Who are the 'Old Schoolers' of AZ

On the old AZBilliards before this format my name was "Irish". Some douche managed to snag it before I could register it on here and I had to settle for "Celtic". And it sucks because I got here pretty bloody quickly to get my old name. :(

Before this gets way sidetracked - I was thinking Old Schoolers of AZ not Old Schoolers of posting about pool on the Internet. Obviously anyone can feel free to post anything, just wanted to explain the reason I posted this thread and titled it as such.

There are still a lot of posters I would like to meet in person someday.

Thanks for all the Old Schoolers in joining in.

I'm posting to see when my join date was :).

Don't post so much anymore but read almost every day.

Not to worry, I'll call you Irish from now on. :)

Thanks for mentioning me in this list of old people Watchez. I don't know if I should be flattered or pissed.:) Just kidding of course.

Here is a snap shot of where it all started...from the way back machine.

It goes back to 1998....when AZBilliards actually stood for "Arizona Billiards"

http://replay.waybackmachine.org/19981212012729/http://azbilliards.com/

This is what the whole web site and forum looked like when Mike started it up.

Quite a change from the old software to the new format. I think it changed more than once. I was around well before the 2003 date that it last changed. Heck, I remember it use to be easy to play run out 9 ball on a 9 footer too! LOL

The AZ link shown has a link to a photo of my old partner of the Pool & Brew - Ken Eberhart with Bill Moore (RIP). Anyone that played pool in Arizona at the time remembers Bill.

One day Mike come to me with this crazy idea. He actually thought a Billiard Community on the internet would be a worthwhile venture. LOL
He talked about it for some time during a tournament as I recall. I don't think even Mike pictured what was to come. I don't post a lot but yes, I am an AZ Old School-er.

With this site being around now for quite the time and me being gone for a period of time, it appears to me that lately there has been more of an influx of new members actively posting than in the recent years. I used to read posts and threads and know most people involved. Now I don't know many of them.

Makes me think, who are the Old Schoolers of AZ -

Trigger, Blackjack, Cuaba, Fast N Loose, Fatboy (well only Fatboy1 not Fatboy2), Hangemhigh, JAM, JB Cases, JoeyA, Manwon, Ribdoner, Rossaroni, Williebetmore, Spidey, Houmatroy, Mikeyfrost, lfigueroa, Terry Ardeno, Corvette, JCIN, Jay Helfert, Saw, ME....I am sure there are a slew more but those are off the top of my head.

I joined before you did (yuk-yuk).

I've noticed an influx of active newbies myself. Good for them. Welcome all.

I miss the one too.

I joined in January of 2006, but i had lurked avidly for about 3 years or so. Its been a great time here and AZ has been a catalyst for me meeting some amazing people that I consider myself very fortunate to of met.

I always liked your old avatar. The one with the kid about to skateboard down a huge hill. You had the word Confidence or something listed as tag .

Thanks... Good memory. I kept that Avatar for years. In fact, I played my best pool then. I may pull it back out. I'm not superstitious or anything, tho...:)

Ghosst might be considered an old schooler. He is BAZ but doesn't post as much as he used to. Good guy though.

Hey Watchez, I kinda remember when you joined. Seems like you had a little tension with someone when you first joined. I remember there was another guy who joined about that time that I thought, for some reason, you may have known who got banned. I believe he owned a pool room or something. That was a looong time ago...:)

"Long time listener, first time caller" (I always wanted to say that somewhere)

I'm going on 52, been in love with the multi-colored spheres since I was
11 back in 1970-1971.

Collected a voluminous amount of info over the years on pool, it's tournaments & great players.

But I found AZB by accident. My kids kept telling me that I could find out lots of stuff about pool players on a thing called the internet.

"What exactly is this "internet" that you speak of?" They said that they could better "explain" it after they had a computer to show me on....I think it was 1998-1999 when we got our first computer.

I'll add several of the finest members on AZB to watchez's list...."Shooting Arts" aka Hu, "JoeyA" aka Joey Aguzin & SJM, aka Stu, "CueJoey", "JimmyG" I love a lot of the members here, but these guys really are top shelf members.

So many great people here. I'll kick myself later for forgetting to add whoever it is I'll remember that I left off.

***Note to JimmyLeggs...I'm very impressed that you remember 8Ball Bernie & "Walt Frazier". Wonder where they are nowadays....

Walt Frazier! What a character. :D:D

Smorgassbored is no longer around but he is not forgotten.

Good thread.

WOW! I used to have a cyber-crush on Laura Friedman if it's the gal I remember. Shhhhh!

So you wanna bring up crushes, huh Joey? :) Let's talk AZ...

I'll start... My first AZ crush was LandShark77... Never met her, and never talked forward in any way to her either... But something about that girl's attitude made my hair tingle...:D

I can't remember the last ime she posted.

Everytime I think I'm out, they pull me back in. :)

Walt's doing that hair dye commercial, and Bernie's undercover on da road.
