Who Makes the Best Sneaky Petes

Not to hijack this thread, and I know there have been many discussions on this topic in the past, but why do full splice cues hit so well ? I have an ebony sneaky by Paul Dayton. It has a Moori Medium, and an ivory ferrule, a much better than average shaft (if not magnificent), a wood to wood joint with a phenolic collar and a radial pin. That cue hits stiff, but not like a thick old bar cue. Just the perfect amount of feedback. You couldn't pry it out of my hands with a crowbar ! I wouldn't take a $300 profit on the cue because I don't even know if Paul can make another that nice. Paul's taper is splendiferous ! I had a few custom rings so mine cost a little more than your budget allows, but I can't recommend Paul Dayton's cues playability enough...Tom

P.S. It hits better than my JossWest, Jensen, Hill, Rauenzahn, Dayton 4 pt cue, Olneys, Meucci, and Frey sneaky. How's that for testimony ?

Rick Howard is the best for a stiff hit.IMO

I agree, I have had several of Rick's sneaky pete's and lots of his playing cue's. His sneaky pete's play great, just like his customs cue's and have a nice stiff hit. I have had lot's of sneaky pete style cue's such as Madison Bob's, Tim Scruggs', Richard Harris', Meucci, Gilbert, Predator, Omega DPK, Jacoby, Joss, Shurtz, McDermott C-1's, Chad Carter's, Carolina, Southeast, Bob Fry, Leach, Woodworth, Schick, Fairchild, Doug Patrick, Deano, Paul Dayton, Olivier, Ned Morris, Prather, Ernie Martinez, Heubler and a few from local cue makers in surrounding area's and imo I like the Howard's and Scruggs' from experience.

I dont get some of these cues, with bright colors, a sp, is supposed to look just like a house cue, so the Mark wont know you are using a superior cue. And what happened to the really nice, solid, good playing sn for $150 to $200. :)

That's an obsolete viewpoint. True in the 50's and 60's but nowadays everyone has a cue. Your idea of a sneaky pete looking like you're "playing off the wall" has long gone. In fact often, the fancier the cue, the lesser the player.

Roger Petitt from Seattle makes a winner (I think he bought some old growth one-piece cues with the tight heart line decades ago and converts them to a two-piece sneaky pete with his magic touch).

Rich Geiler has been playing mighty sporty with one of Roger's for decades.

just fyi, if i were you and wanted to get my hands on one of his sneaky's, id go in and talk with him.... even if that meant having to come to LA from afar. with few exceptions he gets to hard times late afternoon and is normally there most of the night.

I agree... It would be worth the trip. He will size you up for a nice fit pretty quick. Great guy to work with too.

When I asked him his hours, he told me "11 to 11... every day." LOL

Bang on. I came to that conclusion a while ago.

All gear, no idea.

You are aware that no one falls for the true sneaky pete anymore, right? I live in the boonies, and still no one falls for them around here....might as well dress them up a bit.

Some folks just swear by the way a full splice cue plays.

Dz

Bob Dzuricky without a doubt should be in this circle, his cues are so well made and play sooo well...and he is an outstanding man to work with...and if you want more cue, i think he sells one of the best cues for the money...flawless work, craftsmanship, materials and cues play sweeeeet!!!! IMHO

Mike Lambros has the best playing sneaky petes. I think they're either 7 or 8 hundred--- but they play like they're 3000.

While that may be true some of us don't want to bring in a $4000 South West into the bar!. Thethiager some of us have a clue, used to play for Hal on one of the Airway teams against Jason and Gary.

Everyone I know sings the praises of the Player sneaky pete. I've been using a Huebler for years until the joint had to be resurfaced and collars installed to stop the splitting. Wood-to-wood with no collars isn't going to last, no matter how much you paid.

Am I missing something here? I saw no contact info for Al Romero from this link, only a few posts touting his cues.

Maniac
You fuggin Maniac!

They friggin detailed his life. Only thing missing is if he prefers to do his dumpies at home or in the pool room!
