pocket is far and away my favorite game to play overall.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that luck decides more than skill, although luck does happen to show up at the worst time, but I agree 110% that 9-ball is the most boring game there is. I don't know how people can actually enjoy playing it. Straight pool is where it's at.

I quit playing 9ball decades ago. But got 2 questions.

Who's lucky? The shooter that got a lay up after an otherwise botched shot, or the guy sitting in the chair when the shooter misses the lay up?

Watching 1 Hole is like watching paint dry. Playing 1 hole is entirely different.

3Cushion is the same way. I nod off every time, watching the game. Playing is a whole different story.

9 ball

If you are running racks one out of five thats pretty good.Change it up and work on the 3 foul rule, but most of all have fun. Discipline Dicipline!

You just need to make 9 ball more exciting, fine the biggest mussel bound player that plays 2 balls better then you then bet twice as much as you have in you pocket, believe me your game will come up a notch,by the way,say hello to the Hedgecocks for me, their family. Good luck with the game you choose & dedicate yourself to it.
