Brandon Shuff 4, Danny smith 2 (the truth)

I would like to take this thread in another direction and discuss what steps Brandon can take to restore his ability to play the sport that he loves in the premier tournament of the YEAR??????

1. I was thinking if he takes an ANGER MANAGEMENT course it may satisfy the Horseshoe Management & Diamond Management!!!

2. I was thinking a written letter of apology!!!

3. Maybe payment of a small fine!!!!

I ask this question because i BELIEVE in SECOND chances. Plus, you really have to think how much time and effort it takes to achieve this level of play. So, the question remains is there anything he can do to increase his chances of playing AGAIN?????

Sincerely,
Kid
Dynomite

i wonder did dennis smith play in the events at all? we know brandon did.
if dennis did just come for the action then the one that is getting hurt the most is brandon. imo
with that said brandon should tell the casino it is unfair in this way. that he is the only one getting punished.
if dennis did play in the events it changes, but not much. because i don't think dennis is a real threat to win in these events where as brandon could be a master. so unfair punishment imho.

I'm pretty sure you mean Danny Smith, from Brandon's original post.. Not sure, maybe they are the same person and Danny is just his nickname??

Don't become that guy who causes other people to think "pool halls are where all the losers and white trash hang out, I don't want my kids hanging out there." Don't be that ignorant sounding guy who walks around saying stuff like "yeah that kid was talking crazy shit so I fuċked him up."

You can grow up to be a person who has a little class, or you can be that guy on cops with his face blurred out, the kind of poor dumbass kid always walking around with a black eye asking to bum rides or smokes.

You're probably too young to believe it or listen, but you will get absolutely nothing out of fighting. You get a little misguided and stupid respect from buddies or on the forum but anyone who tells you "good job" on something like this doesn't know what the fuċk they're talking about. For one thing, you hit him first, you don't deserve any respect for that. But even if you didn't, if you can avoid fighting you keep a clean record, a good image, and you're not going to get anything broken. If you saw the hustler you know it's tough to shoot that way.

Even the best pool players in a world have a hard time making a living at it. I'm talking top twenty on the whole planet. If you manage just to make top 50 in the USA, you probably will still need a real job at some point in your life. That real job is going to be tough to come by with a record.

Being a professional and a decent human being needs to come first. Getting that kid to shut up is a distant second.

In a round about way, you're right, it does take a man to turn the other cheek and walk away from a confrontation. BUT, if a guy is hounding you for days being completely belligerent and aggressive, that is a menacing threat in my book and when faced with a menacing threat it's go time..... From everything I have heard about the situation Brandon did what he thought had to be done. I think it was way past "Getting that kid to shut up". In hindsight, maybe not the best decision he ever made but he made it and he's man enough to deal with the consequences.

Advice to Brandon..... Revenge is a dish best eaten cold.

I seriously doubt he gets banned for life. You're talking about a good guy who had a bad moment. He's not a puke and has excellent tableside ettiquette. He couldn't get a break against Efren and you would never have known he was losing by 10 games. I think Greg will be smart enough to ask around a little bit about Brandon and Danny before making a final decision. As for the casino, if Brandon changes his haircut they won't recognize him haha.

According to my sources........

Smith got banned from DCC for life and possibly other events.

Shuff is welcome back at the DCC.

Both were banned from The Horseshoe.

I agree with the letter and maybe an anger management class. It will show the casino some personal growth on Brandon's part.

that sounds fair except for the DCC being at the horseshoe conflicts with brandon being welcome back. unless the last part being banned from horseshoe was a temporary thing.

On the Side of Caution

When I was a kid, my dad told me to never start a fight and to always try to walk away. He also said that if a guy has "the look" in his eye and your gut tells you he ain't going to let you walk away, error on the side of caution and get the first lick in. The first punch is usually the decider.

To me it sounds like this guy wasn't going to let it go. He probably got what he deserved. That being said, there are always repercussions and you just have to take your medicine now. I'm sure it will be fine in the end.

I had the pleasure to meet Brandon Shuff in Galveston and found him to be a very impressive young man both on and off the table. He should have a great future and I hope that he does not suffer any long term consequences from this encounter.
You always will have my support Brandon.

Isn't the DCC held at the casino? That's like being banned from Fenway Park but welcome at Red Sox home games.

Oh great...this doesn't mean we have round 2 at Valley Forge to look forward to, does it?

Hope not.

Actually the pool tournament is not in the casino. It is in a convention area some distance from the casino (and the hotel). You can get to the tournament area without ever going near the casino or even the hotel.

By the way, Brandon did have every right to defend himself in that situation. If someone approaches you in a threatening manner (yelling, screaming, poking a finger in your face) that is already an "assault." It becomes "battery" when they actually strike you. When you are assaulted by someone you have the right to defend yourself. Brandon acted in self defense.

You don't have to wait for them to hit you to defend yourself, if you feel an imminent threat. The same applies if a person pulls out a knife and threatens you with it. You don't have to wait for him to stab you, to shoot him in self defense. This actual scenario has been tested in court on multiple occasions and ruled self defense.
