Best of luck Bud. I had my eye opener 2 years ago and really could give a shit less about pool anymore. Still, it's great game, but a game.
As for the One pocket at the DCC? Stop and think over the next 10 years, there will only be 10 winners.
Very few around the country even have the talent to win it. That doesn't mean the rest play so badly, they just play that well!

I discovered pool about 5 yrs ago now. It was a means of escape. A mental diversion from what was going on in my life at the time.
There is something theraputic about the perfection of spheres moving about on a perfect rectangle interacting with each other in a mathemetical dance that the mind struggles to comprehend. It is a great diversion to immerse oneself in.
Things in life work themselves out how they will. We have little control over what happens in life, and sometimes attempting to exert control makes metters worse. Life is full of unexpercted consequence. Pool is all about cause and effect.
I truely love the game, and hit balls nearly every day (28 out of 30 perhaps) After I discovered my love for the game, having a room in the house big enough to accomodate a table was a primary search criteria for the new house we just bought.
I have to say that the 7' Diamond pro/am I bought was the best money I have spent in years. I have owned it about a year and a half (got it at the 09 SBE) and it has easily paid for itself @ a dime a rack just for the time I have spent on it alone. Take into consideration the time it has been used by friends and family and the cost is probably a nickel a rack.
The only other thing that has brought me nothing but pleasure was a canoe I got for Xmas several yrs ago. Best present ever, but that's another thread.

Pool has been a big part of my life for nearly 30 years, since I was a pre-teen, playing with my grandfather.. Over the years I have been through spells where I played a ton and other times I have not played for a year or two at a time.. It just depends on what's going on with my life at the time..
2 years ago, I was diagnosed with cancerous tumors that I've had removed 4 times now during that time as well as radiation therapy.. That has given me a very fresh and real perspective on life and what's really important..
I still love to play, try to play my very best but I don't sweat it too much when things just don't go as planned.. I can have a great time competing whether I win or lose, I still prefer to win mind you! But other things are a much bigger priority for me such as family, friends, my relationship with God.. After that, not much really takes priority for me.. YMMV
The eye opening experiences that I've dealt with were and continue to be difficult but they have allowed me a new and welcome perspective on life.. Everyone handles it differently but for me, I don't regret anything that I've had or will face down the road.

Just got home from an MRI, and X-Rays, blew the entire day.:angry: Should get the reports of finding next week, and life will go on per schedule!:wink:
First off, I hope that the bomb that got dropped on you turns out to be a small fire cracker.

I'm very happy where life has taken me so far and I don't see anything happening to change the course drastically in the near future.
I don't need or covet fancy vehicles, clothes or jewelery. All I need is my trusty cue and a decent case.

paksat...just so you know, there are 1000's of people whose livelihood is connected to pool (I'm one of them), who are definitely NOT the top flight pros...and yes, pool is in the top five. Is pool the most important thing in my life? Nope...my marriage is. Fortunately my wife completely supports my obsession with pool.

For 15 years, pool was my life, at least the industry of billiards. And after 15 years of basically putting the company I worked for ahead of everything else that mattered, I was rewarded with a pink slip for my efforts. Ownership wanted to put his family first.
So while the industry of pool was my bread and butter, the game of pool was not, but unfortunately I am having trouble separating the two. Bitter feelings are impeding my once healthy zest for the game.
I guess I am one of the minority that ranks pool near the top of my list, but it is rapidly falling....

Well I got a call today, and am being referred to a specialist who specializes in Autoimmune Diseases, NEXT MONTH...Time to play a lot of Pool in the mean time!!!!
