What's the best hitting cue you've played with?

DIECKMAN of course.

Used to be Schon until I discovered Rauenzahn Custom Cues out of Warren, PA. I like the used cue (99%) I bought so much that I have Jerry building me a 1 of 1 Bushka tribute cue with an inlayed MOP nameplate. Now that'll be a keeper, just like I want it to be.

BLACK-BALLED

Are those butts or shafts?! I cannot tell!!!
_______

Thats funny. Truth be known we're calling them Porch Cues cause we designed them on his back porch late at night when we should have waited till the wine wore off.

My idea was a butterfly splice that can't be seen unless you look close. After thinking about it for a minute DD says "thats so weird I think I'll do it." 6 months later he sends these two to choose one. He plays with the other now.

But to your point they are butts, that weigh not much more as some shafts I've seen. So I understand the confusion. 13.5 and 14.? with shaft.

Rather than get hung up on cuemaker maybe you should consider trying different types of cues out. Wood to wood, steel jointed, LD shaft vs non, different balance points, different tapers, different weights. Alot of the hit differences in comparing cues could also come down to the tip and not the cue. I know that I dont like super hard tips myself and i find myself lacking confidence in their ability to hold chalk when i have to load it up to move whitey around.

After playing just under 30 years of pool, ive come to the conclusion that I prefer steel jointed cues that weigh around 19 to 19.5 oz with a ferrule that is around 12-12.5 mm. I also like a stiffer hitting cue. Falling under that specific type of cue, the best hitting ones ive owned were Szamboti, 60's/ early 70s Joss, Scruggs Titlist conversion. I just started trying out LD shafts but I find after two weeks of playing with them Im subject to missing any shot where I have to put english on the ball. I think that you can learn to play with either LD or no LD equally as well, but if your just learning the LD shaft might be easier for you to get a good handle on shots where there is alot of deflection involved. Like for example high inside to swing the cueball around three rails. That shot in particular from about 8 ft away is very difficult with my Szamboti but with a Predator Z2 bolted onto the gus I can hit the shot pretty reliably.

hit

I have a Dickie of RHN cues that hits like no other iv ever shot with. i know i paid under $700 to have it built, but it would take nearly $2000 to get it off me. even then id feel bad for letting it go. for the money and what you get he is hands down my fave builder.
as far as production cues iv had some old Joss cues from the 1970's that i liked.

I just got a Jack Madden and it is has the purest "hit" I have ever experienced.

I guess it is all kind of relative, different strokes for different folks...

Oh, boy, here we go again.
Write this down: THERE IS NO BEST PLAYING CUE, IT'S ALL SUBJECTIVE!
I'm a cue enthusiast, and currently own about 30 custom cues, but when I play, I only use simple Plane Janes or Sneakies. It's the feel and balance that counts not the inlays.

What is the best hitting cue you have played with? Looks are important to me, but won't make the shot, I am looking to gather information as to what the best "playing" cues available are.

Let's hear em!

The best playing cue I've ever played with is my own cue, a JossWest by Bill Stroud. I cycled through a dozen cues that matched my specs before I hit on this one. It is totally predictable and perfectly suited to my game.

If I ever lost this cue, I would fall into a dark depression and become completely unstable.

Pechauer Custom w/Ivory Joint

Best cue to date, Custom one of a kind Pechauer w/Ivory Flat Faced Joint, It is the first Ivory Joint ever made by Jerry Pechauer, 2-13mm shafts, 12.75mm and 12.50. I saw the cue once and it got away, I got my hands back on it a year and a half later and I had to have it the weight 19.4 the balance-----absolutely perfect. It feels like and 18 oz cue but drives the ball like a Mack Truck when you ask it to. I thought about selling it once and was offered my money but I havent had that feel with anything before and didnt. The best decision I have ever made for my game.

Rep to The Dragon - I just love "what is the best - threads" :

What is the best:
playing cue
break cue
jump cue
jump/break cue
^^ not to mention breaking them in price categories.
layered tip
non-layered tip

ibtl < oh that never happens to repetitive threads. Hey will someone post a newthread on "taking cue on plane"

Hueble Hustler

Tho I've played with many different cues, I always seem to gravitate back to my late 70's Huebler Hustler.

this question is like what girl did you let get away in youth or out of all the cars you have owned what one were you most fond of and why.
Not whats the greatest cue of all time that is the one size fits all cue for every human alive or dead. its just a simple recolection of fond old great hitting timber.
